“Best of Service”
Reviewed 24 April 2012

We have recently returned from the Royal Grand Azure after an eleven night stay and I can safely say that we received the best service ever. All the staff were great and always gave fantastic service with a smile. We did tip but not until the end of the first week so it was not all about the money. Mohamed the man who cleaned our room was always on hand to sort out any small problems we may have had and the room was spotless.
We requested a quiet room and were given a great room with a sea view In block 16 and if you like us prefer a bit of peace and quiet then ask for a room with a high number as the blocks are numbered from one to twenty starting from the hotel and working down towards the sea. Our room and bathroom were both large and airy and we had a good size balcony.
There are seven pools so you can always find a sunbed and each pool is different. The largest and most popular pool for entertainment and activities is the Royal pool and the most laid back was the Oasis pool and whichever you choose the pool boys are there to help set up your sunbed and find you some shade.
The specialist restaurants are good and the best of all is the Royal Dragon Chinese for the food and the Tamr Henna Egyptian for the fantastic service but the Italian and Indian are also good. We had no trouble booking any of these although the hotel was busy. You can book up to four days in advance and if you are a bit flexible you will have no trouble getting into your choice of restaurant. The bread in all the restaurants is good and varied and I believe it is baked on site and the chocolate ice cream is to die for
On the down side we were not impressed with the evening entertainment which from 8.30 – 9.30 every evening was exactly the same songs and games for children followed from 9.30-10.30 with singers or dancers who were a bit mundane. Our only other issue was the size of the beer glasses at the lagoon Pool Bar. They were fine in the Royal Bar and in the Grand Lounge but tiny at the pool bar.

Room Tip: Rooms with high numbers are quiet and neer the sea

There were only 4 staff members from all them that put an effort into their jobs...it wasn’t just the tips. We tipped every one however, some staff only became friendly the last two hours of our stay...strange.
I Would recommend Ally (No1) I called him & Sam top pool bar, Robert, he called himself....bottom restaurant waiter & the entertainments guy, always friendly. He’s the little fella married to an English girl. For the rest either under two much pressure or were not motivated enough. In the main reception bar, the staff there thought they were god’s gift to earth. Wow no discipline what so ever. Incredible!
The hotel its self is beautiful, clean, and the manicured grounds are really nice.
I have a cheek complaining about this hotel because of the price. Main reception restaurant is far too dark unless you’re sitting on the outside, it’s really dingy in there.
I wouldn’t go back again.
Sultan Gardens is streets ahead of the Grand Azure.
I recommend a change of senior management as a starting point.

Have just got back from a week at RGA and thoroughly enjoyed it

I must say some of the previous reviews were a littel short minded as you need to remember where you are travelling to

Yes there were plumbing problems with no hot water for 3 days but when you called the emergency team were there before you could finish your next Long Island Iced Tea (Which were particularly good)

The Rum they used in the mohitos was dark instead of white , but still tasted fine and the whiskey Sour was a more than admirable substitute.the lemon Daiquiri was amazing especially if you used Vodka instead of Rum

The place was 85% Russian occupied but the vast majority were extremely friendly although they were a little lacking in general courtesy but we Brits love to say Good Morning to everyone we have ever clapped eyes on - It simply is not their way.

Their photography is very different and is more akin to FHM or other lads mags but you do get used to this after a while - This is our 3rd trip to egypt and it is certainly an eye opener first time you see it

The staff are all very keen to help particularly The Pool Bar tender who after one day remembered the cowboy's order at 1030 would start with sprite move onto beer and end with a Long island Ice tea with a Vodka & orange for the lady !!

Buffet was more than adequate and if you eat in the Adult version the aura is a littel quieter-Unfortunatley one of our English colleagues from North of Watford decided that he either could not be bothered to get up early or walk to the Family Buffett , with his wife and 2 young children , and ended up asking the staff , who were very affable and considerate to throw him out if they wanted to make a point. His excuse , if you can call it one , was that he had to go on a trip and needed to leave urgently - My answer get up or sort yourself out rather than making himslef and the British nation look foolish and aggressive which most of us are not - This I feel let the English side down and made me almost ashamed to be from the same land.

A second guy was at the Beach restaraunt and when he weas asked to , again very politely seat him and his party at 2 tables next to each other rather than re-arrange the tables to suit himself only and nobody else got right into the staff members face and left himself looking rather foolish and the other english visitors rather embarrassed - Come on lads let's show some decorum to the very kind and extremely hard working staff who are simply doing their jobs in near 100 degree heat

My biggest grumble comes around the dress code which for some reason is clearly stated but never enforced - I have to wear a suit , shirt and tie every day for work and when I am away do not mind putting on a pair of linens , a collared shirt and some summer shoes - Most people think it is okay to turn up in a footbal shirt , flip flops and working trousers - the staff do seem to be oblivious to this which was a little dissapointing after the admiral performace around the adult only buffett

All in all would I go back - definitely .Would I saty at the RGA again YES

Room Tip: We stayed in Block 4 at the Top of the newer part of the Hotel which affords easy access to the Busy...

