“Only four star view, not four star quality”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2012

We stayed at the Park for six nights in August. On arrival we were offered one of the rooms I had originally asked for (Room No 208) which was a good start but when we asked for help with our bags we were told by the gentleman that because he was on his own at reception there was no help available.....(!)
Room was very basic, yes the view is very good but this hotel should not base its reputation on this alone. The curtains were stained and the room was very warm even though the air conditioning was 'working' (i.e making noise). We thought this may be because the air conditioning had just been turned on so we tried to ignore the uncomfortable heat as we got ready to go out.
However.... when we returned that night, the room was like a furnace. I telephoned reception and firstly asked for the wifi password to be told that there was a charge for internet connection!!! After travelling through Slovenia and Italy, this was the first time we were charged for internet connection, so this was not good.....
Lucca (the gentleman at reception) was very abrupt when I asked about this, rude even so I decided to question him about the air conditioning. He said there was no one available to fix it. I then said that I wanted to move rooms immediately and would be in reception to sleep if he did not deal with this. He hung up the phone and came up to the room. The heat was now causing him to sweat openly, yet he waved his arms frantically in front of the air conditioning machine and said it was working fine! There was a noise coming from the machine but it was very obvious that it was not working correctly.
Lucca then said that he likes to sleep with the windows open and suggested we do the same! When we said we were not paying over €180 per night to sleep with the windows open he became rude and spoke over us as we tried to explain that this was not good enough from this hotel. We felt that the air conditioning should have been checked before we checked in that afternoon, to which he replied 'do you think I'm physic'?.
Due to the fact that we would not sleep in this room, we were eventually moved to another room and returned to our original room the following morning (air conditioning was now working correctly) This episode was handled dreadfully by the hotel. Even when we spoke to reception the following morning, we received no apology.
Breakfast is vast but not in a good way - just the madness of it all was not always welcome first thing in the morning.
The walk to Lone Bay is great and this is a great place to hang out during the day, wonderful shade under the trees and you can rent out sunbeds for 30kuna each for the day.
Rovinj is beautiful and we would love to return but we would NOT stay at Hotel Park. It relies only on its location and everything else falls short. Even on check out, the girl in reception never inquired if we enjoyed our stay, or thanked us..... Very impersonal, not really caring about their guests, just rolling holiday makers in, and rolling them back out without giving them the full experience. UNFORTUNATELY NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

I had a lovely holiday in Rovinj and I would have given the hotel a higher rating if it wasn't for the 2 big chimneys that are in the middle of the pool area, the fumes and smoke from the restaurant below the pool billow out of the chimneys from mid morning onwards, perhaps we were just unlucky but the smoke seemed to blow in our direction wherever we sat and towards the sea facing rooms, (photos attached ), as an asthma sufferer I would only go back if something is done about the smoke. The sunbathing area is important to us as there is no beach to use as an alternative. That said, the hotel is in a wonderful location with amazing views of Rovinj and the lovely harbour area. The rooms are quite basic but clean and you have everything you need. It was lovely to have breakfast outside and enjoy the view, the cooked breakfast was very greasy and not to my taste but there was plenty more to choose from. Dinner was good, particularly enjoyed the venison stew, and huge roasts on offer, different every day, lots of wonderful deserts too, you won't go hungry, but it does feel a bit canteen like and we wanted to leave as soon as we had eaten, so much nicer to eat out in Rovinj, very impressed with the town it is just so lovely to stroll down there on an evening. I think that the hotel could easily make some improvements to the pool area and if it does I shall consider staying there again.

Great hotel and confirm all that's been written. The best aspect is without doubt the view from the (seaview) rooms. The rooms are small and are now somewhat careworn. It's Thomson only from 2013 so maybe they will spend some money on it. Great friendly staff; food good too. Rovinj is a (relatively) undiscovered gem. Beer's cheap (1.80 /pint). And not a mozzy in sight

Room Tip: always pay the extra for a sea view -you wont regret it

Superb location, fantastic hotel and staff and unspoilt Croatia at its best. This was my first visit to Croatia and I have nothing but high praise for this location. Right onto to the beach ( you will need reef shoes as it is stoney), a 10 minute walk into the pituresque old town which has a restaurant area and a bar area. Food and drink is very cheap ( about £9 for a nice meal and £2 for a beer). Rooms are small, but then i do not want to spend my holiday in the room. The Hotel was spotless and the pool area was always kept clean and had plenty of sunbeds. The food served at breakfast and dinner was great and I certainly had no complaints,( remember to bring a pair of long trousers for dinner as there is a dress code).People are very friendly and I have saved the biggest praise for the Thompson Rep, who could not have been more delightfull. She is a credit to Croatia and Thompsons. Also thanks to Jugoslavia ( Fantastic lady in the restaurnant), and Ornellia ( who mixes a great cocktail). A great holiday.

Room Tip: You should not be spending too much time in youre room at this location. A room is a room. But I wou...

For a 3 star hotel, what a lovely holiday. Hotel very clean and the food was superb. Best position in Rovinj, we had a fantastic view overlooking the bay. Would definately recommend this. Plenty of choice at meal times and the drinks were very reasonable. The pool area was good and very quite to allow quality time to enjoy the sunshine.

Room Tip: Rooms a bit small and the airconditioning could have been cooler, but everything else was first clas...

Eight people went to this hotel on the 31st July to celebrate a friends 50th birthday, the hotel is lovely and has the best position of all the hotels in this area.A fantastic view across the bay/harbour to the beautiful town of Rovinj. We didnt have a sea-view room but that was fine as we dont spend much time in there anyway, the restaurant is very good and the food is excellent,we had a table reserved for us by the balcony and just admired the view and relaxed. The pool is very good so to is the gym if you can gather the energy to use it.The entertainment/aerobics in the pool mainly attended by women was led by an enthusiastic young guy and was fun to watch. The thomson rep ! speaks excellent english and is always on hand for any problems.Rovinj is very clean even though it was quite busy while we were there,we exchanged our money in the bank in town 9.333 kuna to the pound which was a better rate than England and paid on average15 kuna for a large beer,we were half board so didnt buy food out other thank a small snack but I would say its about 20% cheaper over there. We all enjoyed our holiday and would highly recommend going to Rovinj and Hotel Park.

Just got back from a 11 day stay at The Park with my wife and daughter. We had a suite with three bedrooms and a balcony overlooking the sea and a great view of the town so no complaints there ! There were three TVs - one in each room - even though we tend not to watch TV on holiday !
I would class this as more like a 4 -star hotel although if you wanted to be critical some of the rooms could probably do with some modernisation but I would say don't let that put you off.
The big factors with this hotel are it's excellent location and the views of both the sea/marina area and the old town. If you are not lucky enough to have a room with a sea view both the breakfast area and the pool offer fantastic views each day. Also being so well located the centre of Rovinj is just a short 15 mins walk into town with loads of restaurants ,cafes, shops etc on the way.Better to stay here than having to get a boat from the Istria or the Katarina in my view.
The breakfasts are plentiful with a special mention to the chef Yugoslavia who was always welcoming every morning and we would have a little chat as she cooked some eggs.
In fact all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly - again a special mention to young Ivan the pool/towel attendent - a very friendly and polite young man and a credit to the hotel
I think if you take everything into account this would be a good choice of hotel for couples or families of all ages.

Room Tip: Request a sea view - it's a must !
