“Love it!”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

Spent a week staying here whilst we explored the stunningly beautiful area of southern Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro. The hotel was fabulous: Ultra clean and modern; very helpful and friendly staff; delicious food of all kinds and for all tastes, and in a breathtaking location! We could not fault it! The pool was wonderful too, especially in the evenings when it was lit up.

Ignore any negative comments! If you enjoy a variety of good food, a warm welcome and majestic sea views from your room (we saw a dolphin cross the bay the first morning), a modern and stylish feel, you will love it here too! We would definitely return!

Tip: Hire a car from the airport where you can drop it off on your return - it was a God-send believe me! Knock them down to £5 insurance a day for fully comprehensive cover! They check over the car very thoroughly on your return - it's worth it!!

Room Tip: Floor 4 or above for a fabulous sea view! Hire a car to visit Dubrovnik, Mostar (Bosnia) and bay o...

My fianceé and I stayed here for a week this October, we had a fantastic time and would not hesitate to come back, in fact I think we probably will some time soon!

We arrived by taxi from the airport at the hotel, just as the sun was setting. This really gave the Hotel a great appearance and was a very good first impression. We were greeted by a friendly staff member who opened the car doors for us and welcomed us inside and took our bags.

We checked in I asked if we could have a room with a sea view, as we had accidentally booked one of the park view rooms. The check in staff member said there were no proper sea view rooms available but did move us to one of the rooms on the 4th floor with a nice view of the sea / wooded area, so no complaints there!

The room itself was really very nice, comfortable huge bed, lovely bathroom with a shower that I still miss! Towels were changed daily and our bedsheets were changed numerous times throughout our stay, our room was always kept spotlessly clean too.

Other people have noted that the rooms can lack certain things, ie kettle / iron / ashtray, everything we asked for was very quickly brought up to the room, so once again no complaints there.

In general the food at the hotel was ok, I imagine it can be quite difficult to cater to so many people during busy periods. So whilst it wasn't exactly five star quality, the food was varied enough that we ate our breakfast and dinner there most days as we were half board.

I got up on the first morning at something like 6am and took a nice jog / walk around the peninsula, down into the bay and then around the forest area surrounded by trees over the cliffs. A lovely way to spend the morning, gave me a good chance to check out the bay a bit more!

The pools are really nice, the outdoor one was very cold but with it not being heated that is hard to avoid, I didn't quite realise how cold it was until I dived in and wished I hadn't!
Lots of sunbeds around the pool both indoor and out, we did a lot of sunbathing in our down time and we were always comfortable and relaxed.

We ate at the alverde restaurant by the swimming pool one lunch time, and the food was very nice, prices are quite high at the hotel for food and drinks so we just limited ourselves to one drink per meal and ventured down into the bay the rest of the time.

We found a lovely little spot behind the hotel, down by the water under the cliffs which we visited daily and swam, as well as swimming and sunbathing down near the Spinaker restaurant area. The restaurant, as was the nightclub, unfortunately closed but the holiday was out of season so it isn't really something we would hold against the hotel.

We did various activities around cavtat itself, as well as visiting Dubrovnik and walking the walls, an amazing experience and very good for the cardio!

My favourite day was when we rented a boat for 4 hours and just cruised around all the local islands, including supertat where we found a closed ( again, out of season ) "party island" which was completely empty other than an extremely friendly old lady who was tending to the garden who gave us a drink each.

Lots of snorkling and swimming, even managed to rescue an american lady who had dropped her sunglasses into the water in cavtat bay underneath a yacht, by diving down to retrieve them for her.

Prices in the local bars and restaurants were much lower than in the hotel itself, and the food was of a really good standard in general in the restaurants.

One thing i'm noticing with some of the reviews on here is that Croatian staff of the hotel / local bars and restaurants were not particularly friendly. We found that if you initiated conversation with them, they were more than friendly and we became quite close to some of the staff around the place just by talking to them on a daily basis and trying to make what is essentially their work day, more pleasant.

In general, we really adored Cavtat and will definitely be back, and we will definitely stay in this Hotel again, as long as they promise us a penthouse! :P

Wonderful trip.

Room Tip: Try and avoid parkside rooms, no view at all!

