We spent just a night here but if i could i would stay longer. The place has a very good energy, there is history and charm in every corner. I felt like i just got home. The fire place in the room, the hot water bag, the dogs, everything was perfect. We had dinner and the food was good. The breakfast is average ecuadorian. I would come back again. The wifi only works near the reception.

Hacienda Cusin is the best accommodation in the northern province Imbabura. The wide offer of leisure activities (from wellness to adventure rides) and its central location near the main tourist attractions makes this place a perfect match to either a long weekend or a 2 months stay.
Myself (Ecuadorian) and my guests from Europe were overwhelmed by the colonial value of Cusin, the uniqueness of the rooms and the good service.
We enjoyed :
Accommodation, restaurant, horse riding, trekking path, fire place, gardens.

Everything was excellent, we really recommend Hacienda Cusin!

Hacienda Cusin is peaceful, with beautiful gardens and tons of history. The dining room and main house are gorgeous and in great shape, but other parts (including our room and the game room) were somewhat worn around the edges. Wifi was terrible. However, we didn't go to Ecuador to play ping pong or read emails, and the lovely setting more than made up for it. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Thank you for taking time to write a review and for including appreciation of Cusin's staff, history and decor. Countryside Wifi can sometimes be slow and Ecuador and Cusin are constantly making internet improvements.

Yes, an old, large and often busy property such as Cusin can appear worn. Cusin spends much of August and September annually upgrading bathrooms and guest rooms.

If you are looking for some peace and quiet go here. We spent a few days here just lounging around in the gardens and horse riding. To get to Otavalo the staff will call a taxi which costs around $5 for 15 minutes. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are pretty nice. There is also a monastery nearby and plenty of walks which are also worth a look. The staff are pretty friendly and gave us hot water bottles at night. There is not much heating in the room but the blankets are very warm and I didn't really need the bottle. If you like peace and quiet in the countryside and early nights this is the place for you.

Thank you for your appreciative and informative review and important suggestion for guests to explore the Monasterio. I'm sorry that you felt the cold and wonder if you informed Reception of such - every room has an electric heater and the vast majority of rooms have log-fires.

Beautiful hotel with lots of history. The owner gave us a bit his story with the hotel while the guest enjoyed hot tea service. The grounds were beautiful. Each room was slightly different from each other. My family had 4 rooms, and each room had a lovely fireplace and we did use it. The kids thought it was awesome to have a fireplace going in the middle of July! Breakfast was elegant and was full waiter service. Dinner was nice, but portioned for a child, especially the spaghetti. We had to order double portions for my growing boys.
We sat in the gardens and just enjoyed the peace and nature. No television and spotty Wi-Fi, so this is definitely a hotel to disconnect with electronics.

Our merry band of travelers spent a night and a couple of meals at Hacienda Cusin in June. It was delightful. The food is excellent and oh... the gardens. Our kids went horseback riding and the adults took the opportunity relax, read and catch up on a little business.

However it is a bit cold and a bit pricey. The hot water bottle in the bed is a nice touch. Nice to chat with the Anglo-American owner. Great staff who will start a fire in the library or lounge if asked. Nice place to scout around Otavalo and Cotacachi and the environs.

Thank you for your review. The costs of creating and maintaining such a large and ancient property are considerable!
