My husband and I stayed at Casa Garzotto the first week of October and loved it. In the heart of Old Town just steps from the waterfront, this small, old guest house was delightful. The reception area is cozy with its stone walls and heavy beams, but features wireless internet access and its best asset, young Ivan, our gracious and hard-working host who tirelessly works at shuttling guests back and forth from the parking lot, parking cars, carrying luggage, taking care of business, and generally making everyone feel welcome until his day ends late at night. He does it very well. The main house has 4 rooms; we stayed somewhere in the middle up 2-3 narrow flights of steps which might be a challenge for some people. The room was large and filled with antique furniture, pictures, and chandeliers. It was welcoming, comfortable, and air conditioned. It had a kitchen and dining area which we didn’t really use because there was so much good, fresh seafood in Rovinj. The guest house is associated with a restaurant in a building a few steps away in the Old Town where Casa Garzotto has two larger rooms and a family apartment. A generous breakfast of meats, cheeses, breads, yogurt, etc is served here each morning; you can also get a great dinner here (Barba Zuane). I highly recommend this guest house, which is centrally located a short walking distance to everywhere you’d want to be in Rovinj.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the main house (unless you are traveling with a family or 2 couples). Ask for the low...

The location can't be beat. We stayed for two nights in the apartment above the restaurant and found it charming....we felt like we had our own little pied-de-terre in Rovinj. It was comfortable and spacious (just watch out for the step down from the bedroom....we moved a chair in front of it just to be sure we didn't trip). The air conditioning worked well and we had no problems with outside noise. The breakfast rooms were adorable and the food was delicious.
Service was phenomenal....Stevan met us outside the city, had us follow him in to the city, carried our luggage up to the room, then parked our car for us. He was one of the most pleasant, personable people we met on our trip.
I wouldn't hestitate to stay here again.

We stayed on the 4th floor of the Baldaur - definitely a room with lots of character and great location in the middle of the cobble-stoned alleyways of Rovinj. The room was clean, the mattress a bit lumpy but fine, the bathroom small with a shower that needed a good scrub. The street, luckily, was quiet at night other than a few voices from the cafes below. We did not have a TV and wi-fi was available only at the main hotel of Casa Garzotta.

The restaurant, around a few corners but part of Casa Garzotta, served good breakfasts (included) and great dinners - our seafood was excellent.

Signing out was a bit of a challenge - others have mentioned the conversion problems. It would have been much easier if everything was done in kunas - would have saved about 20 minutes plus extra time the next day when the checkout person couldn't remember that we had gone through it all the night before.

Ivan, who came and picked us up from the bus station and hauled our luggage up and down stairs, was the one who had the most positive influence on our stay....he was great and he seemed to be everywhere, always helping visitors.

So, all in all, excellent location, interesting room, but at 110 Euros, not great value.

Room Tip: The 4th floor of the annex was a real 'character' room but there were lots of narrow stairs...

The writers of travel guides need to give their heads a shake. Casa Garzotta did not have "old-fashioned charm with antique furniture" unless old Ikea is antique. I was given sheets that did not fit to make my own bed and there was no soap in the bathroom. This was a "sobe" masquerading as a 'boutique hotel" in order to justify the outrageous price, definitely NOT worth 70 euro a night and they don't take credit cards.

This quaint 'sobe' was perfect for our stay. Well located, a restored building that had worked hard to keep the original feeling of the place. Our room was spacious, clean and visually interesting. But best of all was the service from Stevan. He was the go to guy and never failed to ensure we were well served. From parking our car, guiding us into and out of the old town, dinner suggestions and providing bikes, he was the greatest. Such a friendly and outgoing fellow, he made our stay perfect.

We loved this hotel. Our room was spacious and super cute. Everyone was great, especially Steven, who led us into town when we arrived on his scooter and got our car in the mornings and parked it in the afternoons. I would definitely stay here again and Rovinj was a great homebase from which to explore Istria.

Finding our way to the hotel was a bit of a challenge but once we did, everything was great. We aren't sure we have ever met anyone as hard working or willing to help as Stevan is and we hope he knows we appreciated every single gesture. We seemed to be much needier in Rovinj than anywhere we've been and Stevan was always willing to drop what he was doing to help us out. You rarely see that kind of service anywhere anymore. We had a suite and loved the room and the ladies in the breakfast restaurant were so wonderful to visit with every morning. We really felt like we had friends while we were in Rovinj and later, we wished we had spent more time there. You can't go wrong with Casa Garzotto!!
