“SECOND VISIT AND NOT DISAPPOINTED”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

What can I say but Thank You all at Tirana again. From the moment we arrived till the moment we left the staff were helpful and friendly. We asked for a room next to pool 2 and got THE room next to pool 2, perfect. It was clean and tidy, not one of the refurbished rooms but we had no complaints with it. Most of the holiday was spent round the pool or pool bar and everyone from the towel suppliers and bar staff were good fun and friendly and kept drinks topped up all day!! The food was generally very good especially the Lebonese restuarant, only minor complaints was the lack of seating when the main restuarant was busy. Specal thanks goes out to Jo McCormack who always checked how we was and helped with any questions we had, amazing lady!!!!!
Would we visit again.... Yes of course

From start to finish the staff at this hotel couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome. Our first encounter was with Besher and Amir, the front of house staff. We had our luggage whisked away then greeted with cocktails. We were escorted to our room and staff made sure we were happy with our accommodation. The rooms were cleaned daily with our housekeeping staff Ahmed making sure we had everything we needed. The pool areas were always clean and the big plus of not needing to get up in the early hours to reserve sun beds. There were plenty of pools to choose from and none of them crowded at anytime. The aqua park was a great addition, around the back of the complex so that guests could relax in peace by the pool if they wanted. There was a free regular bus service to the beach where you could do snorkelling, a must do activity before booking any trips. Although breakfast was a bit limited, there was plenty of choice at lunch and dinner. We were able to book into the Italian and Chinese restaurants which offered a different meal experience and the food was delicious, well presented and freshly cooked.

Room Tip: A one bedroom family room is one room with a bathroom not an apartment. All with air con and really...

Where do I start.....I'm so shocked with the reviews as this place is awful....I can only presume all these people like cold tasteless food, dirty rooms with no towels, warm drinks in plastic cups & queuing for drinks / food. We are a family of 4 (children aged 3 & 8) & we're not fussy people at all, we used to do allocated on arrival back in the day but when you've spent a lot of money you expect at least some nice qualities.....our cleaner knew we were a family of 4 yet would leave 1 towel so phone calls to reception had to be made to rectify this....there is a kids corner for food but my son was given x1 small slice of pizza, it's like food is rationed...!!! I complained several times about all my issues to Management (which is really not like me to complain) but I'd seriously had enough. EVERY single English family I spoke to said the same so I hope they follow suit & add a review so people can see what the hotel is like. Food is undercooked so bad tummies for us...
There are some good points like McDonalds deliver (which is not my food of choice but it was the best meal we'd had in 2 weeks...!!). Some staff are lovely (after tipping of course...!!).....& the weather is fab....apologies if you've already booked this hotel but if you go there with no expectations then you may be pleasantly surprised.
I'm more than happy to answer any queries.

Dear Reviewer,

Many thanks for taking the time to complete a Trip Advisor review about Tirana Aqua Park Resort. Please accept our sincere apologies that the hotel did not meet your expectations. All feedback received from our guests is extremely important to us and we take all comments seriously.

We are sorry to read that overall you were not satisfied with the food. I can confirm that our Executive Chef is currently in the process of rolling out new menus for the main restaurant dining experience. As I am sure you can appreciate it is a big challenge for our food & beverages team and kitchens to cater for such a wide variety of nationalities, cultures and personal taste. I would actively encourage any guest not satisfied with any aspect of the food to make direct contact with our guest relations team at the earliest available opportunity while still in the hotel. Guest relations will be able to act as a liaison between yourself and our food & beverages department to ensure a solution is found so we can cater for all our guests’ individual needs.

I am sorry that you feel that upon reporting the cleanliness issue this was not handled efficiently by our housekeeping department. While we are actively working to improve standards I would encourage any guest facing issues in the hotel that are not rectified to their satisfaction to further escalate this to the hotel management team.

