This is a small hotel with a good location and good value. The accomodations are very clean and all the staff is very helpful. One draw back is that most rooms have only a window that looks on to the hallway where other guests walk. There is a restaurant in the hotel but I did not eat there.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room

Otalavo has many hotels so you may no doubt find a cheaper deal. For 26$ a couple you get a decent looking room with a wardrobe, bedside tables and tv. The shower is fine and the room is kept clean.
The staff are young. The female receptionist was cheerful and organized. The hotel seems to have a policy of locking the front door when no one is on the front desk. Fair enough but everytime we returned to the hotel we had to wait- several times for the one receptionist who prefered to chat to his mate rather than wait at the front desk.
The Internet doesn't reach all rooms but is quick enough to upload photos quite fast. Having rejected a room because the window backed onto the restaurant, We didn't see anyone use the area.
It has a good location for walking from where the bus drops people on Pan America but is a good 20 minute walk to the main bus terminal.
So overall, decent enough but cheaper, better value for money options are available.

After having run around Otavalo looking for accommodation, and finding severely overpriced hostels geared towards foolish tourists, we stumbled across this absolute gem of a place. Hotel Santa Fe is owned by a local family who lives in a house at the back- they are super friendly and helpful, and willing to negotiate discounts for a longer stay. They do only speak Spanish but ours is not great and we managed to get by. The dueno even recommended a great mechanic who fixed our van up perfectly!

The rooms vary but are all very comfortable, with hot water, cable TV and great Wifi, and a plus point for us was their very secure parking area. They also have computers for Internet use. You get new towels every day if you're into that sort of thing, and your room is cleaned daily unless you ask for otherwise. The mattresses were perfect for us, nice and firm, and lovely pillows with extra wooly blankets if needed. Breakfast is not included but you can have it at the restaurant downstairs or cheaply at the market nearby. Everything is walking distance. We always felt secure here; for the most part it was quiet, and private.

We ended up staying for over a week and returned here after a bad experience in Quito to get repairs on our van, because we felt it was the safest place. After a bit of negotiation, we paid $20 for a private ensuite double- helps if you stay longer.

We highly recommend this hotel- don't be scared away by its nice looking reception, it is NOT expensive compared to other places (Hotel Otavalo down the street which doesn't look much nicer is twice the price, Hotel Sucre Riviera has character but is also more expensive and a few other hostels in town are charging $25-28 a night for terrible rooms, and other cheaper places don't have Wifi).

Enjoy your stay- we did!

After an unfortunate stay at another hotel/hostal a block away (and reviewed separately, see my other reviews), I walked down the street and found this hostal. This hostal/hotel is a great option. Rooms and hotel were basic but reasonably modern, especially for a smaller town in Ecuador. They used a general motif of the rugs/weavings/tapestries being sold in the streets and in the market in Otavalo. Staff was pleasant, though spoke little to no English. Room was clean and water was hot for showers. Room also included cable television, with at least 1 or 2 English speaking stations. The best part is I received a better quality room for less money than my other experience (and I'd expect you can too). Save those dollars for bargaining on the street for goods (and if you bargain with the many vendors on the street, you can find better deals). Hotel does not include breakfast but is available in the restaurant in the hotel (or nearby) for an inexpensive price.

You will need to climb stairs to get to your room and, like much of South America (in my experience), not terribly soundproof. If street noise is a concern, I would at least ask for a room not facing the street.

Location is convenient being just a block or so from the Plaza Bolivar, and just a few more blocks from the main square for the market. Otavalo is a small town overall so you should have little problem walking. If you really don't want to walk, however, taxis are available at $1/ride.

Perhaps the only downside was the bed was a little firm for my taste. That said, I paid only $13/night. To get a room that is reasonably safe, clean, with a fairly modern bathroom, and conveniently located, I'm not sure you can complain too much.

Perhaps this little hotel is less expensive as they are an unknown gem, as compared to other hotels that have been around longer. It is very difficult to find much information on this hotel online. In fact, when I was searching for some type of address for this review, I happened to luck out and find a reference to the hotel as part of another persons blog. However, the phone number should be accurate as I took it off the front of the hotel off the picture I took of the hotel. If I had an email address, I would definitely email them to encourage them to explore ways to better market their property.

Check this hotel out. Call if you speak fluent Spanish, or just stop in. It did not appear you'll have a problem with a walk-in reservation.
