“Great location and views”
Reviewed 4 August 2014 via mobile

This hotel is stunning, the photo in the brochure did not do it justice, the reception is very nice, modern and clean. If your fit and healthy it's it better as there are approx 100 steps down to Cavtat itself. It's takes about 6 minutes down and a few more back up!

There was a variety of food, we were half board some a bit bland but always a steady supply. Most of the staff in the restaurant were very nice. I would go back to this hotel.

The rooms were kept very clean thanks to the good work of the domestic staff.

Returned 3 weeks ago from our 11th visit to Cavtat and Hotel Croatia. From the minute you enter the large impressive reception area and are greeted by the attentive and helpful staff you just know you will have a great holiday. You will be taken to your room by one of the brilliant bell-hop men who also do a great job taking you down into Cavtat and will pick you up later. Rooms, especially the sea view rooms, are large and very clean. The views from your terrace are amazing. Beds are so comfy and bed linen is changed at least twice a week. There is plenty of wardrobe space. The bathrooms are big and the showers are brilliant. The toiletries are topped up daily and the towels, bath, hand and flannels are big and fluffy. The cleaning ladies are so lovely and you even have a visit, (usually when you are having your evening meal) from them to top up towels etc that have been used. Breakfast and evening meals taken on the terrace with the lovely views of the bay is a must. The food is very good and there is so much choice. There is something for everyone and although it is buffet style, everything is fresh and is constantly attended to by the staff. Fruit, fish, salads, meat and vegetables, pasta etc. The staff are lovely and a smile and a thank you from us goes a long way! The piano bar is a place to go at any time of day but a pre dinner glass of house white, overlooking the most beautiful harbour is a must. That is magical. The pools are lovely and have full sun and shaded areas. The pool boys are on hand to help out if sun loungers get scarce. The rocky sun terrace overlooking the sea is brilliant and once again the boys are on hand to help with loungers etc. All the staff are lovely people, from reception, bell-hop, cleaners, Ana and Lucy and the rest of the restaurant staff, pool boys and a big mention for Ana and Jele and staff in piano bar. Cavtat is so beautiful with its little churches, one at each end of the bay, the fantastic yachts and the lovely bars and restaurants. Food and local wine in all of them is excellent, especially Poseidon Cafe which is right on the water. What a view! It's a really laid back bay where you just sit either day or night and watch the world go by. Sunset standing on the bay is out of this world. Dubrovnik is well worth a visit and you can travel there either by water taxi or bus, both prices very reasonable. So many people like us love this hotel and it's fantastic position with amazing views from all areas. There is just not one thing I can say against this hotel and it's lovely staff. Will we be back next year, oh I think it's a must.

Room Tip: Paying the extra for a sea view is well worth it. Floor 5 up have great views.

(couple aged 28) stunning surroundings. great facilities we used the poool and sauna lots. .theres many of private spots along the coast to enjoy the veiws and a dip in the sea. we only had bed n breakfast . which was of high standard and a big choice. cavtat itself had lots of lovely restaurants to choose from so being b &b wasnt an issue . We took the boat to dubrovnik from the bay so the location was perfect ! we paid extra for the sea view room . every bit worth it. and staff were very helpful x no complaints.

Stayed at the Hotel from 22nd July for a week.
Some good points and some negative ones
When we arrived we asked about availability of a sea view room, and advised that if we wanted one it would be an extra 30euro per night. We decided to see the room allocated first and then make a decision. When we went to the room it was a twin bedded one, which as a couple we did not want. We went back to reception who stated the hotel was full and that it would be perfectly acceptable to push the two beds together, and that would be arranged immediately. We objected and said no that’s was not acceptable and for a double room to be provided as expected, again we were told the hotel was full, which was not the case as we had previously been offered a sea facing room. Anyway it got sorted and we got access to the new room after about 30 minutes, but not the service and offering you would expect from a 5 star hotel.
The location of the hotel is good and bad, the views it offers are magnificent, but it is a steep climb up and down to the beach and the town, though there is a buggy service that runs on a frequent basis.
The lifts in the hotel are wholly inadequate for the size of the hotel, with them stopping on every floor for people with disappointed looks not being able to get in them.
Breakfast is good, loads of choice though it does get busy after 9.30 with long queues for omelettes, on one day they opened up and additional counter with another chef and this helped massively, so not sure why it is not done on a regular basis
The bedrooms are a good standard, good toiletries and towels, though you are left with just one small sample of each product to service 2 people, which do not stretch to a morning shower as well.
The hotel staff are very polite and welcoming, just not a great experience at the start
The beach area is good and well catered for. One of the massive problems is the pool area. There is a sign stating that if people don’t use the beds for more than 30 minutes the towels would be removed. This did not happen and because of it people were often wandering around without anywhere to sit down on. Whilst I know it’s selfish of the people to do this, if you do say it would be policed it should be. We seen numerous examples of people coming down in the morning, reserving beds and then going off again, one bed was not in use for excess of 5 hours whilst two ladies shared one bed.
Only 3 K from the airport so whilst you do get some aircraft noise, its minimal and not a problem.
Cavtat is a lovely place to stay; good food is served in many places, including the hotel. It’s well worth a visit and for despite some of my observations I would stay at the hotel again