I apologize that you were not happy with the all inclusive drinks service. The all inclusive concept specifies that all beverages are served by the glass. All our indoor bars use glasses unless the drink is requested as take away in which case a plastic cup will be issued to minimize the risk of any glass breakages around pools and public areas for the safety of all our guests. All outdoor bars serve using either plastic cups or acrylic glasses.

We've just returned from an 11 night stay at Tirana Aqua Park Resort and in the main it was good value for money.
On arrival we were greeted with a non-alcoholic cocktail and a cool towel, and once we were booked in we were shown to our room.
The first thing to say is that the hotel is huge, and is mainly comprised of 3 storey blocks. There are no stairs and there were nearly 60 of them from the pool to our room on the third floor. I would suggest that it is not suitable for people in wheelchairs and those with walking difficulties as even most of the rooms that are on the ground floor are still reached by stairs. I know that some people with young children in buggies also found it a bit of a struggle.

The rooms were a nice size and although we had a third bed in the room, it did not feel over crowded. And we had a great view over one of the many pools. There were a few minor maintenance issues which did take a couple of times being reported to reception before they were finally resolved. The bathroom was huge with a walk in shower which all three of us could have fitted in. I looks good initially, but could do with a bit of an update, but it is liveable with.
The rooms are however very clean and the room was made up daily with bottled water replenished in the small chiller. The beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning was stunningly good.

Food is very subjective, so all I will say is that although at times it didn't look particularly attractive ( I often had a plate of completely brown food), it tasted fine and was very varied. I didn't get bored as I normally do on an all-inclusive holiday as there was a different theme every night.
It appears that they were trying different options and ways of organising the restaurant and things were rarely in the same place for more than a couple of days. At the busiest times you could normally get a table but would have to wait for it to be cleared, and then even longer for the cutlery to be given to you. Quite often there would not be any bowls or spoons, and on a regular basis there would only be paper cups for tea and coffee which would leak.
As an alternative to the main restaurant, there are 5 a la carte restaurants, Italian, Indian, English, Chinese and Lebanese. We tried the Italian and loved it, so we then booked to try the Indian Buffet. Unfortunately, they didn't cater for kids like the Italian did, but they offered to make my daughter chicken nuggets and chips. However, we had finished our starter, main course and dessert before the chips arrived and we were then told that the nuggets would be a further 5 minutes! By the time they arrived the chips were gone and we had got up to leave.
We didn't bother to try any of the others.

There are loads of pools around the complex. Some are lively and some are quiet, you just choose the one that suits you. The pools were spotlessly clean, we saw the pool people change the filters at least twice a day. We would like to thank Hanny and Sheriff who were always there with big smiles and got 'our' spot ready for us in the morning and also kept the area around the pool very clean. I didn't see one wasp.
One thing to mention is that they do not want you to wear any cotton t shirts in the pool for hygiene reasons which we didn't know. Luckily it was not a rule that was upheld in the main pool while we were there, but it was sometimes in the aqua park area.
The aqua park was great fun and there was never any time that it felt packed, but you did sometimes have to "wrestle" with a Russian to get a mat or ring from them.

The pool bars were stocked with larger, local spirits, soft drinks and fruit juices. There is no wine available apart from in the restaurants. Sometimes you could be waiting for quite a while on the pool side of the bar before you were served as there was rarely more than one person serving.

The animators were good and they would try to involve you as much as you wished to, but they would take no for an answer unlike some of the other people who would be trying to get you to have a massage or go diving with them. However you could get a red flag to tie to the umbrella which would indicate that you wanted to be left alone.

We only went to the beach once, it was nice but you had to each it via an open sided shuttle bus, and to be honest we couldn't be bothered to do it again. Consequently I can't comment on the snorkelling as we didn't do any.

Throughout the grounds they are trying to improve things by adding grass and trees, but it appears to be slow progress.

If you are looking for a place that can offer something to everyone and various tastes then I would recommend The Tirana, but it still has room for improvement, but at least they are trying to get it right.

