“Fabulous Harbor View”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

The location of the Hotel Adriana is perfect, right downtown along the harbor. The terrace of the Adriana is part of the breakfast area and is only about twenty feet from the water. The breakfast buffet was excellent, the most varied we encountered in Croatia. Our room on the first floor had a fabulous harbor view with a large window that opened on the harbor side. The room size was adequate but small, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small and awkwardly designed. It took a few tries to figure out the shower, but basically all you have to do for a basic shower is turn the outer knob of the lower set of controls. The hotel's decor is super modern, purple themed and cold. There is a nice rooftop and fourth floor bar and restaurant with wonderful views of the harbor, and there was a nice terrace for guests on the first floor. The food in the restaurant was fine but nothing special. There is also a fourth floor pool. All the staff that we encountered were courteous and friendly.

We loved this hotel and its lovely view. Our bed was comfy and the bathroom tiny but nice. We loved opening the windows for the fresh sea air in the night although it doesn't really quiet down in the evening but that won't matter since you'll likely be out late here as well! Just leave the curtains open so the sunrise wakes you -- I promise you'll rarely see a more beautiful one as it fills the sky with pink clouds and warms the limestone buildings across the port. Breakfast on the deck out front is just a treat as well.

Room Tip: You must choose a room facing the water!

Dear valued Guest,

Thank you for sharing your lovely experience regarding your stay at Adriana Hvar Spa Hotel with us and the Tripadvisor followers.

It was delightful to learn that you have enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the décor of our hotel, and we were glad to hear that the team took care of you from your early arrival until your departure.

We are proud of the fabulous city views spreading all over our venues and teh remarkable rooftop Top Bar, our outstanding Sensori Spa rituals and a great breakfast experience which paired with high standards of service represents our greatest hotel highlights.

And the last but not the least, you are spot on about our location, being so close to all major attractions and right in the heart of Hvar city center with transport connections right on our doorstep.

We cannot wait to have you back with us and look forward to welcoming you again for more sunny memories!

With very best regards, Adriana Team

Great location, could not be beat. I would certainly request a harbor view in front of hotel. If you can afford a suite , go for it. The rooms are tiny, ultra sleek and hip. The bathrooms are really the problem. Style over function is the name of the game. Honestly, you need to be a rocket scientist to figue out how to use the shower. I am not kidding! There are multiple showere heads, as well as overhead shower but no explanation of how to use it. Additionally, it is very easy to cause a flood as you struggle to figure it all out. My tip to all visitors is to have the bell hop teach you to use shower before you even touch it yourself. Everyone in our group seemed to have the same problem. It was quite amusing. Don't miss the rooftop patio for catching a few rays and the terrific indoor salt water pool. Wonderful breakfast and outdoor dining option.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing our hotel and sharing this wonderful review with us. We appreciate all the feedback we can collect from our guests as our management is keen to always improve our service and guest experience. Therefore, we shared your comment with our employees and even though we can not change technical details in the room, we will include short manual in the bathroom to avoid problems with a shower.

Thank you again so much and we hope to welcome you again in Hvar!

First a little rant - I booked the Hvar Palace because I wanted to have an old "historic" hotel. I didn't care about air conditioning or the number of stairs I would have to clime. I travel in Europe to experience history and culture, not to stay in another stylish but soulless Hilton/Hyatt/Sheraton whatever hotel.

When I got to Hvar I found that the the Hvar Palace was closed for the winter (despite sending me a confirmation email for my booking the day before) so I had to check into their sister hotel, the Adriana. Hence the Adriana was not my choice.

The good stuff:
a) Excellent staff - they were so warm and helpful, all smiles and service without an outstretched palm expecting/demanding a tip.
b) Breakfast was the best I had in Croatia - high quality and wide range of options I didn't have in other hotels
c) Service was amazing - the restaurant staff moved moved a table because my wife can't sit in the sun
d) Aspect - overlooking the harbour was stunning, our room view was perfect and having breakfast next to the harbour was such a luxury

The less good stuff:
a) The hotel is very modern with no historic character - just like any other modern hotel in the US.

In summary - the staff are amazing, the hotel great but it wasn't what I booked or wanted. The Hotel Adriana will work for you if you want modern and functional.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a harbour view room.

The Adriana is a sleek, modern hotel in an excellent harborside location that makes it worth tolerating its shortcomings. I think it's the best location in Hvar; having breakfast on the sunny patio a few feet from the harbor's edge every morning was delightful, as was enjoying a nightcap at the upstairs bar with a gorgeous view. We visited mid-September after the summer party crowd had subsided, so were pleasantly surprised not to be troubled by noise.

The first thing to note is that you should specify a "sea view" room if you want one of the rooms directly facing the harbor, which I would recommend. We booked a "harbor view" room which, turns out to be a room terraced back along the side of the hotel with an angled window at the far end of the room peeking out to the harbor. Crazy - and nowhere on the hotel's website can you get an accurate description of these room options. The room was dark, and you had to stand in the far corner to even look out the window - not the light-filled view room we expected. We expressed our disappointment and were told to check back in the morning, as the hotel was full. We did, and to her credit the manager made every effort to offer us alternatives - we looked at another "harbor view" room on the south side that had an even worse view but did offer a small balcony; we ended up staying on the north side but moving one room closer to the front of the hotel,so our view was much better.

The room itself is minimalist, comfortable enough but the bathroom is tiny and inconvenient - the countertop runs behind the shower stall, making access awkward, and opening the shower door fills the tiny space in front of the sink and you can't keep the bath mat in place. The hair dryer is across the hall in the closet, so you use the mirror on the door to do your hair. There is a good amount of closet and shelf space, and a separate toilet room. Most challenging,is figuring out where to hang wet swimsuits etc. to dry - the shower cubicle is enclosed in floor-to-ceiling glass panels and offered almost nothing to attach a clothesline to, and there was little space in the rest of the tiny bath area.

Breakfast was good. The buffet offered a good assortment of the usual items, supplemented by a menu of hot items cooked to order.

The hotel's location is excellent, right on the main harbor, around the other side from where the catamarans dock. A 10-minute walk to its sister property, the Amfora, where there are some good beaches. Note that for some reason the TripAdvisor map incorrectly shows the Adriana some distance away from the center of town, in a completely different location.

Overall, I was pleased with our choice of hotel and enjoyed our time on Hvar very much.

Room Tip: Book a "sea view" not a "harbor view" to get a room on the front side looking at...

We expected a small room with a minimalist look which was fine for a short stay. The view was spectacular, and the closet space was ample, but the bath room could only have been designed by a skinny man who was also an exhibitionist. The all glass shower was part of the room, the drain was badly placed, the shower faucets were hard to turn on, and there was no room for a bath mat if you wanted to open the shower door. The counter at the single sink was also minimalist with not much room for the toiletries of 2 people or bars for hand towels. The breakfast buffet was good, as was the service. The location was also good, just a few minutes from shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: You really want a room with a waterfront view.

Beautiful property on Hvar Harbor. Rooms are modern-hip, roomy and comfortable. Request a harbor-view room. Waterfront restaurant and top floor bar are great places for a wonderful meal and drinks with a post-card view.

Room Tip: Request a harbor-view room.
