I have stayed here on several occassions, usually to break up the long bus trip from Cuenca to Quito. There are several types of rooms available. The room I had in the front of the hotel was terrible as the bathroom was tiny, the bed was warped/should have been replaced years ago and the noise from the street was non-stop - the stores below the hotel start blasting music from 7am until after 10pm. However, on return trips I stayed in the rooms in the rear as well as the atrium area of the hotel. These were great. Large rooms, comfortable beds, clean/spacious bathrooms and no noise. The breakfast (included) was filling - eggs, breads, cheese, fresh fruit, juice, coffee/tea. The staff is very friendly and quite knowledgeable about the area.

Room Tip: AVOID a room in the front of the hotel.

We arrived at 7am and the staffs are so kind as to let us in. We had to leave at 6am on the next day, and the staff kindly prepared good buffet breakfast at 5.30am though the normal hour is from 6am. They were not overly cordial, but actually very helpful when asked.
In front of the train station = Best location, where the sight-seeing trains are the biggest tourist attraction. The hotel has the roof terrace, available to the guest not only to dry laundry but also to enjoy hanging around with view and breeze.
Our room was not facing the street, so we didn't have any problem with noise. The room was simple but large enough, and we found it rather efficiently setup. No problem with shower or pillow, and the bed was quite comfy. But wifi was weak on the top floor where our room was.

All in all, I found the place with good value for money, especially for train lovers.

Room Tip: Not facing the street, if you like quiet room.

We stayed here for 2 nights! They didn't clean our room after the first night which we didn't really like but wasn't a deal breaker for us!! But what drove us crazy was the noise!!! Ecuador is an extremely noisy Country but we had 2 rooms at the front of the hotel and it never got quiet and the windows do nothing!!!! I sleep with ear plugs always but it basically didn't matter!! We didn't require much from the staf bit we asked about a few tourists sights and told us things were much further then they really were which was weird but otherwise great! Location was good, blankets warm enough, tv good and hot water plentiful!

The good about the La Estacion hotel is its location, right behind the train station, but don't expect more, rooms are not so clean. Beds are acceptable but pillows are as hard as a rock. Bathrooms are small (am a petite person and I had a hard time to take a shower). The staff is rude and bring their children with them to the work place, crying children can be heard all over the place and can be seen sleeping on the floor or in the reception.
Riobamba is a nice city to spend a really nice time. If there is no high season you will find a room in any hotel, so ask to see room first.

This hotel is located right beside the train station not too far from the main attractions of Riobamba . The rooms are clean , small but not sound proof , we could ear the people talk from two floors below . The mattress in our bed was very soft while the pillow was as hard as wood . The hotel had told us on the phone 2 days prior to arrival that they had taken reservations in our name for the tourist train and when we arrived there , we were told that tickets were not available anymore ! They had lied to us so that we would not cancel our rooms . WiFi works well in the lobby but not at all on the fourth floor ( no elevator) . price was cheap at $16 per person but better value could be easily found

Room Tip: We had 7 rooms booked for our group and everone found the noisy

The location of this hotel is ideal: Just off the main street where most of the touristy stores, restaurants and bars are located; overlooking the train station, easy taxi ride (or 15 minute walk) to bus terminal. The staff is friendly and helpful. The included breakfast is one of the most generous I've had in Ecuador (2 eggs, bread, butter, marmalade, coffee/tea, juice, fruit). The owner takes a lot of pride in her hotel. The bed we slept in wasn't the best, but the room was comfortable enough, shower was hot. A window in our room faced a foyer where guests gathered to chat on couches early in the morning and late at night, so if you're a light sleeper maybe choose a different location. I can't remember exactly, but believe we paid $12/person.

I was in the hotel for a week and I must say I enjoy my time there. The setting is really nice, the staff is helpful and the owners of the place will invite you to feel at home. I got robbed during my stay in Riobamba and they helped me as much as they could. They can arrange trips around there (Chimborazo volcano) or book tickets to the Nariz del diablo for example. I was not there for tourism but once the train to this place will be repaired, the hotel is just very close from the train station, so it makes a perfect place to get the train early. You have free wifi and computers with internet access.
Rooms are simple and clean with real (!) hot shower - not just like a few drops of water struggling to fall like in many hotels in this price range. I think that for the price (16$ for a simple room) it's a very valuable hotel.
Ultimately, the only thing that may prevent you from feeling the good atmosphere is if you don't speak a word of spanish. They will speak basic english to communicate but it might not be exactly the same. Still a good quality/price option anyway.

Room Tip: Some rooms around the stairs may be a bit noisy. If you're sensitive to this just ask a room on...
