It's easy to spend hours exploring the amazing textiles and gardens at Hacienda Cusin. Truly an inspiring and relaxing space. The staff are inviting and always willing to help. Take time to indulge in the art, the collection is lovely.

Thank you for such extraordinary appreciation of Hacienda Cusin's art collections and gardens.
Your advice to 'take your time' for such diverting collections that Cusin has is highly valued. I hope that you will return again soon!

I had a wonderful vacation. I took several day trips, including hiking, horseback riding, and the Otavalo market. The grounds are beautiful and you can easily pass a day reading outside.
The fireplace in my room and hot water bottle in bed made for the best sleep I've had in a long time. They arranged a great galapagos trip and a stay in the cloud forest at El Refugio as well. I was scheduled to fly back to the states but extended my trip after the galapagos so I could have a few more days at Cusin.

Room Tip: let them know if you need a room close to internet access. I chose a room away from internet so I c...

Thank you for such an appreciative review, especially regarding Reception's management of your Galapagos and cloud forest lodge tours.

It seems that your appreciation increased with the length of your stay! La Familia de Cusin were so inspired by your comments.

I recently stayed at the Hacienda with my daughter. The setting is spectacular and the grounds couldn't be nicer. The architecture is interesting, and the decor in public areas is as typically over-the-top opulent old Spanish as you could want. However, it is badly in need of updating. Electrical and plumbing systems are ancient. Furnishings are old, worn, uncomfortable, and almost moldy as it can be very wet there. Our biggest problem was with the room. Although the hacienda wasn't close to full, they placed us in a room whose windows opened to the chimney from the fireplace below, which of course brought smoke into our room. They said no one had ever said that before. Go figure..... In addition to not being able to open our windows, the toilet didn't work, there was no hot water at night, and it had to be run for a long time to get any in the morning. Once we did, there was not enough water pressure to get any cold water mixed with it. Finally, the food as the restaurant was the hands down the worst food we had in Ecuador where we had been so pleasantly and consistently pleased with our meals. If you want a hacienda experience, I suggest you try someplace other than Cusin

Room Tip: It's hard to say because it depends of the time of year. Although I imagine they all need updat...

Thank you for taking time to appreciate Cusin's grounds and its spectacular ambience and to express your opinions. Your observations will put all staff on their toes! But I am unsure as to how an antique collection in a restored, early 19th century home could be updated!

It was unfortunate that you arrived during heavy rain and wind. After hearing of your difficulties, with antique furnished room, Sierra 3 and its new bathroom, Valeria offered you a much larger room (16), with a fireplace and private garden door, and other guest rooms, which you declined.

I am sorry that Cusin was such a disappointment and fortunate that your daughter expressed her thorough enjoyment of her stay at Cusin.

Really enjoyed our experience at Hacienda Cusin. Excellent hospitality and dining experiences during the stay. Discrete staff always eager to assist and offer advice. It is cool here in the mountains so be prepared. No central heating which is really no big deal. It is also a couple of miles outside the town so a tad inconvenient when it comes to dining options. The food and service in the restaurant is excellent. Our heater in the room was replaced once but we had another anemic replacement. Kind of laughable and makes for a fun story. All in all a good experience.

We stayed 2 nights at Hacienda Cusin in mid-March. It was fantastic. It’s location, about an hour from the new Quito airport and about 10 minutes from the market town of Otavalo, is very convenient. The grounds, vegetable gardens, common rooms, and monastery all contribute to the experience of stepping back several hundred years into the midst of colonial life. Nik has put together a masterpiece with an extremely friendly and competent staff, authentic furnishings, and a superb kitchen. On my next trip to Ecuador, I plan to acclimate to the high elevation while enjoying the ambience of Hacienda Cusin for 4 or 5 days. Don’t miss it.

actually stayed here a few years back to horseride for a week after visiting the galapagos & amazon for a few weeks... charming atmosphere stays loyal to the time period the hacienda was constructed... onsite restaurant food was convenient and good local cooking... room was very clean, charming and had a working fireplace so i had a fire most nights... the guide, horses & tack were very good, scenery was of course incredible... i did about four 5 hour rides, then, i don't know if it was the high altitude but my knees became very painful... who knows, they're ok now... easy access by taxi to quito and oltovalo... gorgeous gardens & grounds...

Hacienda Cusin is filled with fabulous surprises: beautiful gardens, frequent hummingbird sightings, grazing llamas, evening eucalyptus fires in the fireplaces, hot water bottles in your bed, hidden doorways to secret towers, delicious meals, fascinating decor, and more. The staff was always very helpful and friendly; we were lucky enough to meet the owner as well, who shared many interesting stories about the history of the place and how it came to be what it is today. The only thing that was a problem for me was that I couldn't eat all that was served for their amazing breakfasts! :) Hacienda Cusin a great, relaxing place to stay -- I highly recommend it!