We have just a experienced a lovely stay from beginning to end at The Hotel Croatia (last week of October). Prior to arrival we contacted the hotel and made a few requests which were all met.
When we arrived at the airport the car transfer organised via the hotel was waiting for us, we arrived at the hotel in 10 mins! Our check in took seconds and we were welcomed and advised about dinner which was still being served at 9pm. We were upgraded to a 5th floor room with stunning sea and island views. The room was very clean and had plenty of toiletries and towels topped up every day and was very comfortable.
Our dinner was excellent with a wide range of hot and cold options, plenty of cakes and fresh fruits. The breakfast also had a wide range of options including fresh bread, omelettes made to order, fruit etc.
The indoor pool and spa area was excellent, very clean.
To sum up, I could not fault this hotel, everything was dealt with in an efficient manner, the entire hotel was so well looked after. We had a great stay!

This is one of the most amazing hotels in Cavtat.
* Walking distance to the bus stop (if you coming from Airport or Dubrovnik)
* Walking distance to all restaurants and shops
* Sea view rooms have amazing views - something to die for
* love their pool side cafe & massage center
* they pack you a lunch box if are going to miss breakfast due to early flight. They were sweet enough to bring my morning coffee to room & not charge for it (since I missed breakfast & coffee)

Room Tip: Ocean view room is expensive but totally worth the penny. I used Orbitz discount code and Orbitz rew...

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 4 nights in October.

Cavtat itself is a lovely little village, and Dubrovnik is about a 45 minute (enjoyable) boat ride away. We also travelled to Lokrum island which was beautiful.

I could make this a super long review about the hotel itself but I'm going to shorten it down:

Pros

- Check in was lovely, we told our request was met for a room on a high floor and the lovely lady at reception added "A beautiful room for the beautiful people!" Very nice touch!

- Choice of breakfast foods - so much to choose from and all very tasty.

- Location - stunning views from room 619

- Cleanliness of the hotel - Room was maintained every day and all facilities in the hotel were spotless

- Spa was lovely and staff there very helpful. Pool is fabulous!

- Steakhouse was AMAZING. Service and food was impeccable.

- I loved the shower in the room!

- Beds were insanely comfortable

- The bathroom toiletries were so pretty!

- Piano bar was a nice place to relax at night with lovely piano music being played, although the drinks were extremely pricey. Staff were always lovely and welcoming.

Cons

- Attitude of most male staff members was very snotty and dismissive (apart from who I assume was the manager, smiled and said hello whenever we saw him and one male desk clerk) and didn't bother to even smile. We also requested a buggy to the end of the hill on our last night and were met with a look from one male desk clerk as if to say "Really?". Very unprofessional and off-putting.

- Hotel itself is massive, very easy to get lost/not be able to find what you're looking for.

- Room service for breakfast was a disaster. This was by far the worst part. I left the card outside our room on two nights before 11pm (it says to leave it out by 3am the latest), and neither night was it collected, despite calling reception each morning to inform them. They couldn't give me a reason as to why this happened.

- The Alverde Buffet restaurant at dinner time was not appetizing or cheap. €26 each for re-heated food. Go down to Cavtat instead!

- Checkout could have been more focused on how our stay was and wishing us a safe trip home rather than just on settling the bill!

All in all, I would stay here again, even just for the views and location alone!

Room Tip: Pay extra from a room with a sea view, it really does make a difference!

Cavtat is a wonderful bay location and the Hotel Croatia is a 5 * hotel built on the rock side. Very large, spacious hotel with all the amenities one would expect from this category. Our room was on the 9th floor, garden side, although very pleasant, if possible pay the extra for a sea view, which is spectacular. All staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, food very good although self-service and more canteen style rather than 5 *. Overall rated and would return.
Note not suitable for people with limited mobility due to rock side location.

Room Tip: Use the free buggy service to the harbour whenever possible.

We stayed for 11 nights , fabulous room on 6th floor with sea view which we highly recommend , the room was very roomy and quiet, cleaned each day to a high standard by the lovely Maria who was a lovely lady. The hotel was spacious with several eating area's the main restaurant being adequate but if we return we would have BB because there were some lovely restaurants in Cavtat , we did visit the bars which were very nice and friendly,
Loved Cavtat would definitely return also would stay at the Hotel Croatia. So easy to get to Dubrovnik and other places by boat or local bus, boat being the better option plus there are some lovely walks around Cavtat with lots of watering holes enroute !
Would recommend this Hotel we found the staff in each area very friendly , fabulous holiday, loved it .

Room Tip: Sea facing room, we were on the 6th floor , fantastic,
