we were impressed by the beautiful artistic things made in this weaving workshop directed by Don Miguel, a well known and respected man in the traditional weaving community. Don Miguel and his family follow the ancient tradition, everything is hand made using pure products from nature. The designs often use traditional symbols and patterns. Don Miguel is a kind man and he explains his weaving also in English. Adjacent to the weaving workshop is a shop where you can buy some of the beautiful things - you are not obliged. The products are hand made and artistic- unlike many or most things on the local markets - accordingly the prices are higher. There are some fantastic wall carpets!

Our visit to the weaving workshop of Miguel Andrango was one of the most special experiences in our travels in Ecuador. We love art and Miguel is a rare artisan. We found his weavings to be extraordinary for their beauty, craftsmanship, and detail. Visiting his workshop provided a trip back in time as he demonstrated all the traditional techniques used to work with raw wool, spin it into yarn, and weave it into beautiful art using a back strap loom while sitting on the floor of his workshop. Whether you just want to learn about traditional spinning and weaving techniques, or you are a collector of fine weavings and tapestries, a visit with Senior Andrango at his workshop is a very special opportunity.

Miguel is unique in his original weaving. Each piece that he creates is art. There seems nobody anymore who makes materials in this way. A must to see (and buy). He is also very friendly and patient explaining his technique and how he gets from the raw materials to the end product. The day we came, he was suffering from a bad tooth ache, but that did not inhibit him to express his art in great detail.

Miguel is a wonderful person and master weaver. His demonstrations of the process he does step by step is fantastic. His artistic products are sold at fair trade. The quality is the best we saw in Ecuador. Wanted to put this man in my pocket and bring him home.
