“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed 16 March 2014 via mobile

We stayed at Hotel Istra for 2 weeks last September. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were small but had everything that we needed. We would like to had a few more english speaking channels other than the news to keep me occupied whilst it rained. It did rain for couple of days and got quite cold in the evenings so would recommend bringing something warm to wear. I normally prefer the lying on the beach than pool side but I didn't like the stoney beach and the sea to cold for me but my boyfiend quite enjoyed it. Breakfast and dinner are a buffet style. Plenty of choices but got repetitive after a while. Evenings got bit boring. They had entertainment but its more like butlins than vegas. Most of guests were young families or people over the age of 50, which wasn't a problem for us but another couple did say it was like staying in old peoples home. Overall we had a lovely relaxing time at hotel but if I was to visit to rovinj again I would only stay for a week.

Dear Reviewer,

Many thanks for your kind words about your stay at hotel Istra last September. As it seems you were able to enjoy your time at our property even though you were not as fortunate to have sunny weather throughout your entire stay. Septembers in Istria are usually still pretty warm, and if the weather is nice, the temperature of the sea remains around 21°C, which most of our guests still find warm enough to enjoy a swim.

Your comments about our evening program are most appreciated as it helps us to improve, and we will consider it when creating our entertainment plan for this year. We usually invite our guests to benefit of our amazing location, which allows you to visit numerous bars and restaurants in a short boat ride, or stay at island to relax in the peaceful surroundings and nature.

We hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you soon again to hotel Istra on your next visit to Croatia.

An amazing hotel in a beautiful location! Set on an island near to the unspoilt town of Rovinj, it really is magnificent. You have to travel by boat to and from the island which doesn't take long and boat times are quite regular too. Hotel reception area is big and spacious and there's a nice bar. Breakfast is downstairs which is buffet (lovely but did get repetitive after a while). They were serving chips for breakfast... Still wondering how many people actually got some. There are plenty of swimming pools and places to sunbathe, but not forgetting this hotel is on an ISLAND - it has its own beach! There are also plenty of sports and activities to take part in. The hotel room was lovely and contemporary. Not very big but it had everything you needed. Take the time out to walk around the whole island because it is such a treat!

I actually stayed here all the way back in July 2011 - tripadvisor won't let me put that!

I've stayed at the Hotel Istra in October 2013 because of the dance weekend that kept place there. Because the hotel was full, they gave us a room in a building near the hotel, which was bran new. When we came into our room we were positively shocked, because it was a suite. With bedroom, living room, bathroom with both shower and bad, and a therase with an unbeliveable wiew to the other island st. Andrew's. It was marveolus. And for the same price as standard room.

There was a lot to choose from for breakfast and dinner for everybody. So I can defenitely say that meals are very rich and various.

We were very pleased and satisfied with the whole offer at the hotel and on the island, so we will most defenitely come back again.

Defenitely worth the money that we paid.

Room Tip: If you can afford to pay some extra money ask for a suite in a nearby building (I forgot how it is c...

We were at Hotel Istra on a summer vacation in 2013. It was perfect! Beautiful island, great, modern hotel with excellent location - only 15 minutes from Rovinj and tourist crowd, and still you have a peace, nature, beaches...

We loved it! Room was small but with modern furniture, good bed and great view! We were very pleased with food (breakfast and dinner) at hotel restaurant and service was also very good. Hotel staff was very professional, kind and friendly.

Island nature is amazing with flowers, lavander & rosemary all around, with few different kinds of beaches (everybody can find the one that like the most), with seagulls and beautiful sea.

Really nice holiday! We will surely come again :)

Room Tip: Room with a view! Pay little more - you will not regret it!!! But than choose higher floor for even...

Stayed in September 2013 for our 1st wedding anniversary.

Beautiful location

Nice but small rooms

spa was lovely and reasonably priced

Food was okay, repetitive as we were there 2 weeks

Sea was nice, weather lovely, pools clean and warm.

They don't call it the jewel of the Adriatic for nothing would I go back? Yes I would.

Enjoy xx

The location and setting of this hotel is excellent. The views going in and out of the town are amazing, particularly on an evening. The food at the hotel if ok, but nothing better than that. Definately worth getting the ferry across into the town on an evening.

We stayed at the Hotel Istra during the last week in September and the first week in October. The hotel doesn't look very inviting as you approach, but is actually very nice. The location is superb, peaceful and beautiful Our room was comfortable and the whole hotel was spotless. We also really enjoyed the town of Rovinj - a tiny, walled mediaeval gem. All was wonderful, until the end of September. Unfortunately, this is when the holiday season ends in Croatia. travelling at the end of the season meant that we expected some of the restaurants to be closing, and things generally winding down. However, what we definitely did not expect was the hotel to suddenly change from a holiday hotel to a conference centre. There we were, wandering in from the pool to the only bar open by then in the lobby to get a cooling drink, to find ourselves surrounded by display boards and conference delegates in business dress. Embarrassing to say the least. Then we were told that our dining time was reduced to an hour, added to which the choice of food went right down. All in all, it ruined the end of what would otherwise have been a magical holiday. To sum up - go to this hotel by all means, but NOT at the end of the season.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view