PS Wifi access is terrible the main place to get access appears to be the lobby, everywhere else cant get onto the network or just locks up

I have just returned from a second visit to hotel Croatia at Cavtat and experienced the same high standards and spectacular views over Cavtat bay.

As mentioned in most reviews the hotel is maintained to a very high standard in all areas. There always appears to be plenty of space given the many pool and terrace areas, so the hotel does not appear crowded.

Good to see this year that there were more evening entertainment events at the Spinnaker bar with a mix of singers and jazz music.

It was also good to see that this year the hotel has added tea and coffee making facilities to the rooms, a nice convenience touch.

Staff, food and room were all excellent.

One point where there could be some improvement is with wifi and connection speeds. Whilst this may not be important to
everyone in today's connected world there is an increased reliance on Internet access for both personal, social and work. Whilst adequate for basic email the speeds are very low (0.1 - 0.4mb) and wifi signal can fade in some areas. With the availability of cheap satellite access the speed element could be addressed even if local cable connections are limited.

A minor point, but standards and expectations are changing and this would be a worthwhile improvement

Looking forward to my next visit!

This hotel is a strange place. I would describe it as Twin Peaks meets The Shining. The Twin Peaks theme tune "Falling" was actually played over the hotel sound system one day whilst we were out by the pool: it was a precious moment.

The location is stunning with views of Cavtat and the parts of the hotel that have been recently renovated or installed (such as the spa, the indoor pool) are up to standard. However it is very easy to stumble into across less well-maintained and older parts of the hotel which are, to be be perfectly honest, just eerie (hence the Twin Peaks/The Shining comment). Despite this it is a decent place to stay if you're looking for some relaxation and beautiful scenery. Our room was a fair size and the shower was good. We didn't pay for a sea view but having peeped into rooms on that side of the hotel when they were being cleaned we wished we had.

We stayed in July 2014 and booked with Jet2, our first package holiday experience. Hotel Croatia was listed as 5*. It isn't a 5* hotel, it's a decent 4*. The food isn't 5*, although it isn't bad, and nor is the service. Some staff were excellent and attentive, whilst others were actually rude. There wasn't much consistency! The hotel is missing all the extras and attention to detail which make a 5* hotel. Compare it with an Asian or Middle Eastern 5* and it doesn't stand a chance. Drinks in the hotel are, however, 5*, by which I mean they are absolutely extortionately priced. There is also nowhere to buy water, other than at the hugely overpriced bars, so I recommend going to the small supermarket in Cavtat and stocking up.

The steakhouse is worth a visit. Breakfast was okay although it could be tricky to get a hot drink depending on which staff were working near your table and once things ran out they tended not to be refilled after about 9.30am. Dinner was also okay with a fair amount of choice and variation.

Stayed in the hotel in july, room 516 absolutely stunning views. Room very clean, bathroom superb and wi-fi worked in room. Ate in the steakhouse one night and food and service brilliant.Did not find the hotel prices too bad at all unlike previous reviewers, top notch dining for around seventy quid for two courses ,coffee and wine for two in my eyes very reasonable.Three quid for a beer or glass of wine also good. Where the hotel falls down slightly in my opinion is the lack of any tea and coffee making facilities and the limited english tv channels. For so little outlay this hotel could be exceptional. Cavtat town could be the nicest resort my wife and i have visited. Great restaurants and bars in the most beautiful harbour with prices half of what you would normally pay in Spain or Portugal. All in all a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Must pay for a sea view room
