Stanger is in the coast line in Istria. Just on the side of the main road. Reasonable price in the area with friendly service. The restaurant beside is renovated and more-less fine dining place with local ingredients.

We stayed for seven nights as a family of seven using four rooms. All the rooms were clean and comfortable and had all the amenities except for tea and coffee making facilities.
We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Breakfast was excellent. Boris the owner cooked us English bacon and eggs on top of the normal continental buffet provided.
Dinner was served in the adjacent restaurant. We had three courses with a choice of two for each course. Very good meals and incredibly good value.
The hotel is quiet and well located within a few yards of the sea. We fished, somewhat successfully, from the rocks opposite the hotel.
It takes fifteen minutes to walk into the centre of Lovran.
Lovran is a picturesque small town with a delightful old centre (Starigrad), a good choice of cafes and restaurants, larger hotels, banks and a Post Office. Behind the town, there are roads that lead up into the hills from where the views are magic.
Along the road to the north you pass the small towns of Ika and Icici and then meet Opatija which is larger and has a very good selection of hotels, restaurants, shops etc and an attractive promenade and sea front. You can also visit the islands of Krk and Cres, both with lovely main harbour towns.
All in all, an excellent place to visit for a few days and the Pansion Stanger can be recommended as a base.
This was our second holiday at the Pansion Stanger.

Room Tip: The rooms to the front have excellent sea views and balconies but there is some occasional traffic n...

Stayed in this hotel for two nights in the beginning of July-13. Coming from the direction of Plomin Luka (west), the hotel was easy to find. Google maps shows a wrong location, though.
Hotel was clean and peaceful, view to the sea was beautiful. Room wasn't too big, but spaceous enough for two persons. Because the weather was fine, breakfasts were served at the terrace; nice.
Location was actually quite good. Nice beach of Medveja is at a walking distance. Otherwise it is good to have a car, if You want to visit for example Opatija or city of Rijeka. Nothing to complain about, would definitely go there again.

Room Tip: Stayed in a room facing to the hill and forest. View wasn't so nice, but it was peaceful

Very friendly, modern hotel with lovely terrace and just across the road from lovely clean swimming. Mainly occupied by German/Austrian tourists on full board but the B&B rates are excellent value. They take credit cards too - which is a bonus.
Our room was 'Park View' which actually means looks out onto the rock face at the back (!) but was at least quiet. I would think front (sea view) rooms could be noisy from the road though I notice few have complained.
Hotel is actually south of Lovran; not where Google or Tripadvisor place it. It's about a 1km walk into the town (bit dodgy with traffic but parking in Lovran is tricky) for a choice of restaurants and bars but the on-site one is excellent and has slightly more imaginative menu than others locally.
Good choice if you want to be out of the town centre and also very convenient for ferry to Cres. WiFi works in reception but gets flaky as you climb the stairs.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are away from main road, but you have to forego the stunning view

Stayed here for one night before catching ferry to Cres. Modern clean facilities about 1 km south of town center. Good breakfast. Free wi fi but it did not work on the top floor. Excellent value for money at 44 euros for two persons with sea view room (early October)

We had a week here towards the end of September 2011. We had a terrific room, with a sea view, air conditioning and a fridge for €390, for two people, for a week. This is less than €60 per room, per couple, per night, bed and breakfast. That price included two evening meals for two people.

The room was lovely and comfortable, with a big balcony. Breakfasts were generous and taken on a terrace when the weather was clement. Two evenings we ate in the hotel, and on the first occasion we enjoyed some fried fish/ shellfish. The other time we had grilled squid. Both meals represented exceptional value for money, and they were very tasty.

If taking dinner, it is best to order in the morning, and this can be slightly inconvenient, if you are undecided about whether to eat in the pension 12 hours later. Spontaneity can be a casualty.

The car park is ample, but also tight. Manoeuvering the car can be a bit of a squeeze.

The small concrete strip by the sea, just across the road from the pension is fabulous. I realise that "small concrete strip" and "fabulous" have seldom been linked, but trust me. There are 20 or so sun loungers on a patch of concrete just above the sea, in an area attached to the pension. This is a lovely place to spend the day, reading, snorkelling and sunbathing, with views of Cres Island, Krk Island and the Kvarner Gulf. Loungers are provided to make things even nicer. This is a de facto private beach attached to a €30 per person, per night pension. Wonderful!

We flew to Riejka, with Ryanair, for about £130, including all extras, and a 15Kg of hold luggage, and a hire car cost £225 for 11 days. Pension Stanger was a fantastic place to explore the Kvarner Gulf area. We hiked on Vojak, in the Ucka massif, took a ferry to Cres, had a look around Opatija, and had two days in Istria.

The beaches are pebbly, but the water is crystal clear. Buy some jelly shoes.

Lovran makes a quiet, if small base, and it really helps if you hire a car. In Lovran, our favourite restaurants were the Kvarner Grill, and Knezgrad, Trg Slobode 12, the latter being especially well priced.

If travelling to Istria, visit Svetvincenat, Dvigrad and Rovinj. Go to Piran, across the border in Slovenia. Have pasta with truffles and wild asparagus in a hill-top village like Motovun or Labin, and have some suckling pig in Flengi, near Porec. Have a great time, but you have to hire a car.

Room Tip: Just ask Boris for a sea view, and the longer you are staying, the more likely you are to get one.
