“The gem”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

Korcula island is a genuine gem of Adriatic and this small, family run restaurant (konoba to be precise) is the gem of Korcula. Wonderful food made of fresh home grown ingredients (or fish just out of the Adriatic), delicate domestic rakijas (fruit and grapes brandies) that will boost your appetite and friendly staff that don't behave very formal because they treat you as if you've come to their own peasant home (and actually you did)...all of the mentioned will make the visit to this place unforgettable. The best time to visit Konoba kod Mate is on your way back from beautiful beach Pupnatska luka. It's probably the best beach on the island and one not very easy to get to.

“Quaint village food”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

Family run restaurant in a small village 20 min from Korcula. Authentic organic food, the lamb stew was excellent.

“A big let down”
Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

We were advised to take an evening meal here by the person who we rented out apt from in Korcula..she highly recommended it and the majority of the reviews on trip adviser back her up. However, after our visit and then reading the reviews again the vast majority of them refer to lunch time experiences and not dinner. I have to say the dinner menu was probably the worst menu I have ever had the unfortunate experience of reading. About 5 starter and about the same mains. Portions were small and the meat was tough, if you could find any on your plate. My wife and a friend picked the lamb stew, it came in a "pot to share" which they didn't ask for or want. The lamb was very limited and what bit could be found in the mass of liquid juice, was full of fat. Grannies meat balls were the best choice but again small, you got three ! The best part was the sweets. We never do sweets but needed to fill up on something. Our worst meal so far by a county mile.

“A bit disappointed ”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 via mobile

Having read all the great reviews here we went to Mate for lunch. The expectations were high, as we've already visited a few great places on the island. The lunch started great with amazing set of local specialties.

Unfortunately after that the magic stopped.

Service was very polite but very very slow. We got touch meat that was supposed to be veal. I was hungry, so were the kids. Still, we left most of it uneaten. Pasta with shrimp was only half-decent.

Strangely, there was no fish on the menu.

May well be the experience is better for dinner. I didn't want to risk and try again...

May be the goat, which they seem to have as their special here, makes the difference. Again: didn't want to risk...

“Homecooked food”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

We stopped here for lunch on a scootertrip around the Island. It was mid-June and very quiet on the whole Island which was perfect for us. We stopped in this charming small village Pupnat and had our lunch here at Konoba Mate. It seemed like it was a family run restaurant and the service and feel to the place was friendly and relaxed. I think I can say that I had the best pasta I have ever tasted here. Everything was just perfect.
