“Great family hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2010

this is our second visit to this hotel complex and we are very happy with the hotel and staff. we have three young children and find the family rooms great value. They are spacious, a double and twin seperated by folding doors or heavy curtain with a bathroom and balcony. The food is good both in the pool side bar and restaurant. There is hot food available from 12noon till 9pm which is a bonus for youngsters. we also all enjoyed the water slides which a fairly well supervised by the staff to prevet accidents. The children's club is also well organised. The international childrens club is in the sister hotel (5 mins walk through the grounds away0 and is mainly Russian, scandanavian and British children. My 5 year old thoroughly enjoyed it and is is safe and well supervised. We will be going again. The staff are helpful and friendly and as it is a compact hotel nothing is too far away you have the use of facilities in the Mirabel beach and Park so have the spa, gym and beach. You can eat in any of the pool side/beach bars and the restaurants in Mirabel Park and Club.

This was my second trip to the same hotel and when we booked the year before I was worried about the heat and the mosquitos. I need not have worried. Yes it was very hot but it is not humid so heat was bearable. My son and I both took garlic capsules and I only got 1 bite, found out later we should have taken vitamin B1 or used patches which work very fast and last for 24 hrs. haven't managed to find a shop that sells these yet.
Anyway back to the Holiday. 2008 and 2009 nothing had changed.
We arrived in the middle of the afternoon and were very impressed with the very large, clean and elegant lobby area which led out onto a terrace which is where the evening entertainment happens (which is basic/terrible). Immediately infront of you is the pool area- very busy with lots of children screaming and having fun, ideal because we only have one child and he made so many friends we hardly saw him.
We booked a family room which had a little alcove with 2 single beds for children, on the first and second floors it is at the window and is separated from the adult bedroom by a thick curtain. On the ground floor the patio doors open into the adult room and the childrens beds are next to the toilet area and are separated by doors.
The jaz mirabel club is only one section of a 3 tier hotel area. the Club is the cheapest, followed by Park and the most expensive is the Beach. Incidentally the hotel complex is situated in front of the mountains which offer beautiful sunsets and also provides a bit of a breeze during the days, The Beach has no breeze and is a dead heat. Club residents can use the facilities of the other the 2 hotels and the snack bars are for all ( there is even one on the beach for all). The only division is in the main hotel bars and in the restaurants - you must dine in your own hotel but everybody gets the same. Crowd control I presume as they are very busy. Food is of a good quality but not 5 * though we had enough to eat .
main restaurant open 7am - 10am - no dress code but you can't be wet. plenty of fruit and cereal, yoghurt, cold meats, fruit juices and dates with sweet pastries, omlettes and pancakes warning bacon is not bacon as we know it - it's beef ham and it is not nice.
Lunch opens 12md - 3pm varied selection of hot and cold food plenty salad - very fresh. fresh pasta excellent my son lived on this made fresh in front of you so usually a lengthy queue. Dress code - no swimming costumes though ladies can tie a surrong over and be OK.
6pm-10pm each night in the week has a theme italian, mexican, chinese all with an egyptian twist but my advice take a little and see what you enjoy then go back and get some more, that way your not leaving a huge amount of food you don't like. Every evening they have a cravery with different sorts of meat from lamb to chicken and fish. The carvery is where the chip fryer is so again usaully a long queue. TIP you must try the mince kebabs made in the chips area on the hot plate usually they go very fast so you'll need to wait. There is a semi dress code for evenings - men trousers. There is a outdoor seating area which is lovely in the evening.
Gingers snack bar opens at 10am- 5pm with tea and coffee and pastries left over from breakfast in the main restaurant it also does light lunches - pizza, burgers, tuna sandwiches and fish fingers (chunks of deep fried fish try them and see) and chips opens when main restaurant closes. You can get lovely ice cream here after 3pm made from fresh fruit - really delicious.
There is no food except room service which you pay for after 10pm so if you want a snack later on take some food from the main restauraunt and store it in your fridge.
The a la carte restaurants - there are 3 - chinese which is excellent and italian and middle eastern. you need to book for these but they are open later. the a la carte is not included in your AI package.
The spa offers massages and a huge variety of treatments all quite expensive but ok for a treat and really relaxing.
There is a good small souk in the Park/Beach area good quality fake T-Shirts most designer names and fantstic range for children, towels herbs and spices, snorkelling gear and small expensive supermarket, perfume store, picture and papyrus shops, jewellery shops.
WARNING - do NOT use the hairdresser in the souk what a nightmare!!!!
There are little finch like birds everywhere in the outdoor areas even on the table tops.
At the height of summer the usual german behaviour of putting towels out at dawn. Plenty of sun loungers around the pool areas 1 small adult pool and 1 large family pool and one little baby pool. Beware the surface is extremely slippy when wet and roasting hot for bare feet. Very good drinks bar at the pool side.
We tipped the barstaff, waiters and cleaner. We gave the barman and waiters £1 coins and changed them into English (not scottish) Notes at the end of our stay so they could spend them. The cleaning staff we tipped with Egyptian as they seemed to change through out the fortnight. A few egyptian pounds is adequate just left out on the unit they will take so put your valuables in the safe.. If you tip you do get better service the waiters keep you a good table out the sun and away from the door. The bar staff are very attentive, and you will be served a lot faster at the pool bar. The cleaners do excellent things with towels on your bed - swans, crocodiles, love hearts, and flower petals.
Going outside the Hotel.
Out the door and across the road to the taxi rank watch they will crowd you. £2 egyptian takes you to La Strada a good shopping mall with a MacDonald's, KFC and Peking Inn for eating out. Also good selection of shops but you need to haggle and be prepared to walk away. Good for leather goods and cheap holiday gifts.
Trips to take.
Late afternoon Boat trip out to see the Dolphins in a speed boat the dolphins don't come up to surface until going dusk and it very much your luck if you see them or not. Large groups of speed boats all watching out for them and word soon gets around if the dolphins are spotted. We were lucky to see them but alot of the other boats had already gone in and their customers missed the experience. we will definately be repeating this trip.
Long day trip to Cairo book this trip at the hotel - don't be ripped off at the travel agent at La Strada.
Buggies in the mountains to see the sunset - great fun.
Public beach along the beach to the right from the hotel on the left hand side of the path. music played and you pay £5 egyptian for a bench but snorkelling super just watch the kids it gets deep and they dont realise. Speed boat with a giant settee and banana boat -kids loved this but they get a fright when they come off and struggle to get back up on it adult must go. Warning toilet disgusting. The water at the hotel beach smells because it is very shallow and you need to walk out really far to see anything, beware the starfish legs floating about there is a natural breakwater but lots of prickly anemonie ( sorry about spelling) so you need to wear shoes.