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs make sure you request a low floor, but even then there are still a few...

Dear Reviewer,

Many thanks for taking the time to complete a Trip Advisor review about Tirana Aqua Park Resort.

All of your kind comments have been shared with the management team and staff and everybody here is delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your holiday experience with us.

Your recommendations regarding improvements have been passed to the hotel management team and, as always, are greatly appreciated. Our hotel is constantly looking for ways to implement new measures to ensure guest satisfaction.

As you highlight in your review the hotel does not have an elevator and as per tour operators information is highlighted as perhaps not being suitable for guests who are mobility limited with wheel chairs or push chairs. We would ask guests to take this into consideration at the point of booking. However wherever possible our reservations department aim to meet all guest requests (subject to availability) such as ground floor rooms or rooms close to reception and the main restaurant.

It is always pleasing to hear that our guests were satisfied with the hotel facilities, food and service during their stay with us. Thank you very much for your review and we look forward to the pleasure of welcoming back soon with our own tradition of warm and friendly hospitality.

We stayed at The Tirana for a week in May - 2 adults and 2 children (ages 10 & 14).

It was a value for money family holiday and although we enjoyed our stay. there are a few issues to be addressed which would have made our stay even more pleasant.

The staff work hard and were always pleasant. Queries emailed to the hotel Guest Relations department prior to our stay were answered efficiently,

Rooms

Our room was spacious with two bedrooms, although one only does only contain 2 single sofa beds, so we moved the chairs and table from the main room to make it look less bare. There was enough hanging space for 4 but the drawers in the middle of the wardrobe were broken and could not be used. Large shower. Excellent air conditioning. Safe. The room was kept clean and we had some lovely towel art a couple of times.

Pools/Aqua Park

You could not fault the cleanliness of the pool and how hard the towel guys and pool bar staff worked. We gave a tip on our first day and again later in the week and our sun beds were laid out with towels in the same place each day. The sunbeds could do with a clean more regularly though as could the small white tables, of which there aren't enough.

There was never a fight for sunbeds around the pool areas but there are not enough mats or rings for use at the aqua park. Either more need to be purchased or a system put in place that stops guests keeping them for long periods of time and we even saw some people that kept them beside their sunbeds.

The life guards at the aqua park weren't consistent. On our first day the whistles were being blown constantly as soon as people had entered the water but then we saw a few accidents where there had not been a lifeguard at the top of the slide, allowing groups of children to slide down together and even some children were climbing up the slides instead of using the stairs.

If you don't want anyone pestering you with selling trips or visits to the spa, then ask for a red flag from the towel centre.

Cotton t-shirts are not allowed in the pool but the nylon swim outfits are.

Excursions and Getting Around

We booked to see the dolphin show and for transport to the Old Market. I wouldn't bother with the market again as it is just bazars, not an actual market. We stopped for a drink and although we knew 10% tax and 12% service would be added, we were charged 44% rather than the 22%, so check your bill.

There isn't anywhere to walk out to at night from the hotel. You have to get a taxi to La Strada, Soho Square, Naama Bay etc. We arranged ours with the man that sits at the desk in the reception area.

Beach

The bus runs regularly to the beach. There is ongoing building work on the access road to the beach but it really is not a problem. There are sunbeds, snack bar, showers, toilets etc. Take your snorkelling gear and shoes to see the fish as you can access the sea from the jetty. Don't forget your towel card.

WiFi

We hired a Wifi unit from Mohammed Time Tours for £20 for the week. It does not give unlimited access, just browsing, so we were able to Skype and use Facebook but the children couldn't access online games. The hotel were advertising Wifi for 270le (3 days plus 3 days free).

