What a surprise to find that there was no admission charge on the day we were there. I'm not sure if this is always the case. Also can't figure out why, on a Saturday afternoon the place was empty. Beautifully laid out, first you walk through gardens, and soon come across parrots which then leads you to all sorts of other South American animals. After coming off a Galapagos tour one feels that having these animals not exactly in their natural setting is very wrong, however, they were nice to look at. The jungle unwinds into a few colonial buildings and then to herb and vegetable gardens. It was a great place to spend an hour or two, while outside it feels cooler amongst the foliage. warning:we did find it very mosquito invested;take bug spray.

I thought this would be a "nature reserve" but it is really just a zoo. The animals are crazy and miserable in their tiny enclosures, it depressed me.

Enjoy a very nice walk taking in the view of local wildlife, plants and vegetation. Best to ask for a guide to explain more about the ambiance-it makes it even more interesting. Bug repellent is recommended and I definitely recommend trying one of the typical refreshing juices they sell along the walk.

Historical buildings were literally transported there. Excellent opportunity to get an idea of how Guayaquil looked like in the 19th century.

If you want to know about the beginnings of Guayaquil, this is a great place to start. Here you can find animals, plants and typical architecture of this part of the world.

You will begin walking in the middle of the "manglar" watching animals including monkeys and crocodiles. Then you will arrive to a boardwalk where old parts of Guayaquil were rebuilt to make you feel like in 1900. Then you can stop for a snack. I recommend the juices. They are natural and are great. Also try the empanadas and sprinkle them with sugar. You won't regret it.

Then, you can visit the hacienda part or the park where you will see a typical farm and if you are lucky a little show were they represent a day in a hacienda in the 1950´s. There you have cacao and plantains plantations.

It is a good way to spend part of your day and now is free.
