Description: Restaurant Palace Paladini is placed at the old ancient part of City of Hvar. We offer fish delicious, meat and vege specialities, greatest wines and champagnes (Dom Perignon/Rose, Crystal, Moet & Chandon...).The palace where you are about to eat belonged to an old noble family from the Hvar called Paladinic (Paladinis - Italian version; de Paladinis - Latin version).Palace de Paladinis, built in renaissance style, is one of the most beautifull and outstanding Hvar palaces, situated in the southern part of the oldest nucleus of the town Hvar below the fortress known as Forto Spagnuolo. The upper palace Paladini was once the residence of Petar Hectorovic. Coat of arms found above the main entrance to the palace, on the family well erected in the garden, on the renaissance basin on the balcony of the palace and on the balustrade of the balcony bares two motives: a royal lily on the upper field and eagle`s wing of Subic family on the lower field. The present-day form of the palace (ground-floor, three upper floors and a monumental balcony - one of the most beautiful in Dalmatia) was designed by Nikola Paladinic, son of Jakov, who fought very bravely in the seabattle between Venetian and Turkish fleet. After the battle the Republic of Venice proclaimed him the knight of St Marc with golden toga.Palaces of Hvar noblemen clearly evidence of economic prosperity and cultural development of the local families in the 15th and 16th century. Furthermore, rich plebeian families always tried to keep step with noblemen which is quite manifest from their residental palaces (Vukasinovic-de Lupis, Garguric) that equal in their beauty even the most famous of noblemen of the town Hvar (Lucic, Paladini, Hectorovic, Gazarovic, Garguric, Vukasinovic...) where not erected during the period of town`s greatest prosperity, but only after the year 1571 when turks burnt the town and 1579 when lightning struck the ammunition warehouse at the town fortress causing a tremendous catastrophy.

The service was good, the food was very tasty but they really charge too much for everything... every drink cost 30 kunas (more than 4 eur)... so we payed 120 kunas (15 eur) just for 2 juices and 1 water and 1 beer. Also the food is expencive, but very very tasty.

Romantic atmosphere in a walled-in garden (no view, though), and the food was passable. What turned us off was their refusal to accept a VISA credit card, in spite of the sign on the door. The excuse was that the minimum charge is 1000 kn (about $ 200)! This screwed up our cash management.

After we ordered, apparently not expensive items or something, I saw the waiter shake his head. The food here is average at best and the prices are completely outrageous. On top of that I felt extremely uncomfortable during our entire experience. Finally, we we're informed that it was 1000 KN minimum to use a credit card and I didn't bring enough cash so I had to go to our room for more. I would avoid this place unless you have cash to burn for a very mediocre experience. Been all over the world and this was one of the worst dining experiences ever. I hope our 4 days we have left in Hvar gets better.

Overall this is an average restaurant with a very nice garden and weird service.

The restaurant is hard to find if you dont know what you are looking for (maps are not clear and its one block off the harbor). But we were impressed by the garden when we first sat down. Its very green with cute wooden tables.

The service, however, was bizarre. When before we took off our jackets, we were immediately asked "do you want the fish"? Startled (we must have looked confused) we were silent and then we were asked if we wanted to see the fish. We naturally asked for the menu. At which point the waiter sighed and begrudgingly brought us the menu . When it came time to order wine, the waiter pointed us to the two most expensive wines on the menu and told us we should drink those unless we wanted to "save money". The service was otherwise fine but certainly was not welcoming by any means. Every one has an off day so we can chalk it up to that.

The food was so-so. Nothing memorable. We ordered scampi buzzara and a seafood pasta as well as an octopus salad and a fish soup. None of which were any better than those of any other restaurant in the area.

overall though, the sauces were good and it was a cute place. Just not particularly memorable.