service herewas first class, everyone from bar staff to cleaners were helpful and pleasant, obviously tipping helped but as rule the service was genuine. Rooms were spacious , we had room to sleep 4 . The bathroom was large and plenty of toiletries were left for you to use.
The pools were huge and not paticularly busy. There was even a slide pool for kids.
The spa was fantastic, again large. Used the steam room and gym. Gym was small but never really big enough to warrant more equipment.
There were shops outside for the usual trinkets, but on the whole went for a relaxing holiday without shopping.
Found the food to be great. Good variety, fresh and hot. During my stay there was rack of lamb and as many fresh shell on prawns as you could eat, freshly cooked in front of you..The hotel info on arrival was alittle misleading as it stated that club guests could only eat in the cactus restaurant, which wasn't the case as we ate in the evening in Flooka next door. Same food just nicer surroundings, plus entertainment later in the upstairs bar.

We travelled to sharm on 7th February 2010 having booked less than a week before departure. I must admit we had heard some horror stories regarding the food and iffy tummies but at the Jaz Mirabel Club we encountered no problems what so ever therefore we were both pleasantly surprised! As with all the hotels the security entering the reception area was monitored, there we were welcomed on Sunday night with cocktail hour, not quite like home as most tasted the same, but welcoming none the less. The bar opposite the reception was lovely with super attentive staff and wonderful cappuchino coffee all free!
We were shown to our room which overlooked the large swimming pool complex, it was clean, very large as it had 2 extra beds in a small room before the balcony a mini bar which they would empty if asked so that you could fill it with your own things, a good bathroom with the most amazing huge shower. There was not much drawer space and not many coathangers but if asked I am sure they would have provided more.
The air conditioning was very effective as when we arrived we used it to heat the room as it was quite chilly in the evening, towards the end of the fortnight we were using it to cool the room down.
Most days were spent on the beach were we used the beach bar and the snack bar on the mirabel Beach complex, but each menu was the same as the Park and Club but it was just convenient not to have to walk backat lunch time as it was quite a long way but this was the only excercise we had for the 1st week!
On our way home from the beach we would use the Spa facilities which again were free, the steam room was super so was the jacuzzi which was like a small swimming pool. I did venture into the gym on the odd occasion which had some good equipment in there and there was always a member of staff on hand to show you how they worked and there were cleaned each time befor a new person used them.
Breakfast was amazing if you like danish pastries and different breads etc. There must have been over twenty to choose from and they changed the variety daily.
Lunch and dinner were both self service, the salad bar was excellent, the soup was always hot and tasty, the main courses became a little predictable but everything was edible , not my idea of puddings but there was always a good selection of cheese.
Again the resurant was spotlessly clean there were always waiters clearing tables and the food was always being restocked.
The hotel put on a shuttle service to Naama Bay at a very cheap rate, we went a couple of times and ate at an Indian and at Vinos restuarant. both worked out at about 35 pounds for two with drinks and both were superb.
For the price we paid, this holiday was lovely, no, Egyption star ratings do not equate to British ones but then you don't pay 5* prices.
If you are wanting loud nightlife, and to disco til the early hours don't go to Jaz Mirabel, but if you want peace, quiet and relaxation get booking.
Sorry no photos as camera shutter broke on the 1st day!

