Rising International Zhonglian Hotel

This is an adequate hotel that I would rate at 3 stars. Arguably it has the best location in Dandong with perfect views across the friendship bridge to North Korea. The binoculars in the room are a quirky touch to enable you to have a good view across to the NK side. Dandong as a whole capitalises on its near location to the DPRK as a tourism draw card so this being the case you may as well stay in a hotel with a good location and a view. Rooms are ok, they are verging at being on the shabby side. Carpets need a good shampooing and probably replacing. Bathroom is also just ok but again needs some updating. Breakfast for me was not edible. It was a bad start when the milk curdled in the coffee and was complete when I noticed the bread for toasting had black marks on it. I presume it was mould. I left and went to a great coffee bar down the street called Peters. All in all an ok hotel for a night or two. Don't have high expectations and you won't be disappointed. Finally if you like your room hot you will love the room. Although it was about -4 outside, clothes were an optional extra inside the room it was so hot. Aircon was very difficult to regulate and as a final treat the in room safe did not work. Little English spoken or understood.

Room Tip: You need a room facing the river to see North Korea

This is just a purely wonderful hotel. Even though I'm a Platinum with the Crowne Plaza chain (IHG), I stayed here because I thought "hmm... I'm going to North Korea, let's stay at a hotel off the beaten path!" My tour guide suggested Zhonglian, and it was AWESOME! It feels like a home away from home, the people are so kind, and it's in a much better location than the Crowne Plaza! Our rooms had direct views of the bridges to North Korea!

If you are staying in Dandong, stay at Zhonglian! It is worth every penny!

Room Tip: Arrive earlier in the day and ask for a view of the Yalu River

Superb views over the two bridges to North Korea (get up early to visit the broken bridge when it opens at 0730 to avoid the crowds).
Great Chinese breakfast.
ATM machines in the lobby.
Good location for lots of nearby restaurants within easy walking distance and - especially important if you have just arrived from North Korea - a great coffee bar just up the street.
Free wifi works.

Other than that - perfectly adequate fairly large midrange hotel.
One other plus: The maid rang front desk to let them know I had left a necktie (deliberately, she thanked me for it) and an adapter (my mistake, I thanked her) on departure.

Relatively mediocre hotel, but for the fantastic view overlooking North Korea and the sino-korean friendship bridge. This in itself makes the hotel worth a night's board. Rooms are tidy and clean, and provide binoculars to look out onto the North Korean border guards. You can also watch the trains entering into China, and if you look closely you will see a few jaded travelers who have just been through a couple of hours of immigration inspection before being allowed to exit DPRK.
Make sure you close your curtains when it gets dark to avoid the many eyes that are no doubt trained on China from Korea!

Not your Starwood and IHG hotels definately, but surely the place that you want to stay in to soak in the view. Smacked rite infront of the broken and friendship bridges, this is a dream room for all professional & amatuer photographers.

I have stayed at this hotel several times primarily because it is close to family and offers a great view of the Friendship Bridge and N. Korea. The room even provides binoculars for a closer look of what's going on across the river. There is also a nice riverside park across the street from the hotel.

The staff is very friendly but the decor is dated and becoming a little shabby. The carpet is worn, the shower head slips down, the aerator on the faucet blows out of the tap, for example. Tea but no coffee in the rooms, so bring your own.

The breakfast buffet is excellent for China. Several local dishes are presented along with a good variety of foods Westerners like. The room rate includes one buffet ticket so a second must be purchased for 48 RMB.

The Wi-Fi was a little weak in my room, but it was adequate.

I was in this Hotel when I came back from a trip where I had for long time no Internet. So I was already pleased with the WIFI and the air-condition. Rooms are quite new, but you can see that they were not from the same quality like other 4 stars Hotels (like in Beijing of course). The location is perfect. Great views to North Korea and the boarder bridge. The staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are a bit to high for the quality of this Hotel but it's still the location is perfect.
