“Our Second stay at Villa Andro.......”
Reviewed 16 May 2011

Our 2nd visit to Villa Andro in seven months. The hosts Andrusko and Tanja are very warm and friendly people and they are extremely helpful. We were again made to feel at home. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is well-equipped. The gardens are immaculately kept and there are several areas to sit and relax whilst enjoying a drink, coffee or a piece of Tanja’s delicious homemade cake! We feel Villa Andro offers some of the best views over the charming and unspoiled village of Cavtat, which itself is a real gem. It is layered in history and its pretty picture-postcard views make you want to return again and again.

We enjoyed many a walk around the bays of Cavtat. The waters of the Adriatic are transparent and they are ideal for swimming - although not before June unless you are very brave!

With Cavtat being situated on the coast the restaurants serve a variety of fresh fish as well as tasty meat dishes. Our favourites were Ivan, Konola and the slightly more expensive restaurant Leut. Most local people speak very good English and so communication is never a problem.

We took a trip with a local driver to Montenegro which was very interesting. The towns of Kotor and Budva are well worth a visit. A coach also runs the same trip.

The people of Cavtat are so welcoming that we feel as though we left behind many friends.....

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Andro - and would highly recommend it. Andrusko was an amazing host. He really went above and beyond. From the moment we arrived, he and his family made us feel welcome. Every day he presented us a plateful of fresh figs - basically handed over as he picked them from the tree in the yard. One day we weren't there when he picked and there was a plateful waiting for us upon our return! And, when he found out about our love of wine, he gave us a bottle to enjoy on the balcony. We tried to entice him to share a glass with us but he insisted that we keep it for ourselves.

We spent every evening on our balcony, with a glass of wine, watching the sunset. It was so lovely. And, on Saturday night, we had a view of the Water Polo match, which seemed to be a highlight of the week! :)

You really couldn't ask for a better location in Cavtat- steps from the beautiful Cavtat waterfront, with restaurants, grocery store, bakery and, of course, the fabulous sea. While you can't really say there is a lot of variety in the Cavtat restaurant menu, the food was mostly good. And, given we visited during peak tourist season in August, we loved being outside of Dubrovnik (it was very crowded during the day). It was an easy 20 min drive (or hour boat ride). Cavtat is also very close to Montenegro - we had a great day trip to Kotor (highly recommend it!). The only delays were fairly long waits at the border (1 hr coming and going). We still made it back in time to sit on our balcony with a glass of wine and watch the sunset!

The room itself was clean, simple and functional. As well, we had our own bathroom but it was not ensuite. There was air conditioning in the room, which came in handy on hot August evenings. We happily chose the amazing location and service over 5-star luxury - the value for money is unbelievable.

One tip - keep to local specialities at the restaurants. My husband did get food poisoning from eating turkey at one of the restaurants (made for a very rough trip home) - restaurant Galileo.

Was a delightful surprise and felt so spoiled with the sea lapping outside the bedroom windows. This is a hidden gem and peaceful spot to retreat to at night or in the afternoon for a siesta.

We came from New Zealand with high expectations after reading so many wonderful reviews. We were not disappointed. Villa Andro is a few meters away from the sea, in a lovely shady garden, and Andrusko and Tanya greeted us with the most lovely coffee, almonds and his own plum brandy. They are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The room we had was on the top floor, clean and spacious and the view from the window is spectacular. We had our own bathroom and shared a kitchen with a very nice English couple who were able to give us the benefit of their recently gained local knowlege - they were great fun.

Cavtat is small and quite beautiful and in no time you feel as though you know almost everyone. The bakery, fruit market and mini-supermarket are just meters away from Villa Andro, and there are a few lovely little shops that are worth more than one visit.

Most evenings we sat on the terrace with a glass of wine watching the sun go down before wandering along the waterfront to eat at one of the many very good restaurants. Dubrovnik is a forty minute boat trip away and is a beautiful historic city with so much to see and do, but we did appreciate being able to leave the crowds and come back to the tranquility and friendliness of Cavtat.

There are some lovely walks around the two peninsulas and the Mausoleum is well worth a visit as is the excellent fish restaurant nearby.

Villa Andro was a terrific find for us - a perfect location, and Andrusko and his family could not have been kinder. We hated leaving after a perfect week and I hope very much to be able to go again sometime.

Nice clean basic apartments on the water front with great views. It is convenient to everything in the town and the owners, Andrusko and Tanja, are very welcoming and conscientious about ensuring a wonderful experience. Easy to get to/from airport and Dubrovnik. Highly recommend for a few days or longer vacation stay.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the charming Villa Andro. It is perfectly located in the beautiful small town of Cavtat close to the waters edge with views from the balcony of the sunsets across the bay. It is close too to the restaurants, shops and all amenities. The Villa is clean and bright and well equipped. Andrusko and Tanja the owners were very welcoming, and kind and helpful when we needed advice.

We (me, my husband, daughter and son-in-law) stayed her for 8 days at the end of August. It was everything previous reviewers have said and lived up to our high expectations.
Andro and his lovely family are welcoming, helpful and very obliging, they are (with good reason) very proud of their home and Cavtat. The rooms are basic, spotlessly clean and if theres anything you need you only have to ask and its provided. We stayed on the lower floor which has 3 bedrooms (the back one was used as a sitting room during our stay), 2 bathrooms and a large kitchen. The two front bedrooms have a shared balcony with stunning views over the harbour. The bathrooms have showers over the bath and a washing machine.
The house is a few steps (through the charming green gate) to the habour which is stunning. There are a good choice of places to eat and drink and a range of prices. We found the bakery to be good value for bread and pastries for the day and we had our favourite places for the evenings. Poseiden just outside Villa Andro was excellent value for money and the staff looked after us like family. Buffet Atlas further along the quay served delicious pasta and pizza and converted my husband who has never eaten it before, again the staff though extremely busy worked hard to make us welcome especially the owners daughter who often stopped to chat when we bumped into her around the resort.
Cavtat is charming, quiet and gentle with Dubrovnik in the distance across the bay. The small gallery is well worth a visit and again the staff there were very keen to show us around and proud of their culture and heritage. There are lovely walks around the peninsular and rocky coves to swim from. The water is crystal clear and there was always plenty of space for everyone.
The coast around Dubrovnik is beautiful and dotted with islands (we stayed on Kolocep last year). The people are welcoming, proud and extremely helpful. The cost of eating out is reasonable you can find good quality food for just less than in the UK. We felt safe and never felt like we were being ripped off.

Would we recommend it? Definately yes. Would we go back? Tomorrow
Would I do anything different? We would stay in the upper apartment as although there were more stairs, the bathrooms were more modern with walk in showers. I would also take Euros with me to pay Andro as he does not the facility to take credit cards. It would avoid having to make several visits to the cash dispenser and then convert the kunas.

Thank you so much Andro and your family for your hospitality and the figs!! We know you will read this as you are so determined to make everyones stay as comfortable as possible. We hope to return soon. HVALA
