Going anywhere by motorized transport in Quito on a Friday is a traffic nightmare. It took over an hour by taxi to go a few miles to the Ofelia bus station from downtown Quito. Ofelia is where you get the bus for Otavalo. We stood in line with hundreds of other people for 1 1/2 hrs. for a bus before deciding to suck it up and get a taxi. Even so, we didn't arrive in Otavalo until 10:30 PM. We had reservations at Hotel Acoma but worried about the room being held, because we couldn't call ahead of time being too cheap to get a cell phone we could use in Ecuador. To our relief, the room was still ours, the desk clerk was friendly, and the room was clean and inviting. I'd give it 5 stars, but the room was small and there was not much storage space.
