“Tranquility in central Istria”
Reviewed 21 April 2017 for a stay in October 2016

Those who prefer the quietness of central Istria, outstanding hospitality, and meeting wonderful people should certainly consider Kosovija. This is a great location for day rides and exploration of Istra via backroads that may not even be on some maps. I recommend renting the entire house, which is what we did. During our stay we managed to spend a lot of time relaxing, participating in olive harvest (and the following party that lasted into wee hours), and interacting with the homeowners, Lori and Raul, and grandma and grandpa, who would stay next door from time to time. All of them are super nice people and have made sure that all our needs were fulfilled. Having coffee with the parents and talking about history of Istra and Kosovija was a special treat; the Kosovija land has been in the family since the 17th century.

If we never stayed in Kosovija we would have regretted it later. This almost happened, because they were about to close for the winter. I contacted Lori directly, not expecting positive answer, but was mistaken. She promptly responded and made sure to accommodate us. Also, it turned out that we share similar interests in organic agriculture and particular diets—as a welcoming gift we received a full basket of vegetables from their garden and some products from other producers in the area! Nothing tastes like a home grown tomato.

The house itself is rather nice. Around it is a calming, quiet environment and great landscape, including that of mount Ucka.

Overall, Kosovija was exactly what we wanted. Additional perk was that we made new friends in Croatia.

[As a side note, the nearest larger grocery store is in Pazin, some twenty minute ride from the house on a county road. It is a pleasant ride; however, the visitors who plan to stay longer, but prefer not to drive, should consider purchasing provisions prior to arrival.]

“Enjoy the serene beauty of Istria at Kosovija!!”
Reviewed 3 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We are so glad we decided to stay at Kosovija for part of our 5 nights in Istria in September. It was a welcome change from the overly-crowded (but beautiful) Rovinj. To give you an idea, it is only about a 10-15 minute drive from there to Hum, maybe about 35-40 minutes to Groznjan and the northern hill town area. A great location as a base for exploring or a place to just unwind. We felt instant relaxation the minute we arrived. The countryside where Kosovija is located is breathtaking. When you reach the narrow tree-lined road that leads to the house, you are thinking “where are we going”, then you pull up to a beautiful home surrounded by greenery, trees, gardens, views of country and mountains as far as your eyes can see. That is just the beginning! The home itself is gorgeous with very high-end finishes and comfortable furnishings and is shining clean. The Wi-Fi works perfectly if you can’t do without your gadgets. It’s surrounded by lovely grapevine covered patios with comfortable lounge chairs, tables for dining, even a chair swing in a giant tree! You can wander through the large gardens, olive grove or just walk along the road. There is also a huge grassy area perfect for kids to play on. Everything thing is impeccably maintained. Peaceful, quiet, comfortable! Our lovely host, Lory, went out of her way to meet and greet us with delicious cakes, cookies, homegrown figs and tomatoes, homemade grappa and wine. We chatted about our trip, food, wine and family and she left us with us maps, driving suggestions and tips to make our time spent the best possible. Our (too short) time spent in Kosovija is a very memorable part or out trip and we highly recommend staying there and soaking in the beauty of Istria!

“Loved it here! Perfect location, great food, and wonderful hosts”
Reviewed 4 February 2015 for a stay in July 2013

This is an ideal central location for exploring Istria. It's a very peaceful and quiet place with a nice panorama. There is a vineyard on the property and beautiful lavender fields. The owners make their own wine so be sure to ask them about it! The hosts are really wonderful people and make excellent Mediterranean cuisine. They are willing to help with anything you need and can speak English, Italian, and Croatian. It's great place for families, friends, or if you simply want to come by yourself and enjoy some beautiful nature. I came several times both by myself and once with my family. You won't regret staying here!
