Owner description: Shuhe is a small village a couple miles to the north of Lijiang, in Yunnan province. It has similar old architecture as Lijiang with similar places to buy Naxi woven cloth and products from local artisans. A major advantage over Lijiang is that it is relatively unknown so the streets are much less crowded and food and lodging is cheaper. In addition to woven goods, there are stores selling wood carvings, Naxi style pottery and silver filigree jewelry. There was an elderly artist whose paintings were all done with the edge of his thumb producing quite astonishing images.

“Lovely old village”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

As lijiang have 3 villages around I think Shuhe is the best village to walk around. Lotsa cafe and pretty restaurants around and it's less crowded than the old village . I highly recommend tourists to stay here instead of other places.

“nice to walk around”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Nice area (everything a bit expensive though) to walk around, sit for a coffee here or there and watch tons of chinese taking pictures of themselves. :)

“Little Brother of Lijiang Old Town”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

I prefer to stay in Old Town of Shuhe (束河古镇). Shu He is four kilometres to the northwest of the Lijiang Old Town. Away from the busy, touristic Lijiang Dayan Old town, it is more relaxing and peaceful for me.

It is approximately 15-20 minutes taxi ride from Lijiang Dayan Old Town and cost RMB40 for 1 way.

May it be Lijiang Dayan Old Town or the Old Town of Shu He; I would recommend one to stay in a local courtyard style B&B, to fully immerse in the ancient Lijiang Old Town culture.

“Beautiful Ancient Town.”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

It is very relaxing walking around this old ancient town. It is not so crowded compare to Lijiang old town. The old charm is still intact.
People are friendly too.

“Shuhe Ancient Town”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

Shuhe, while influenced by the effects of tourism, conveys a more genteel atmosphere than its larger neighbor, Lijiang Ancient Town. The presence of a French boulangerie and the sounds of mid afternoon live jazz vocals may seem a little incongruous but speak volumes for a small town that promises to be different - let's hope it remains that way. Both are rewarding to visit although Shuhe, being smaller is a more manageable town and offers a more peaceful experience as one discovers hidden gems of streams and waterways where some great looking little restaurants are located. Slow paced, cool, relaxed.
