Stayed for a week at this hotel recently and it was worth every penny that we paid.

The hotel is just beautiful, very clean (rooms cleaned twice a day), the rooms are large and all have a sea view. The bathrooms are huge and lots of toiletries, fluffy towels, robes and slippers.

We went with Thomson and they had a half board offer on at the time we went so all Thomson guests had a set 5 course dinner menu (either fish or meat, no veggie option), the food was good if not always 5* and we only booked half board because of the v cheap offer but if you were on B/B and decided to eat in the hotel then you would have a different menu, and that menu was extensive and looked lovely. They have a large wine list, although not many wines by the glass, and their wines by the glass measures are much smaller than you would get in the UK. We tried the Croatian wine which was good.

Breakfast was buffet style and plentiful, everything you could wish for.

The pools were clean and a little chilly (didn't stop us swimming in them though) but one small pool is warmer than the others, plenty of loungers/umbrellas and towels. There is also free bike hire which plenty of people took advantage of. The hotel is right by a national park so lots of places to cycle or run and there are small rocky coves right by the hotel (no sandy beaches).

The Hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the centre of Rovinj which is very pretty and lots of winding streets and places to eat and drink.

We did a trip to Pula and visited the amphitheatre which is amazing and well worth the visit.

We would return to this hotel tomorrow if we had the chance, it really is one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. The service was great, friendly and we didn't have to say our room number after about the first day, so their attention to detail is second to none. The staff work hard to make sure your stay with them from the moment you check in to the moment you leave goes without a hitch and we loved every minute of it.

This hotel is a pearl. Everything is fantastic: the location, the swimming pools, the walking path to the town of Rovinj, the breakfast, the friendliness of the staff... simply everything is fantastic. Even dinner in the gastronomic restaurant is worth mentioning!

If you visit Rovinj, then book a room in this hotel. You will not regret it!

Oh yeah, my wife asks me to mention that the bathroom was superb

The Monte Mulini is without question one of the finest hotels I have ever stayed in. In a world where "it will do" seems to rule, it is refreshing to see a hotel that isn't scared to go a little beyond the norm to please its clients. From the moment you arrive, you are treated as if you are the only guest that matters...not that its over bearing or pushy...just right. Both restaurants are excellent with the Wine Vaults offering a very high standard of cuisine and local wines. Both are on the pricey side, but with Rovinj town centre being only a pleasant 10 minute stroll away, you are never short of places to eat at a reasonable price. Breakfast is a meal you ever want to end but as there is plenty to do during the day (walks, snorkelling, bike rides, swimming etc) you can always tear yourself away. A nice touch is the free bike hire for a tour around the beautiful town and surrounding coastline. The magnificent yacht that is owned by the hotel is also available for sunset crusies..an absolute must! Overall, a great place to stay and if, like me, you enjoy a holiday that isn't dominated by England football shirts and copies of the Sun..this could be for you.

After I forgot my girlfriends birthday last year I invited her to Monte Mulini this time. For me it was the second stay already and I am very positive and like to highly recommend this hotel. Everytime a pleasure, well managed, hot spot, looking forward to get back again.....

We pushed the boat our for our late summer holiday and booked the Monte Mulini. It truly is a stunning hotel in a stunning location. It really was better than expected. We had a standard double room, which by any other hotels standards would almost be a suite: Huge bed, lounge area, balcony overlooking the bay (all rooms have this and it is worth it), huge bathroom with dressing area, jacuzzi bath, separate toilet, separate rain shower and two basins. The room was cleaned twice a day and was always spotless. We slept so well here. The staff were all excellent, helpful and friendly. Pool area was again stunning - we really could not fault it. It's location is great - 15 mins to walk into Rovinj which opens up a whole host of dining opportunities and other activities. Right next to the hotel is a beautiful forest park - great for swimming in the crystal clear sea, jogging, walking or picnics.

Only one slight glitch in our week there, on a rainy morning, when the outdoor restaurant couldn't be used, there was a huge service issue with breakfast. But this was a glitch and we still say it was a very expensive hotel, but we feel it was worth every penny.

The waterfront location and the scenery from the balconies and the breakfast terrace are hard to beat, there's a sense of very high building quality and very friendly staff, but there were some big dips on the service performance that don't suit the rather high price tag that comes with this hotel. We had to wait 15 to 20 minutes to get some bottles of wine delivered to a meeting room late in the evening and the next day we waited more than one hour for the main course at lunch to show up, despite our repeated and clear guidance on the need for a quick lunch because of our continued business meeting. The explanation for these events must either be poor processes in the kitchen, lack of proper service training and attitudes in some of the personnel, and/or a possible broader national service issue around timelinness. The hotel is certainly not understaffed... At the same time the service level around breakfast was very good - in all fairness.

Otherwise I would in 2010 expect one of Croatia's best - and priciest - hotels to offer English-language newspapers in either the lobby, the bar, or in the hotel shop. Upon check-out I was told it was possible to order such newspapers but that was a bit late in the game. English wasn't the dominant global language on the hotel 's TV service either, the first of the rather few English-language channels was number 23 on the list.... Did globalization pass this hotel by?

A good way to combat service fatigue/frustrations is to go for a run or walk southwards along the outstanding coastline, along a very nice dirt/gravel trail.

Stayed her for a week with my wife and five year old daughter, and loved it. What a great hotel, one of the best locations we have every stayed in and continually found ourselves saying "breathtaking". . . Lovely rooms, but the best thing about this hotel is the location, and what a location it is. Rovinj is one of the most charming, idyllic places have ever come across. Great local food and surprisingly great local wine. Ok, so the pros of this hotel are:
Location, the hotel itself, proximity to town, great service. The cons were: A little too formal sometimes, for example the waiting staff wearing white gloves to serve your breakfast was for us a little too much. We were the only other British speaking family which is fine is you can put up with the brashness of the Germans and Russians.

Overall will definitely be going back to this one.
