“Huge Waterfront Beach Resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2013

Rovinj, Croatia is a charming seaside town on the northern peninsula sitting very near the borders of Italy, Slovenia, and Austria. The scenery and ambience are spectacular, definitely worth a visit. The Amarin Resort is not in the historic city center but it is minutes away by car or ferry with picture perfect views of that very photogenic town. The property offers hotel rooms and apartments at this enormous and lovely resort. Amenities include a small market, 2 pools with a huge surrounding patio with chairs, restaurant, a couple of bars, picnic and children's play areas, bikes, poolside massage, and a large beachfront area. There were massive bouncing and climbing structures in the ocean for added water fun. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit that could sleep 5 total if you use the double bed in the living area, a full kitchen, 2 patios and one small bathroom. There was a table and 4 chairs with an umbrella on one patio. The kitchen was small but sufficiently stocked to make light meals including a coffee maker but lacked basic things like dish detergent, paper towels, salt, or coffee filters. The bathroom was really small and lacked toiletry items like you would normally find in a hotel. We had some difficulty getting the air conditioning on in the evening hours despite several attempts. I think they are programmed to turn off during the night, a practice that I've found common in most of Europe. The free wifi signal was too weak to use in our room so we bought minutes on a card and used the two computers in the reception area. Access to the resort is controlled by a guard and a gate. There is assigned covered parking but it was a lengthy distance to our unit even though we were allowed to come closer for loading/unloading. There were lots of families with small children on the property so apparently it is a good place for that but I was there for a completely different kind of vacation; I was part of a very large group attending the Croatia Salsa Festival. The Amarin was able to handle a huge number of adults dancing away long hours around the pool for several days. I think they did a fantastic job of accommodating such varied demands. Check-out time is at 10am. My request for a later check-out was given but for a considerable fee. Overall, I would stay here again but now I'm prepared for what to expect, hopefully, now you are too!

Room Tip: I don't think many, if any, of the rooms have much of a view. There are many trees which block...

I stayed at Amarin in June, 2013, and chose the Premium 6p. apartment together with a friend to visit the Croatia Summer Salsa Festival. The premium apartments are brand new, and still smelled of fresh paint. The 6p. apartment has two bedrooms; very comfortable for a party of up to 4 (two couples, family with kids). With 6, it might get a little tighter (there's one bathroom with one sink). Beds are on the harder side. Check in and check out were efficient. Cleaning service wasn't included in the price though.
Everything was clean and well equipped. Enough storage space, and essentials for cooking. Beach and pool are ok, if only a little crowded. It can be difficult to get sun loungers and the beach is pebbly, so bring thick beach mats. There's a lovely view of Rovinj from the beach. Haven't used the restaurant, so cannot comment on the food. Pizza's and sweet treats looked good though.
I'd recommend a car if you like to visit the surrounding area; Rovinj town is a 10 minute drive away.
Note that in late June / early July, the resort usually hosts the Croatia Summer Salsa Festival. A great party of you love to dance, but if you don't like salsa you might want to avoid Amarin during that time so make sure to check before you book for the 2014 season.

The Amarin resort is newly renovated and it surprized me pleasantly - so sweet & beautiful appartments with terraces, covered parking places. I was in clean cosy appartment studio for 2, with own fully equiped kitchen, terrace with furniture and sea view to the city Rovinj. The beach is near with amazing sea sidewalk. By the restaurant are swimming pools, mini golf, rent-a-bike. Helpful and kind stuff. the food in restaurant is good. Minus- wi-fi internet only around reception and restaurant. 5 km away from the city Rovinj. I will surely come back!

I've stayed here twice now, first time about 3 years ago, and the last time was August 2012. There's a few things you need to know about this place. Firstly, if you plan your trips well in advance they tend to do a 15% or 20% sale month whereby you can book any time in the year, so might be wise to look into this.
Secondly, your choice of accommodation could either be ok or pretty bad. They have 2 types of rooms available the "new" rooms (which are in most of the images on their website) or the older rooms and when I say old I mean it... The first year I stayed here and kind of wished I hadn't. It did take me back to being on a school camping trip where you go and stay in some old log cabin in the woods somewhere. Ok it was cheap but still, not great if you want some sort of comfort. But if you're on a tight budget then it would just pass. The "newer" rooms are still basic but much better than the old as in everything seems to work (like the shower) and you have a little more privacy, air con and also a small kitchenette if you want to cook for yourself. I took half board (breakfast and dinner) which is not too bad and bearable for a weeks stay. Can get a little repetitive but there is generally enough choice to have something different (every other day at least)
Thirdly, this whole property is quite big, having not only the new and old rooms but it also caters for caravans and camping, so as you can imagine it is a big hit with the families. It used to be a nudist resort but this has moved to the small beach to the north. There is a nice outdoor bar and small outdoor restaurant near this beach if you want a change to the resort food.
Overall this resort is ok, if you have kids in particular, and are on a budget then there are plenty of choices of accommodation. Also if you're into naturism then that beach is about 15-20 walk north along the beach or a 2min drive down the dirt road at the entrance to the resort. Don't walk along this road, you will either be hit by a car or choke to death on dust. Use the trail at the front of the resort to take you there. There are also ferries into the Town of Rovinj or as mentioned it's only a short drive away. The Town is beautiful and has some lovely restaurants and picture perfect scenery!!
You ideally need a car to stay here otherwise you will be paying for taxis or catching the ferry into town. So if you don't have a car I would suggest staying somewhere a little closer to the town itself. There's not a great deal to do at the property apart from spend the day at the beach and in the evening they have some entertainment but this is for kids only. They also have excursions and day trips. But mostly this is just a place to stay and lay on the (rocky/rock) beach all day.

