We stayed at the Hostal Tangara several days on a trip to Guayaquil and really enjoyed it. There is a kitchen unit and laundry service along with wifi. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and even made reservations for us on the coast for whale watching. The rooms are quaint and each has hand-painted decorations on the walls. We enjoyed the location and could walk to almost all of the sites we wanted to hit during the day. The one catch was that the planes fly pretty low over the hostal. We cut out the noise by turning on the air conditioning the next night.

A great location, conveniently close to the Malecon de Salado with friendly, english speaking staff, spacious rooms with working air condition, great showers. The neighborhood is secure and a taxi ride to the center takes only 10 Minutes. Not to forget the fast Wlan-connection .....
Thoroughly recommended!

We needed a place to stay on a recent trip to N.Peru and someone to provide safe transport to border where we were to meet our Peruvian host. This was a round trip flying into Guayaquil and likewise departing from there as well. Antonio arranged for a very late arrival at Guayaquil Airport with transport to Tangara Guest House and an early departure by private vehicle to Peru border. Our plans required the reverse for our departure flight a week later. Antonio and his staff were exceptional in their emails, replies and in handling our needs. We were treated with a very comfortable and clean place to stay with everything in order. On the return leg of the trip the Tangara staff directed us to a very good restaurant within 2-3 blocks which we walked to after dark. We felt quite safe in this University neighborhood. After our meal we walked down to the Malecon another 3-4 blocks and watched a beautiful light show over the water. Next A.M. we returned to the Malecon at sunrise and enjoyed the spectacular gardens and plantings in the park. Ready to go back!

I had the pleasure of staying overnight in this hostel on my way to the Galapagos Islands. Everything there is giving you a welcome feeling. From the friendly reception to the the total atmosphere of the place.
The only thing they could improve a little would be the lighting in the room. It was very dim and makes reading very difficult.
In any case, I can definitely give the TANGARA a high rating!

I stayed one night at the Tangara upon arrival by plane in Guayaquil. Hotel staff met me at the airport, providing a hassle-free transfer to the hotel. The staff is courteous and attentive.

The room was simple, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good: fresh fruits, eggs made to order, etc. The location is near the Universidad de Guayaquil. The building itself is very non-descript, should one prefer to maintain a low profile.
