We stayed at the Park for six nights in August. On arrival we were offered one of the rooms I had originally asked for (Room No 208) which was a good start but when we asked for help with our bags we were told by the gentleman that because he was on his own at reception there was no help available.....(!)
Room was very basic, yes the view is very good but this hotel should not base its reputation on this alone. The curtains were stained and the room was very warm even though the air conditioning was 'working' (i.e making noise). We thought this may be because the air conditioning had just been turned on so we tried to ignore the uncomfortable heat as we got ready to go out.
However.... when we returned that night, the room was like a furnace. I telephoned reception and firstly asked for the wifi password to be told that there was a charge for internet connection!!! After travelling through Slovenia and Italy, this was the first time we were charged for internet connection, so this was not good.....
Lucca (the gentleman at reception) was very abrupt when I asked about this, rude even so I decided to question him about the air conditioning. He said there was no one available to fix it. I then said that I wanted to move rooms immediately and would be in reception to sleep if he did not deal with this. He hung up the phone and came up to the room. The heat was now causing him to sweat openly, yet he waved his arms frantically in front of the air conditioning machine and said it was working fine! There was a noise coming from the machine but it was very obvious that it was not working correctly.
Lucca then said that he likes to sleep with the windows open and suggested we do the same! When we said we were not paying over €180 per night to sleep with the windows open he became rude and spoke over us as we tried to explain that this was not good enough from this hotel. We felt that the air conditioning should have been checked before we checked in that afternoon, to which he replied 'do you think I'm physic'?.
Due to the fact that we would not sleep in this room, we were eventually moved to another room and returned to our original room the following morning (air conditioning was now working correctly) This episode was handled dreadfully by the hotel. Even when we spoke to reception the following morning, we received no apology.
Breakfast is vast but not in a good way - just the madness of it all was not always welcome first thing in the morning.
The walk to Lone Bay is great and this is a great place to hang out during the day, wonderful shade under the trees and you can rent out sunbeds for 30kuna each for the day.
Rovinj is beautiful and we would love to return but we would NOT stay at Hotel Park. It relies only on its location and everything else falls short. Even on check out, the girl in reception never inquired if we enjoyed our stay, or thanked us..... Very impersonal, not really caring about their guests, just rolling holiday makers in, and rolling them back out without giving them the full experience. UNFORTUNATELY NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