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of April 2012. A very impressive hotel, on a very grand scale. The rooms were very large, modern, clean and perfect for a weeks stay. We enjoyed the buffet style restaurants and not one of us fell ill during our stay, 4 adults. We booked into each of the a la carte's and enjoyed every one of them. It is annoying that you have to queue up early on one morning of your break to book and there must be a better way of organising these bookings. The beach area is stunning and the jetty was open most days of our stay. I do not like the idea of swimming with fish so was very pleased with the amount of fish I could view from the jetty without the need to get in the water and swim with them! There are so many swimming pools and areas within the complex that you really are spoilt for choice and absolutely no need to get up early to put down towels as there are masses of sun beds. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the best part of our stay, by far, was all the staff at the hotel! It is unfair to single out any particular individual because everywhere we went on the hotel site we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff who simply could not do enough to ensure your stay is of the highest quality. Message to management at the hotel; the staff are a total credit to the hotel and should be highly valued as they make the reputation of your hotel! we would not hesitate to return to the hotel should we come back to Sharm.

Room Tip: All rooms appeared to be of an excellent quality

Dear FamilyFun79

Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review of your stay here with us.

We are reviewing the sytem of the reservations for a la carte, we currently take reservations 09:00 until midday, all our guests would like to book at 09:00 in order to ensure they visit all the resturaunts. We have now incresed the capacity in each resturaunt so our guests will not need to queue at 09:00 they have until midday and there will be availability.

We are aware that all our staff members work really to ensure you have an enjoyable stay and it is nice to read that they made your holiday.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Thank you

This was our fourth visit to Sharm and I have stayed in many 4 and 5* hotels over the world.
I have never written a review before but feel compelled to with this particular hotel. We stayed here for two weeks in March 2012 and booked through First choice as a 5* Premier hotel! The hotel looks lovely and the grounds are very well maintained but look more closely and you will see why it is not a 5* as it lacks that attention to detail in many respects.

Despite having requested a ground floor room at time of booking, we were taken to a second floor room. I did contact reception to explain this and although they did not apologise for the inconvenience, they did move us to a ground floor room that evening.

Room: looked lovely, however, black hair in the bath (neither my husband or I have that colour hair) which remained there for three days until I rinsed it away. This showed that the bath had not been cleaned. A suspect mark around the outside of the toilet bowl that remained there for the duration of the holiday! On three occasions we were not left with enough towels and no handsoap in the bathroom for 3 days. I contacted customer relations and I have to say that they are fantastic in their approach to customer service. Also net curtains in room were filthy.

Pools: Lots of them, only one that is heated, which is the really busy pool where it's pretty noisy.
The pools were absolutely freezing cold. Again, I would expect a 5* hotel to have these heated, particularly over the winter months.
It does state, sunbeds not to be reserved but I could see the pool boys reserving the same ones for the same people, day after day!
Beach: No windbreakers, everyone had to pile up sunbeds but this then left a shortage of them.
No toilets.
Beach bar:small plastic glasses (all the other hotels along the beach had large glasses)
Only coffee available, which is like the cheap rubbish you get out of vending machines! Again the other hotels had hot water so you could have tea as well as coffee on the beach and in cups.

Gym: What gym? A room, half the size of the bedrooms with two rickety bikes & a small selection of free weights, is not justified to be called this. Maybe the management should go & have a look at the Sheraton Sharm to give them an idea of what a gym should look like!

Food: Fantastic, on the whole a great varied seletion. My only slight criticism would be that the breakfast cereals were more geared for children. There were oats but I would like to have seen nuts, seeds and dried fruit so you could at least make up museli.
The service in the main buffet restaurant was very poor. We had been told beforehand by people who had stayed here that if you tip, then you get good service. This certainly appeared to be the case! We sat for 20 minutes one day in the restaurant before I called a waiter over to ask him for a drink! There had been plenty of people who had come in after us who had been offered drinks. The waiters explanation was, they had looked after those people first as they were older! Outrageous! I am prepared to tip if I've had good service but most certainly not tipping just to get a good service.
Al a carte restaurants: Food was great, however, the indian restaurant, waiters were miserable and service pretty poor. The manager seemed very friendly though.

The staff certainly need more training on how to deliver 5* customer service.

On the whole, we thoroughly enjoyed the holiday because of the great food and location. We are thinking of returning here in Sept/Oct this year to this hotel but with lower expectations.

We have just returned from the Royal Grand Azure, which First Choice describe as a 5 star hotel. This was our 6th visit to Sharm, and the most disappointing. The hotel is far too big and is unable to cater for its guests in an acceptable manner. The lack of staff in the restaurants is most annoying. Tables are not cleared and there are no waiters to bring drinks to you. They frequently run out of glasses and crockery. The hotel lacks any kind of atmosphere and the entertainment is poor. Reception staff and guest relations are unhelpful. The public toilets are not well maintained. We did not enjoy our stay here and would definitely not recommend it.
