My first visit to Hacienda Pinsaqui was memorable, so I was hoping that more than 10 years later it would not disappoint. It did not! This is a magnificent hacienda in a beautiful setting, with friendly and helpful staff. I heard a guest complaining about her room in the annex, but we were in the main building and had no complaints, even if the the shower temperature was "iffy." Dining room would not be my first choice for dinner, but was acceptable and, contrary to another guest review, we found nothing wrong with the breakfasts.

A word of warning: if you are looking for luxury, first-rate and modern accommodations (with a price to match), don't stay here. But, if you are looking for a unique place -- with character, history and good value -- make a reservation and take some time to take it all in. Did not go horseback riding this time, but on previous visit it was a highlight of our stay.

Room Tip: Reserve a room in the main building. Rooms are huge, with high ceilings and lots of character.

This was a good stay in a well kept hacienda, with friendly and helpful staff and lovely grounds. The room (we stayed in the main building) was large, the bathroom a little quirky (but in keeping with the age of the place!), but the great part was the log fire, lit every night for us, plus the hot water bottles in the bed. It wasn't even so cold, but made for a cosy feel to the place. In fact, a fire would be lit for you anywhere you went in the communal areas in the evening! And we enjoyed our meals in the restaurant. To be recommended.

Stayed one night while touring Ecuador. All other guests were German, about 20+ following same itinerary.
Attractive grounds gave a good first impression. No television or internet so attended welcome drink. Owner said a few words, emphasising the history. In fact little remains of the Hacienda visited by Simon Bolivar as it was later demolished by an earthquake.
Welcome drink was a small amount of colourless liquid. Guests were wearing ski jackets and a shot of local brandy would have been more appropriate.
A good breakfast helps cope with the altitude and temperature changes. Breakfast here appalling. No buffet as tables set with butter, jam and bread. Spirals of soft butter on a metal dish and an anonymous type of jam. Stale bread and not even a decent cup of coffee. Our worst meal in Ecuador.

It was hard to find and a bit secluded location, but all is forgotten as you drive in. The buildings and setting is lovely. The restaurant has good food, a bit pricey though. Best was the daily delivery of the hot water bottles.
Lovely grounds and horse tiding redding are also available.

An extraordinary place. Bags of history (Simon Bolivar was a regular visitor) and a lovely garden, in a peaceful location out of town, and still owned and run by the original family whose current head gave us a welcome talk on the first night. The trouble is, the family clearly know nothing about running a hotel and they have not invested in any modernisation whatsoever. The rooms are vast - and freezing cold. They have open log fires in each room which the staff will willingly light for you, using a generous splash of diesel fuel to get them going (no - I am not kidding) and they put hot water bottles in the beds. You pretty much are forced to eat in their restaurant unless you have your own transport into town or want to get a cab (which can be done) but the food varies from poor to unimaginative. Despite all this it was a brilliant experience for one or two nights, but at least go with your eyes open. This is billed as a 4 star hotel by some companies - which it is not.

Amazing 300 yr old hacienda. Not a lot of modern conveniences, but everything needed for a wonderful family stay. The staff is very helpful and hardworking. The owner is always overseeing meals, etc. and wants to make sure you are comfortable. The rooms are huge and homey. There is nothing like coming back to your room with a blazing fire in the wood stove and a hot water bottle heating up your bed! These simple touches make this hotel a cozy vacation spot. The grounds are lovely with horses and peacocks roam the courtyard that overlooks some of the rooms. The food is very good too! A must place to stay! Beds are comfortable and location is in the country so it is quiet - slept really well here.

Our stay at Hacienda Pinsaqui was very nice. The staff catered to every needle had Special touches like gorgeous fresh roses in your room to warming the beds with hot water bottles for the cold nights, and lighting your room's fireplace for your bedtime are just a few of the special treats. The grounds were well maintained with plants unique to Ecuador highlands.
We were met by the owner when we arrived and he checked on us daily to see that we had a good experience.
When he found out that my daughter was a volunteer in Ecuador he offered the organization huge discounts for their future stays there.
I loved this hacienda and plan to go back soon!

Room Tip: We had Simon Bolivar room- it was lovely!
