great place for concerts, barbecues, etc. Halloween they have Sloss Fright Furnace...a huge haunted house throughout the furnace! Lines are long but they play horror movies on a projector in the dark while you wait and have food and drinks available for purchase! Fun, fun, fun!

I greatly enjoyed my visit to the Sloss Furnaces, a very well curated self-guided tour to this abandoned steel blast furnace. It was a wonderful mixture of self-discovery and education as one could learn about how steel was made, and more about the people that made the factory work, and the often dangerous work that they did. The guidance was also very honest about the segregation of the workplace for much of its history, and offered an appreciation of an institution that employed so many people for the better part of a century. On the day of my visit a wedding was actually scheduled to take place there amidst the rusting heavy equipment, and in the morning light I did in fact detect a certain beauty to this monument to man's ingenuity, and the reflections it brought on of the impermanence of all human endeavor. Very worthwhile, clambering in tunnels and over the slag pipes of a fading industrial world.

OK so this is something I knew my husband would love and he did - old machinery and processes isn't my thing but he was impressed
