“The Great Views Don't Support the Experience”
Reviewed 28 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

The great views are beyond compromise. Be prepared for more than meets the eye. The management company charges for extra towels, cautions you about extra towel charges should you leave makeup or suntan lotion on the towels, the beds are not made, THERE WAS NEITHER SOAP nor toiletries, and there is no maid service to the unit. The beds are lousy and you also need to take out the trash, up 35 to 40 stairs or so. The high price was not met with high service or accommodations. You pay a lot for the view but the comfort, service, and quality are middling when compared to the premium price. Do a great deal of shopping before being taken in by the what are lovely views.

“Lovely apartment with stunning views”
Reviewed 30 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This was a lovely apartment with stunning views. Very clean and well presented and well equipped. The balcony where we sat each morning and evening gives stunning views across the city and old port, only made possible though by the 470 odd steps up to it so climbing all 3 flights from the city is not for the faint hearted although it does keep the cakes and pastries from the lovely bakery at the bottom at bay! The apartment and view is really worth it though. The apartment itself is set in the middle of one flight of steps so can only be accessed by climbing up from the road below or down from the road above. My 78 year old mum travelled with us and we just arranged either a taxi to collect from below or a drop off above to enable her to always be going down just steps which she found easier. The estate provided a mobile phone and arranged taxi pick ups for us which was great. Nothing was an issue for them. We arranged airport transfers and a private tour through them and both were great - very efficient and th driver was very knowledgeable. Private pool area again with stunning views was lovely, albeit a few steps up from the apartment itself. Separate BBQ patio was also lovely. To sum up, a very enjoyable stay in a lovely apartment with fantastic views.

“The View”
Reviewed 11 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

The apartment was perfect - modern, spacious, clean, cool and with the most spectacular view of the Old City. The pool shared the same views and has an outdoor mini-kitchen with fridge-freezer. The pool can also be lit at night. You can even shower there while watching pirate ships sail out of the port!

Other reviews are right to point out the many steps. 478 from the Old City and about half that to the nearest supermarket. This requires a certain level of fitness as well as sensible footwear. It might be difficult to do with younger children. Taxis are an option and will cost between £5 and £10 depending on the destination. However there will still be some steps up or down to the apartment at the end of the journey.

The apartment might not suit a young family for another reason - the distance of the pool from the house - it is about 10-15 steps up the public path, is completely separate and cannot be seen from the apartment. Likewise the apartment cannot be seen from the pool.

Information about Dubrovnik is limited and the welcome pack is little more than a list of charges that can be incurred. Kitchen utensils are minimal and would be improved by some basics like a spatula, sieve or colander. The apartment has a good barbecue (if you can carry the coals from the supermarket!} and pleasant outdoor eating area. Eating out in the Old City can be expensive, although enjoyable. Would recommend Kavana Dubravka at Pile Gate of the places we tried, Soft drinks are the worst cost at around £3 while a beer only costs 50p more. Cheaper restaurants can be found around the Lapad/new port areas.

Banje beach is tiny, busy and loud and offers some water sports activities. If you want a more relaxing beach take the number 8 or 6 bus to Babin Kuk and follow the signs for Copacabana Beach. We had a great day visiting the islands with a private boat, but there are ferry services from the Old Port and a Libertas (public) ferry service from the new port.

The staff at Hedera were great. A phone is given to contact them but we just used email and they always responded quickly and were very helpful. They made all our arrival and departure travel arrangements and the ease of this added greatly to our enjoyment of the stay.

Overall, a great holiday and a beautiful apartment if it is right for your group.

“440 Steps to Heaven”

If it's a peaceful location and a view over the old city of Dubrovnik, Lokrum Island and the Adriatic that you are after, you are unlikely to find anywhere better than this well appointed apartment with access to a private swimming pool located in a secure nearby courtyard. The view from the terrace is simply stunning as you watch the hive of activity in the harbour below.

Besides the ample kitchen and lounge/dining area there is another alfresco dining area by the BBQ. There are two good sized double bedrooms, one with an ensuite, a smallish twin bedded room and a little room with a couch which converts into a passable double bed. There is also a second bathroom. For four people the apartment is spacious and for six perfectly adequate. Any more would be a squeeze. The wifi worked well.

The owners/managers were very helpful in providing a pick up service to and from Dubrovnik airport.

The apartment is located mid way between two access roads which traverse the steep hillside high above Dubrovnik. There is no direct vehicular access. From the apartment it is about 130 somewhat irregular steep concrete steps down to the road below. The road above is just a few steps closer although it actually seemed further climbing up with the suitcases! Even the pool courtyard is some 30 steps up the hill. To reach the old town and the nearest supermarket you will need to descend 440 steps. No small feat for little or elderly feet! If that doesn't get your attention then I'm betting the return journey will, although you can short cut by taking a taxi for 60 Kuna thereby limiting your ascent to the aforementioned 130 steps. Either way it's Heaven when you arrive! (Old rockers who remember Eddie Cochran very well may think his route would have been easier). This then is not an apartment for anyone who finds steps hard going but if they don't worry you, you may well be fitter at the end of your holiday than you were at the beginning. Surely a happy state of affairs!

“Absolutely amazing, stunning views”
Reviewed 19 June 2012 for a stay in June 2012

Stayed here in June 2012 with a group of 6 of us, and it was amazing! Exactly as the photos show. Really modern, clean and spacious. The apartment has more outdoor areas to sit than you could imagine too! The main apartment has a terrace out the front with stunning views over the old town and then another patio to the back/side with a table and built in bbq. The pool area is simply amazing...it's up about 15 stairs from the apartment itself, but well worth it for the views down! Very well appointed too with small kitchen area including fridge by the pool as well.

The owners were really friendly and helpful - they arranged a taxi for us from the airport and then personally drove us out of town to the shops when we arrived because supermarkets in town were closed on sundays. They also gave us a mobile phone for us to use to call local numbers/taxis/them during our stay which was a really nice touch.

The only negative was the lack of internet despite being advertised as having it. And then I guess also the 480 steps you had to climb up from the old town to get to it. But this shouldn't really be a negative, because the views when you got there and the quality of the apartment were worth every step!
