We loved the experience of staying here. Off the beaten track...a little of an adventure. Make sure you share in their dinner -- FANTASTIC! This is a local experience and truly added to our trip through Croatia and Slovenia.

My wife and I stayed here one night on the way from Split to Zagreb. Our hostess, Helena, was friendly, knowledgable and turned out to be a great cook. She went out of her way to take care of our needs and make our stay the best possible, even giving us tips on the best views of the waterfalls.

The room was clean and comfortable, and located 10-15 walk from the park. The food is very well done local cuisine and more than you can possibly eat even after a full day of hiking.

We didn't want to stay in one of the bigger hotels because we were looking for somewhere quaint with a little personality, and Villa Mukinja was exactly that. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

We stayed there for one night, after staying at the wonderful Hotel Degenija close by. Unfortunately they didnt have rooms for the second night and we had to move. After looking at several disapointing Zimmers we ended up at the Villa Mukinja.
The very skilled saleslady Helena convinced us that they provide the best value in the region as their large rooms are unique and they provide the best dinner included in the price, cooked by one of Tito's ex cooks.
After bargaining the price we reduced it from 180 (!!!!) euros to 130 (!!!!!!!!!) euros per night per couple including breakfast and dinner. Just for the sake of the comparison, we paid 85 for b&b in the presidential suite at the Degenjia (add some more exclamation marks here)
The dinner is definitely NOT worth the 55 euros. If the cook was really Tito's cook, then is completely understandable why she ended up in that place. As main course we got totallly dried veal and chicken breasts and something they called beef fillet with some fried potatoes. For desert blintzes with some industrial sirup and ice cream. Very dissapointing after the owner kept bragging that he buys the best and freshest produce. It was definitely not worth the price. On top of that he pushed on us a bottle of local wine for 35 euros ( did i say exclamation marks ???)
The rooms we took were the ones on the second floor with balconies. Indeed very large ones. There was a road construction right under the one facing the front of the house and the tractors started making noise at 7 am, something they could have told us ahead of time.
Bottom line, large and clean rooms, but not worth the money. Dont go there, Make a reservation ahead of time at the hotel Degenjia and you wont regret it.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the backyard

We have made a roadtrip trough Croatia with 4 friends last August. Our last stop in this beautiful country were the Plitvice Lakes. We didn't plan anything in advace and we were just driving around looking for a place to stay. Lots of good luck we've had that we stopped at this place! Very friendly, hospitable and authentic staff who make you feel very welcome. For dinner, you just choose fish or meat and they will do the magic. As brilliant as the dinner was, the same feeling was there after the breakfast. A few days before I cutted my foot pretty bad on some sharp rocks in the sea. I forgot the name of the beautiful girl who works here, but the bottle of pure alcohol she gave me did the job painfully good :) Thanks for taking good care of us!

Wish you all the best!

cheers,
Thomas

You can walk to the world-famous Plitvice lakes from this small hotel (but it is downhill and so you will have to walk back when you're bone-tired after tramping around the stunning lakes - but that's a small price to pay). The hotel staff were very friendly, and like just about everyone else we met in Croatia, fluent in English. We took dinners at the hotel, and the food was simply amazing (trout one night and grilled meats the next). The side dishes were also well-prepared, unique and quite tasty, and Croatian wine can hold its own with wines of California, Italy and France.

Room Tip: We opted to pay for a large room and were not disappointed, but my guess is that a smaller room woul...

As with other reviewers, I experienced the same disappointment with no hot tub and no sauna available. The proprietors need to either stop advertising these facilities or make them available. On the positive side, the food is very good and the staff attentive. All in all, I do feel this place is over-priced. There is plenty of accommodation around Plitvice of different kinds, so shop around.

Stayed as a family of 4 for one night in a room that was tired, outdated and, whilst clean, did not feel "nice" because of the age of the inclusions in the room and the linen/blankets. The carpet, particularly, seemed like it was "pet friendly". There was no TV in the room; that's fine with us, but annoying that they advertise the room as having a TV.

We had dinner included, which was adequate but nothing to write home about. Breakfast was fine.

This area is all about visiting Plitvice NP and it seems that most of the accommodation in the area is not too flash. We would have preferred to stay in the National Park at Hotel Plitvice, but all the hotels were booked out. We stayed at Hotel Bellevue about 14 years ago, and whilst it too was spartan, it was great to be staying in the National Park closer to the lakes.

In short, we don't think it's worth the trek, would prefer to stay at one of the National Park hotels which are probably of comparable quality and price.

Room Tip: Unless you are particularly after a B&B experience, stay in one of the hotels in the Plitvice Na...