Animation Team

They really do work hard and long days. There are organised activities each day e.g. water aerobics, water polo, basketball and darts. There's a mini disco at the Ampitheatre each night followed by an animation team show or visiting shows e.g. fire show, comedy night, bingo etc.
On our last day we were asked our opinion of the activities provided and what improvements could be made. In my opinion there needs to be more activities for the chidden who are too old for the kids club but not big enough to join in with the adult based water activities e.g. the Olympics Day activities. The children were having a lovely time cheering England on against the Russian team, but there weren't organised activities just for them (8-11 yr olds). There is no pressure to join in and the team will take time to have a chat at your sunbed. The 5 Star team are Sam, Naomi, Charlie, Hema, Sama, Vova, Yana, Gala, and DJ Pepsi.

Food and Drink

On arrival we didn't eat until 9.45pm and there wasn't much available and what we had was luke warm or dried up. We weren't advised there was another sitting from 11pm for new arrivals.
Generally we found the quality of the food was fine. There was always something for us all to eat at each meal. We didn't use the Kids Corner restaurant which offered burger, pizza, chips etc. We had breakfast twice in the buffet restaurant, sitting outside, however the constant queuing, noise, jostling and general bad manners of other guests (Egyptian and Russian) led us to use the Italian restaurant for the rest of our stay, which was opened for, we were told, the English guests. It was much more civilised. We also ate there at lunchtime as we got fed up with not being able to get a table in the buffet restaurant and enduring the battle of being pushed in front of, long queues, food running out etc. It was a really unpleasant experience. I spoke to the food and beverage manager and we were given extra bookings at the A la Carte restaurants for two evenings. We ate at the Italian twice (set menu), the Chinese (set menu) and Lebanese (buffet) restaurants which were all good. The English buffet was an interesting night. At 8.30pm they were not set up and at 9.10pm everything was cleared away! The food was good. We were given dirty glasses and only allowed one drink each. This restaurant is situated at the pool bar.

Overall a really lovely week away, but I personally do think the following need addressing:-

Plastic cups at the pool bar - more of the taller size need purchasing as when these run out you get a tiny disposable plastic cup suitable for a child. Bring your own plastic pint glass/tumbler.

The smell in the 'serving hatch' for drinks in the buffet restaurant and the lobby bar. I can only describe it as a smell of sick (sorry).

Bookings for Al a Carte Restaurants - the system needs an overhaul. Every night there were empty tables even though the restaurant was fully booked. Perhaps a deposit would encourage guests to cancel rather than just not turning up?

Buffet restaurant - I don't know what the solution here is, perhaps two sittings as in the Al a Carte restaurants?

Purchase more rings and mats for the Aqua Park

We would definitely return if these little matters were addressed.

Room Tip: We were in a ground floor room with a view of the Aqua Park - central location.

We have just come back from a 8 day holiday here, our 1st visit to sharm and would definitely recommend for friends and families. The aqua park is big enough for all and never had any issues getting a sun lounger! Slides were great fun for all. Pool bar with Ahmed and Moustaffa from the towel centre all delivered exceptional service - thank you for keeping the drinks flowing and making our holiday. Tipping is expected but not necessary, but we did find we received an even better service. Food great in all restaurants - but book on the first day so you get in. The best restaurants were Italian and Chinese, however everyones tastes are different.
The entertainment was good and thanks to Charlotte and Naomi for making our stay enjoyable - well done lasses...you both work sooooo hard!. Soho Square and Hollywood are a must to see with the hotel putting on free buses...its safe, clean and hassle free shopping...just see the entertainment team and they'll sort it out for you.
We booked the quads for 25 english pounds which I would highly recommend, fantastic being in the desert, just book through the guys near the pool.
The SPA is also highly recommended but make sure you barter in price...we had chocolate body scrub n massage n jacuzzi n steam room lasting about 1.5 hours for about 40 english pounds each.
Joanne in guest services was great, needed to give some feedback during our stay which was taken on board and acknowledged - well done and thank you joanne.
Overall a great holiday and we would definitely recommend and return!!!!!
