My husband and I were invited by a neighbor to accompany him on his weekly trek to Otavalo for pizza. We headed out via bus and took the short walk to Dona Esters. I liked the place as soon as I walked in. The atmosphere is quaint. They was a large party of 19 already seated. That would have overwhelmed most small establishments. However, we were waited on promptly and our order was ready very quickly. Dona Esters offers a nice variety of both traditional and non-traditional pizzas. I had the gorgonzola pizza, which was very good. My husband ordered the Pizza Margharita with the addition of ham. He also liked his. Our neighbor said the pizza weren't up to their usual standard. He could see from the open kitchen that they had a new cook. The crust was a tad undercooked, but the flavor was very good. I will definitely be back once the new cook gets a little practice at the oven. We stopped by the kitchen on the way out. The cook was not busy. I had a few questions about the oven, since we have just had a brick oven built on our patio. He was very friendly and showed me how it all worked. He said the pizzas only stay n the oven for about 30 sends, because of the intense heat (about 800F degrees). It was a great meal and a great learning experience.
