“beautiful holiday”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

we stayed for the first time last August at zaton holiday. A pleasant surprise, we stayed in the new 4-star apartments, our open for 4 people, we lived 3 persons with 2 dogs. The rooms are spacious, very clean, with everything, even if to a limited extent (4 cutlery, dishes ... 4). Our friends booked a 3 stars apartment for 2 people, not great, but with everything you need, beautiful beach, beautiful sea. We always dined Bepo or Maestral with very beautiful terrace overlooking the sea. We plan to return next year

Spend 14 days with Family - 2 Adults & 2 children aged 14 & 10 in a Mobile Home (Sunroller) which was a great experience !
The resort is huge... Apartments - Camping Area and Mobile home area...
The Sunroller Mobile home we stayed in had 2 seperate bedrooms and could fit 5 people in total - apprx. 60 SqM.. and a great porch with table & chairs.
A complete kitchen incl. microwave as well.
Plenty of activities... Tennis - Beach Volley - Mini Golf - ATV´s - Horseback riding - Football... some of the actitivies are free but others You have to pay for..
The only beach in Croatia to my knowledge which consist of sand only and not only rocks.. very child-friendly !! - Please however note that You have to pay extra for lounge chairs & Umbrellas - rental only and charged per day - This goes for the beach but also for the pool area...!

Only downside is the WIFI... signal NOT very strong and mainly only functional arund reception area... When staying in mobile home You have 2 hours free every day during Your stay - more than that You have to pay ..
I would recommend to make the WiFi free of charge to all and indeed make the signal stronger and more reliable than current..

All in all a great experience and can remommend to families travelling with children including Teens !

Zaton Holiday Resort have a very nice beach and good pool area - it is situated near the very nice village of Nin - where there are several nice restaurants. The supermarket on the campingsite is not having a broad selection of daily groceries and the prizes are high - You need to go to the big supermarkets in Zadar to get a broad selection and a fair prize.

We stayed in the mobile homes - which were in the camping area (use the camping reception)- and well equipped - not huge but in the good weather we ate all our meals on the roomy balcony. There were two bedrooms and bathrooms - so great for our family of 4.
The resort was excellent - shallow sandy beach the kids played in for ages - all amenities on site and a great trip arranged to go canoeing in the mountains. Swimming pool very busy but we didn't need to use it as a great beach,
Great base to explore the Zadar area,

Pluses: Nice sandy beach with a lot of sport and fun activities. Good place for families with kids of all ages.
Minuses: The staff (receptionist, waiters, bar tenders, security) was generally quite unfriendly and their tone reminded me of my time in the army. The service quality is just not up at Western standards! The food was at best average. All activities had to be paid extra (even the bouncing castle) and prices were quite high (e.g. 35€ for 10 minutes of waterski). I would not have minded to pay more for the room but then all activities should be included.
My overall impression is that the resort is badly managed.

Dear Fabio,

Thank you for your feedback of our resort. We appreciate your comments and your review.

We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed our beach and the activities organised by our animation team.

We are sorry that you felt the service was not according to your expectations.
We will be using your review as an example in upcoming staff training programs so that our employees can better understand how their actions can impact the guest experience.

Concerning the dining possibilities there are in total 6 restaurants in our resort serving international and local dishes and the experiences are quite positive. We are sorry to hear that your experience was an average one.

Pools, animation, some of the sports facilities are included in the price but some of the activities such as jet-ski, bouncing castle, parasailing, diving school, sailing school, horseback riding are paid extra which is a common practise in the resorts of our type.

We appreciate your taking the time to review your stay and hope that you'll come back to Zaton Holiday Resort on your next trip to Croatia.

Best personal regards

Nice, clean and comfortable place for families with kids.
The night animation program sometimes a bit loud :)
Very nice clay tennis courts available with huge capacity (incl. 4x with lights open until 22:00).

Room Tip: Ground floor apartments (stayed at a 3*) are equipped with a very nice terraces oriented mostly into...

After 6 year staying in the resort with my family, I have a need to write a review with the hope that some of the management will read it and maybe think about my comments. We started coming to Zaton when our son was born. The primary reason was that the sandy beach, kids club and pool that are perfect for the families with small kids. We are Croatian, so we know the coast and its touristic offer. The main issue I have with the resort is the apartments. For four years, we were staying in the 3 stars apartment.
My comment is following:

• Every accommodation has to have a decent bed. The sofas is in the salons is beyond any comment. It is pure disgrace. If you have any back problems, think twice of booking. It is very old sofa, extremely hard, full of holes, bumpy and of suspicious cleanness. This issue was repeating throughout all 6 years of our stay and all six apartments we stayed in. finally, I had to bring a silicone protection cover to put it on the sofa. How pathetic.
• Kitchen: Equipment is more than very basic. When I say basic, I mean that they literally count the tea spoons and glasses. If you have 4 persons apartment, you will have 4 spoons, 4 forks etc. If you have a visitor, you cannot even offer a drink since you will not have a glass for an extra person. These days things like this are not so expensive. For the price they charge, they should buy some better equipment. Fridge is too small. If you put one bottle in, there is no space for much more. If you do not eat out, it is difficult to manage.
• Other furniture: just sad, nothing more to say.
• Cleaning: they should clean more the apartments. They change towels every 3 days and linens every week. If you stay more than one week, often you have to remind them to change the linens and they will certainly NOT clean the bathroom and the floor. They should at least mug the floor every 3 days or once a week. They do not provide any mugs in the apartment. Therefore, you cannot clean the floor with the disinfectant. Can you imagine the floor after staying there with the small kids?
• Internet: not working properly even during the few hours they offer.
This year we stayed in 4 stars apartment in hope that, at least, we will have a good bed.
• To our surprise, there was the same terrible sofa in the salon!!!!
• Kitchen: broken door of the fridge, broken fridge inside. The same kitchen equipment: four spoons, four glasses, four cups
• Phone: did not work during the whole stay of ten days. They came to fix it few times but without success. Every time we got some stupid explanation. Apparently, management is aware of this problem, but they rent out the apartment anyway.
• We had electricity cut twice during our stay. Apparently, it was due to the fact that the sink is literally 10 cm from the electric stove. The water was leaking into the stove and created a shortcut. I am not certain if the kitchen is fixed according to safety rules. Every time we had to walk a long way to the reception to report it due to the fact that we did not have a phone
• We were not able to close the door to the patio. We reported it several times. They came to fix it, but without the success. Therefore, during the whole stay our apartment was accessible to anyone.
In general, the apartment was a bit bigger and prettier than the 3 stars apartment. Bed in the bedroom was good. Nevertheless, the problems we have experienced: broken kitchen, broken doo, no phone and electricity cuts were pretty serious in my opinion.
I must stress out that this was old 4 starts apartment. This year, they transformed some old 3 stars apartments into 4 stars. Therefore, they have money to invest and increase the prices, but they cannot fix the basic things in the old apartments. This is not the way how you treat the guests.
All this was reported to the staff but most of the issues were not solved. We asked to speak to the manager, but he avoided us.
On the positive side, staff is pretty friendly for Croatian standards, surrounding is very well maintained, sports facilities are decent, beech is prefect for kids, prices for the food and drinks are reasonable. This was always our main motivation for coming here. Unfortunately, I am not sure that we will come next year. More than 200 euros for the apartment without 4 decent beds is too much.
