It's a solid hotel with good WiFi. Ask for a room that faces the back. The view isn't that great, but it's much quieter, as Ave 10 de Agosto can get loud, particularly on the weekend. It's not terrible, but the rooms in the back are a little more peaceful. If you're going to ride the train, check to see if it's running all the way to Riobamba. When I was there, it was departing from Alusi, so while I could buy my ticket at the train station across the street. I had to take a 3-hour bus to Alusi to ride it, and a bus back. While there's more to do in Riobamba than the train, I would have been better off, hitting Alusi on the way to/from Riobamba. It would have save a morning and evening bus ride. ...but obviously, that has no impact on the Hotel el Liberatodor, as it's a solid hotel.

Conveniently right across from the train station (although trains are not leaving from Riobamba at the moment--have to catch it in Aleusi), this hotel has great value for $15 US a night. It´s clean, has lots of cartoon channels if you have kids, and has warm and high pressured showers. Lots of room for families.

We chose this hotel because it is close to the train station. Be advised the train DOES NOT leave from Riobamba at this time. We chose to go mountain biking with ProBici (see other review) instead and were not disappointed at all. We had rooms on the back side of the hotel, so we had few issues with noise. The hotel rooms are situated in an atrium around the lobby so if you leave the louvered windows in the bathroom open it can get a bit loud from the other patrons. The showers were hot and had plenty of pressure. The beds were firm with clean sheets. What else could you ask for? Great value for the money.

Room Tip: We got rooms off the main drag in the back of the hotel. We got great sleep (with ear plugs).

I had a room facing the main street of town which was a little noisy. The room was surely big enough for USD 15 per night. Only downside was that the bathroom was not too clean.

We booked just one night at the Hotel el Libertador, and ended up staying three nights more. Ok its not flashy, but it is very clean, most rooms are quite spacious, very light, airy, and great value for money. There are marble? tiles in the entrance ways so it does look welcoming upon arrival

If you want a better night sleep, certainly inspect a room that is not facing the street - no doubt this would be quite noisy at night. We chose room 25, yes it's up three floors but great exercise at altitude! Note That there are also some rooms that don't have windows, and I could not recommend those...

There is no breakfast included in the rate, however at the really great cafe right next door there is a good breakfast for $2, also with a $2 almuerzo (lunch) and probably something similar for dinner...

We paid $25 per night. All in all excellent value.

Room Tip: If you want a better night sleep, certainly inspect a room that is not facing the busy main street...

We stayed only one night at the Hotel Libertador as we did not get into town early enough to get a ticket for the Wednesday train. The Libertador was a clean hotel right across the street from the station and we had a balcony room that overlooked the station. No breakfast here like other places but the room with bath for two was only $36.

The hotel is right across from the train station (to the Devil's Nose) and along the main strip in Riobamba with many shops, restaurants and bars. Rooms are inexpensive and although the facilities are pretty basic, the essentials are there - TV (a few channels are in English), phone in room, shower with hot and cold water and good water pressure, toilet with seat, wash basin. Cleanliness overall is acceptable. Hotel has a large atrium and clean hallways. Walk up - no elevators. Free Internet access (slow modem) from PC in lobby. Noise can be an issue - voices in the lobby and hallways carry up and down the atrium and local drivers have a tendency to honk at every opportunity - ask for a room away from the street if you are a light sleeper. Bottled water and coke can be purchased from the front desk. Hotel staff is friendly.
