On a recent tour in Croatia we toured this monastery on Hvar. There were some interesting art work as well as relics, chalices etc. However the highlight of the tour was the beautiful painting of the Last Supper which covered one whole wall. The story behind this painting was very interesting. It seems it was done by a grateful artist who was rescued by the Franciscans. He was deathly ill and they took him in and helped him recover his health. He showed his gratitude by painting this amazing picture. As often happens the end of the tour brought us to the gift shop. Actually there were some lovely items made by the nuns using pressed flowers from their garden. The order of nuns who are there have pledged their lives into the care of all the museum treasures. This was an interesting stop on a very beautiful island.

Visited the monastery twice during the same day. The other visit in the evening during a classic concert that took place inside the building under open sky. Great atmosphere.

We arrived at the monastery after a walking tour of the old part of the town. We walked along the harbor seaside path to the monastery, enjoying the color of the water in front of the monastery. We were not able to see the museum, it was closed when we arrived, not sure if the reason was we were off high season, but the door to the cloister was open and we were able to see it, the cloister and the grounds in front of the monastery so peaceful, so lovely. There is a beautiful statue of Saint Francis (I believe) in the grounds in front of the monastery. For sure one of the nicest locations to visit in Hvar
