“Great base for a great place”

I felt I needed to write this review after reading some not so great ones. I really had a great experience at the amfora. We were impressed from the moment we walked in to the moment we left.
The hotel was very clean, all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the pool area was lovely for a day in the sun in between walking to the main marina.
Not many hotels in hvar have a pool and this hotel is perfectly located for a short 5 /10 minute walk along the coast to the square of restaurants and bars and where all the boats dock.

My only slight complaint was that the hot breakfast items were always slightly cold, other than that could not fault this hotel.

Of all the places we stayed in Croatia I was probably looking forward to this one the most. In the end it was just fine. Room was clean and comfortable albeit a little on the small side. I regretted somewhat not booking a sea view room as the view from the other side is a little disappointing. Pool area is a nice place to chill out. Breakfast was good. There were a couple of service issues. Firstly when they delivered our bags from the ferry port, one bag wasn't delivered, I found it later outside the hotel. Secondly I was given incorrect ferry times by reception for our onward journey, luckily I checked this independently later. Good location just outside the town.

We had a huge issue with the sliding glass doors on the balcony -- we got locked out and stranded on our terrace.Luckily we were on the first floor and my husband was able to bale over the side and get back in. The front desk receptionist said "this happens", and that the doors lock for security reasons. But when my husband went to the desk for a key to get let back into our room, they gave him one, no ID, no questions asked. Some "security"…

The hotel management needs to address this and tell people not to shut their patio doors from the outside, and they also need to verify that they're giving room keys to registered guests.

Door issue aside, I just wasn't wowed by this property. It's a very large, busy resort with a decent (but unheated) pool. The room itself was clean but tiny -- it was kind of Vegas on the outside but Motel 6 on the inside. I got the impression that their clientele is likely 20-30-something European professionals who enjoy the pool party vibe. For older travelers or people seeking quiet or luxury, it's probably not a good choice.

Hvar is gorgeous, but in my opinion there are better options for the money.

Room Tip: Don't shut your patio doors from the outside or you will be locked out and possibly stranded on...

My husband and I stayed for 1 week with Balkan Holidays in a sea view room. As previous reviewers have stated, the layout is unusual with dimly lit corridors and stairwells and steps everywhere, with lifts that seem to have a mind of their own. At the time of our visit, the lift did not go to the pool area so a huge amount of steps had to be negotiated! When we eventually did reach the pool area, it had been taken over by a large group of American college students who caused havic throughout the hotel. Eventually the police had to be called!

On the 2nd day, I missed my footing, and spent the rest of the holiday in our room, unable to walk. I must say at this point that all the staff were wonderful, not only supplying buckets of ice for the swelling, but also providing massive plates of fruit every day. A special thanks must go to Nico and the Reception Team.

At least, I thought, I could sit on our balcony couldn't I (?) BEWARE Mosquitoes quickly followed by a conference party who thought it was fun to shout obscenities at each other from their balconies.

Anyway to cut a long story short, after promises from the agent for Balkan Holidays that we would help with bagage on and off the ferry back to Split, plus help with check, we left the island. This did not happen.

In conclusion, Hvar is a beautiful island, but we have to agree with other reviewers that we would not return to the Hotel Amphora.

There is a huge flaw in the design of the showers, and it's that it DOES NOT BLOCK WATER FROM GETTING OUT ONTO THE FLOOR. It's a very small piece of glass that serves no purpose and there are no shower curtains. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. No matter how carefully you try to shower (which you shouldn't have to do!) and how many towels you try to put on the ground, you will inevitably flood your shower. Result? SLIP.FALL HIP INJURY.

On top of that, had a very unpleasant stay. 1) Housekeeping staff left the windows wide open after cleaning and there were 5-6 mosquitoes waiting for us when we got back to our room 2) the tub and sink were clogged when we first got there. told the staff, and they only unclogged the sink and not the tub. so yes, showering with dirty water up to your ankles is no fun

Told all this to the front desk clerk. she wasn't able to do much until the manager got in. However, we had a ferry to catch and told me to email the manager, Igor. Have emailed him TWICE and followed up. NO RESPONSE. Some customer service. Thanks for the hip injury and NOT RESPONDING TO MY EMAIL, AMFORA. RIDICULOUS

Had a lovely 3 night stay at the Amfora, didn't want to leave! Staff were friendly and helpful, informative about ferry times etc, Location of hotel is nice, our room overlooked the pool and over to the sea, beautiful view, the hotel is located a 7-10min walk from Hvar town where all the restaurants and bars are located, this was nice as it is only a short walk and meant the hotel itself was quiet at night in comparison with the other ones that are closer, however we did experience noise in the mornings possibly from the cleaners and guests walking in the corridors, possibly something to expect in a large hotel. The pool area is lovely, very pretty, the shaded seat areas to sit in for something to eat/drink are a nice option. Service around the pool of drinks and food was great and also a nice touch. Would recommend the hotel and would stay here again.

Pool's got waterslide and ocean view. Pool towels stinks of puke. Music from pool bar very noisy. On the whole, the pool area is very busy and staff doesn't seem to notice people from outside also sneaks in. Large breakfast buffet suitable for vegans as they serve soy milk- regretfully it's inside with a canteen atmosphere with weird background music.
We had a nice sea view from our balcony. Room was not clean when we checked in. There was yellow pee and pubes hair on the toilet. Cleaning staff came immediately to clean. Next days they forgot to fill up with towel. When we called the front desk for new, staff did not apologize but sounded as if we were asking for some extras we weren't entitled for. The third day, the cleaning left balcony door open (which we partly shared with neighbors!) and one hour before checking out they blocked our room - again with no apologizes - but claiming we've misunderstood checking out time- (which we couldn't have as everyone else checked out the same time as us). Large gym on the top floor with a balcony to do outdoor stretching/yoga on your own. Great hotel bar with superb sea view.