I stayed at the Jaz Mirabel Club hotel from 14th to 28th Jan 2010. Here is my review of the hotel: -

Hotel
The MirabelClub is part of a complex which also includes the Park and Beach. We were allowed to use the Parks bars and restaurants and the bar at the beach front. The hotel was really clean and had its own shopping area which was lovely, but if you like to barter there is some shops outside the hotel and a new shopping centre with a starbucks and some restaurants as the hotel shops wont budge on price. The gardens were so nice and well kept. We were in Sharm when they had the storm and although there was alot of damage and loss of electric the hotel dealt with it great. I must stress that I have never experienced rudeness from staff before, but at the Mirabel some staff were rude and tended to serve those that were tipping first. It was mentioned to management and things improved slightly. There are alot of russians at the hotel but you get used to it as it's the same everywhere in Egypt and they do provide entertainment watching them stagger home after a bottle of vodka! There is one cashpoint in the shopping area and another outside the Beach Hotel.

Rooms
Big rooms with huge showers. There is a mini bar in the room that is checked daily and if you have anything in it then you are charged. This includes water so if you need any ask at the lobby bar for bottles. Room was clean ish, although the cleaner was quite blunt asking for tips. At night the rooms did have a smell from outside as the hotel waters the grass and plants with foul smelling water that smelt like drains. The smell wasnt apparent in the day time, but was very over powering indeed.

Food
The food was lovely, not as much choice as we have had in the past but what we did have was hot and i didnt experience a bad stomach which is a plus for me. You only get a choice of soft drinks wine and beer with your meal and it is self service. If people say that they couldnt find anything to eat then they are extremely fussy as there is something for everyone. I do think that the speciality restaurants are quite pricey considering you are all inclusive and charge for drinks where other hotels include them or subsidise the cost.

Entertainment
Typical Egyptian entertainment in the evening with the majority being in the Beach hotel. The Park had singers on which was ok but a bit boring 14 nights in a row. There is no entertainment in the Club and if you are taking childrent then they will be bored. There is water slides for the kids in the daytime which was a nice bonus. The disco is open every night but being January it wasnt very busy.

Beach
Nice shingle beach with a jetty nearby, which had sunbeds on and steps to snorkel. As this doesnt belong to the Mirabel you are charged, but it is well worth it.

I have been to Egypt several times so I know what the standards of their hotels are like and that they arn't true equivalents to our 4 and 5 star hotels, but very nice regardless. Other guests staying at the Beach hotel paid a lot more than we did for the privalige and we could use all their facilities, apart from the restaurant. I would definately stay here again and I would recommend it to others.

We have just returned from a week, and found that the reviews were accurate. The resort was clean, the rooms fairly good sized, food ok and most importantly we were not sick!!
Having been to Eygpt before we had low expectations in terms of nightly entertainment and food, so we were prepared.
We were quite happy with the food ( though not as flavoursome as normal ), and the resort staff were friendly.
A few points were absolute let downs though.....

1. Expect the absolute bare minimum of assistance from the front desk staff, and spa staff and infact expect rudemess at times.
2. Prepare yourself by learning Russian, as they dominate this resort.
3.Expect the russians to drink late at night and make loads of noise
4. Expect to be kicked out of your room at 12pm on the dot, and expect to be harrased by your housekeeper for both tips and UK money changing at favourable rates to them!
5. Prepare to be ripped off by all people at all times and with complete cheek
