America's Best Inn Birmingham, Airport
Ranked #71 of 80 Hotels in Birmingham

On the way to Key West, FL via Southwest airlines out of the Birmingham, AL airport, we decided on this grim place due to price, as did others. Although it was August, it seemed like May Day with plenty of red flags flying. Indeed, like the Knight's Inn chain, the motel was a takeover of a defunct Holiday or Day's Inn, complete with a decaying and closed restaurant/lounge, and sad, albeit functional swimming pool. One could imagine the ghosts of a more well-heeled clientele en route to various destinations floating among the present poor souls relegated to living several to a room, or, I would imagine, that would suffer homelessness. Then there's the room, where one is greeted by a great swath of grime from the doorway, succeeded by stains of unknown origin completing an alarming circuit around the battered furniture. During a fitful attempt at sleep, the air conditioner put out a pitiful stream of coolish air, proportional only to the amount of humidity it released. Thus exhausted in the A.M., a reviving shower was denied by a completely dysfunctional faucet, which I took to be a dummy screwed to the shower wall. Hey, it's close to the Airport, and you can get a great fast-food ham sandwich at the nearby Hardee's, complemented by a fine beverage at the gas station!

Room Tip: Rooms at another joint probably your best bet...

The cheapest place around.

To me, it looks like another old Holiday Inn, based on the layout of the rooms. They say ‘truck parking,’ but it is just a big lot with lots of room. Nothing is ‘dedicated’ for trucks, tonight the place is almost empty (as is the Holiday Inn across the street), and there are some tight turns to get a rig in here without jumping the curbs.

The room itself seems clean enough, but there is a (usual sized) garbage can full of light bulbs in the room, plus trash and towels behind the door that didn’t get taken out from a prior guest.
Internet doesn’t work (I finally had a weak signal in the AM), AC did work.

The only food in the area is the Hardee’s next door and the KaBob House a block away. Same as last time in this area (Holiday Inn last time), no incident to prompt an uneasy feeling, but it’s not an area I’ll be taking a stroll in.

The company website says 'free breakfast,' could have been but I did not see it or see any signs that said there would be.

IMO this room and motel fit with others I have stayed at by this name, similar to America's Best Value Inns and the Knights Inn.

It would be nice if TripAdvisor had a way of flagging when a motel changes names, some of the old comments are still very relevant, others are not.

This hotel ranks right along side the Knights Inn, dirty linen, a blank I didn't even want to sit on and a non-smoking room with cigarette stains. This was a Days Inn which I assume had lost its flag, closing it is the only way to improve it.

I found hair remains in the shower, the tiled floor was slippery w/ grime, the plumbing could definitely use updates, & one of the bedspreads had a stain on top. I reserved the room w/o viewing by using Customer Service @ Delta Airlines. Great value, $64 but location, is awkward and parking is tight.

No amenities. No clock radio. No pen and paper. No kleenex. Pizza joint phone number on key card was for a location that doesn't service that area. The phone pad was from a Holiday Inn, so I couldn't even tell the pizza joint I finally found where I was or what the phone number was.
Service was rude. I felt like I interrupted her alone time.

I will never come close to this chain again.

Room Tip: Try a different motel.

This motel is the worst ive seen if you want bad service and a bad experience then this is the place to be the housekeeper angel is the worst house keeper in the history of bad housekeeping theres only one housekeeper that will clean the rooms correctly but she hardly there even the owners will cheat ou out of your money and lie about it they do not beleive in cleaning a stay over,s room unless they pay extra . recovering crackhead/room service ANGEL i believe to blame for this hotel roomservice to be so POOR and ran down, her whole shift consist's of holding a clip board and rinning back and vorth to and from the Shell gastation across the street buying beer & cig.s. hopefully management @ Americas best inn. will get it togeother!
