“Very nice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

Recommended by a friend, and I wasn't disappointed. Maggie and the staff were great. We were able to book transportation through La Posada for arriving and departing that was safe, friendly, and clean. The hot water system has been updated... there is plenty and it is HOT. (and no electric showerheads!) A nice thing after traveling much of the country. As others have mentioned, the location is fantastic, a few blocks to the Plaza de Ponchos, a few more to the bus terminal that can take you to nearby cities for $0.25-0.50 per person.
The restaurant served fantastic food. Our only negative was the menu was very North American, but upon reflection, this is a good thing. If you want to experience the local flavor, there are restaurants throughout the city (I recommend wandering away from the touristy areas for authentic food at locals' prices,) but if your tummy is less adventurous than your mind, a familiar menu is a comforting thing at the end (or beginning) of the day.
Bottom line: I will recommend La Posada del Quinde to friends, and will stay there again if my travels take me back to Otavalo.

We were in Otavalo so I could visit the market, and I loved this hotel. Nice rooms, beautiful building, wonderful staff and lovely gardens. It can be chilly there, and they had a fire in the fireplace in the common lounge area that was very welcome. The proprietors were friendly and helpful. and the local staff was great. Good food in the restaurant, including quinoa llapingachos, a first for me. I hope to return someday!

We stayed here on our trip to Otavalo. Our trip started off great! They picked us up at the airport in a very nice/clean/new truck. The driver was very safe and friendly, a fantastic welcome!

The room is actually the downside for me, so I'll start here. There is no safe in the room, so you have to carry your valuables with you to the market...call me crazy, but carrying all my valuables around in the largest market in South America just seems insane... ***Posada - please put safes in the rooms!!!***
Second room comment - they are very outdated...very old style bedding, old style bathroom and shower. Not my favourite.
On the bright side, they did have hot water, and lots of it (but you have to run it for a long time to get it to heat up at first)
Also, it gets very cold here at night, so it was good that they had a heater in the room.

What brought this hotel up for me was:
- the restaurant. One of the best. Everything we ate at the restaurant was amazing. Delicious options (and tons of vegetarian options!!) Fresh juice, delicious coffee, and amazing food.

- the lobby/relax area. Reading material, boardgames, and an internet computer all sit near couches, loungers, and a beautiful fireplace. A nice place to relax.

-the garden. There is a gorgeous large garden area in the back where you can sit out or just walk around. Nice place to enjoy a drink or coffee or snack.

-the staff. The staff here was great. We had pre-booked a tour with a guide for the city. The staff helped us to re-confirm our tour the day before. Then, the day of, the tour agency just didn't show up. The staff called them. Then when they still didn't show up after that, the tour company just stopped answering their phones!! The staff at the hotel then decided to help us out and called around and got a friend with a business to come by, pick us up and take us around instead!! The price was better and this guy helped us out at the last minute. Amazing. We really appreciated the hotel staff going above and beyond to make sure our visit was saved!!

- Location - extremely close to the market!! We walked :)

Thank you very much for your review! We greatly appreciate the time our guests take to leave their comments and are grateful for your feedback. It thrills us to know that you enjoyed the garden, our service and our fireplace lounge.

I would like to offer some clarification just so our prospective guests are aware. First, we do indeed offer a safe at reception where guests can keep any valuable belongings so as not to have to carry them to the market. Second, our hot water system was recently updated and we now offer recirculation of hot water throughout the hotel so that guests do not have to wait long for a nice, hot shower.

We are in currently in the process of updating our rooms and bathrooms, and have started by adding black-out curtains in the bedrooms and replacing bathroom tiles, windows and bathroom fixtures. If you are ever back in the area, we invite you to come see the changes that we are making.

Again, thank you very much for having taken the time to leave your comments. We take our guests' comments and criticisms to heart and, thanks to the feedback we have received, we are constantly finding ways to make people's stays even more comfortable. We wish you all the best in your continued travels!

I visit Otavalo twice a year and always choose Posada del Quinde. I greatly appreciate the staff's warm welcome, clean & comfortable accommodations, internet access, and assistance making arrangements for a private driver for sightseeing or day trips, and even a massage therapist who comes right to my room. Their location is optimal - it is also only a short walk from the beautiful tranquility of their backyard garden to the outdoor markets for which Otavalo is renown. When I'm tired after a busy day hiking, sightseeing, shopping or visiting friends, it is wonderful to relax with glass of wine or beer in front of their roaring fire and have the convenience of dinner at 'home'. Don't pass up on their fabulous Pachamama breakfast & delicious coffee that come with the room. Maggie (owner) and Susy (manager) are dedicated to making their guests' stay memorable. I can't wait to return!

La Posada del Quinde served as a home away from home during my stay in Ecuador. The stunning view, beautiful garden and homey atmosphere in and of itself made an impression. However, it was the owner and staff that made all the difference. I've traveled to several countries, have stayed at many lovely places and have made friends at each location, but none like those at La Posada del Quinde. Not only are they welcoming, but they are dedicated to making your stay the best that it can be by arranging transportation, recommending sites to see, asking how they can be of assistance and by taking the time to get to know each and every visitor. While all of this is above and beyond, what made the greatest impression on me was how involved Maggie and Carol are in the local community. Maggie essentially "gives" her hotel to at least one volunteer organization a couple of times a year, providing people from all over the United States a place to stay while in Ecuador. Moreover, they both volunteer with this program as well as with at least one local school. It's these qualities and actions that influence the atmosphere at La Posada del Quinde, making it a genuine, open-minded, caring place to be.

This place made us feel right at home, from their Maggie Pizza to their sweet little pup named Pacha. The rooms are spaceous, clean and have great water pressure and temperature (as we toured around Ecuador, this lacked in a lot of the places we stayed). The grounds are beautifully groomed and inviting. Even the lounge felt like home with a big fire place, comfy couches and a walk-up bar. The prices are very reasonable for this little slice of heaven, you must check it out. We even extended our stay, becuase it was just perfect for us and conveniently located near the textile market. The staff will definatly take care of you here, so plan to get spoiled! The art work is also wonderful and for sale, so don't be afriad to ask how much, VERY reasonable price as well (as 100% of the profit goes back to the artist) and most of it was created by local artist. This place has so much character, you would be missing out if you came to Otavalo and didn't stay here.

Room Tip: We stayed on the ground floor right off the lounge/restaurant and it was perfect for early/late walk...

This is quite a belated review but one that I have been meaning to write sine my Mum and I visited in March. The hotel itself is lovely with pretty gardens, nice simple rooms and a good atmosphere. We stayed two nights and I will just highlight the three things that stood out to us as the best bits of this hotel.

Firstly, it is close to the market for shopping. However, it is also close to the livestock market which is a great cultural experience and should not be missed. We got up early, took in the sights of the livestock market and then returned to the hotel for breakfast.

Secondly, the menu at the hotel was great with lots of variety and even vegan options. Breakfast was nice but best of all was the pudding 'deep dish cookie'- we ate one on the big sofa in front of the fire two nights in a row! It was so good- not yet managed to recreate it despite many attempts since returning home to the UK.

Thirdly, the owner was very friendly and seemed to appreciate any feedback about the hotel that we could offer. We also got a sense that she was involved locally and trying to support the nearby communities. There are variety of things on offer like cooking courses which would have interested us if we had more time. We also arranged a car to and from the hotel and were provided with a very nice, safe driver and vehicle.

Wonderful place to stay and explore Otavalo- We would have stayed longer if we could!