I recently stayed at the Amarin Resort for 3 nights with several of my friends. Amarin Resort has apartments and tents for camping. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment. Two people were able to sleep in the bedroom and two of us slept on the fold out couch. The apartment had one bathroom, a small kitchen and patio. There was a television, but only one English-speaking channel was available. Our apartment was minimally decorated but overall clean and relatively comfortable. There is technically air conditioning, but it barely worked and would not allow us to set the temperature for anything below 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit) so it was quite warm and almost uncomfortable at night after spending a day in the sun. This would be my only real complaint. The apartment was only a short 5 min walk from the beach. From the beach you have a beautiful view of Rovinj across the water. Rovinj was easily accessible via water taxi ($4 each way) and the taxi ran about every hour. The beaches were rocky but had several parts that had small pebbles comfortable enough to lay out on all day. We ate breakfast at the hotel every morning and they provided traditional European breakfast staples (yogurt, eggs, toast, cheese, cold cuts, juice, & coffee.) Nothing too spectacular, but decent. We ate dinner at the hotel one evening and were surprised with the large & tasty buffet selection. The outdoor bar/restaurant by the water served good drinks and decent food (pizza, salads, etc.). There was a water slide and pool that was perfect for families with children. Amarin also had motor boats, paddle boats and sail boats for rent for reasonable prices. I personally don't think I would stay there again, but if you are looking for something affordable and family friendly, Amarin would be a decent choice.

Room Tip: Request a room/apartment on the second floor in order to open the windows at night without compromis...

Just came back from a family vacation in Croatia. Together with my mom we stayed at the Amarin Camping, considering coming again. Both Amarin animation crew, hotel stuff and facilities offered together with amazing Croatian nature, crystal clear sea and hospitality made our vacation unforgettable.
Amarin offers several types of accomodation: if you are travelling with a house-on-wheels, you can get a spot for your trailer among the rest, this area is separated from the apartments. Double-storeyd apartments are offered with 2* and 4*. Importantly to know that both 2* and 4* guests are dining together at the restaurant, the quality of food is very high and cousine is variable with fresh fruits and delicious deserts, ice-cream inclusive. NB: you have to pay for the drinks at the dinner, that is ok priced but you can save by saying "no".
Free animation is different for kids (called "Mini Club"), teenagers and grown-ups. Personally I loved aerobics in the open air at 9.30 every morning, stretching at 11.00, waterpolo in the open sea at 12.00, zumba at 16.oo and volley at 17.00. If you are travelling with kids, they will love Mini Club! Teenagers are offered water polo, volleyball, shooting and other stuff.
There was live music, cabaret, dancing every night from 8.30 till midnight.
Have seen many hotels during the excursions, that is one among few who has its own territory with a vast beach and access to the sea. You do not need to rent out a plastic bed or chair, there is plenty of shadow under the pine trees.
Stuff is very nice. I left my BlackBerry in the bed, a cleaning lady didnt notice it whe changing sheets. When I came up to a guy at reception, he gave a call asking to double check all the linens they've collected. My BB got returned the next day!
NB: stuff speaks English, German, Italian, Croatian and a Russian.
Guests are mostly from Germany, Italy, Croatia, Russia.
You can take a taxi boat for 3 EUR and it will bring you to the neighbour town Rovinj with lots of restaurants, shops, nice architecture etc. There is an option to take a bus for 1,5 to Rovinj and from there to any other city. Zagreb is highly recommendable! Plitvickie ozera national park is a must.
Both my Mom and me are very happy we chose Amarin. Enjoy!

We got unrenovated room with a standard lower than most cheap hotels. We where overcharged at check-out and when we complain to booking.com they produced a fraud invoice and told we where lying. Of the minor issues, it's no playgrounds for children and people working there are driving, in kamikazestyle, mopeds on small road where children are walking to the beach.

This should be a clear warning to stay away!
