Cleopatra Luxury Resort Sharm El Sheikh

We’ve just come back from a week’s stay at The Cleopatra Luxury Resort in Sharm el Sheikh and it was absolutely fabulous! The hotel is immaculate and very plush. The 2 pools are wonderful and the views are stunning. The grounds are beautifully kept as is the hotel. We spent all but 1 day by the infinity pool and just enjoyed relaxing in beautiful surroundings. The staff were very helpful and friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. The pool boys were lovely and enjoyed chatting. We had lunch at the Beach bar a few times, a couple of times it was poolside service. We didn’t find the service slow – it took as long as it should to cook our food.

We went into Naama Bay one night and it was an experience to say the least! It was good fun but we didn’t go back as it wasn’t what we wanted from our holiday - to be surrounded by typical badly dressed and badly behaved tourists. This is where a lot of the All Inclusive hotels are based and you can tell. We read the Trip Advisor reviews before we booked our holiday and chose The Cleopatra Luxury Resort because it was a good 20 min taxi ride away from Naama Bay and it wasn’t in a busy area. It was so nice to have a few shops outside the back of the hotel that you could walk to in the evening and to be able to sit and watch the evening entertainment whilst having a relaxed drink in the hotel.

If you are the kind of person that wants to go in to Naama Bay each night then you shouldn’t be staying in a luxury hotel like The Cleopatra as it’s not for that type of person. Why are people complaining about the low key entertainment and that nothing is going on – it’s not supposed to be like every other hotel in Sharm, it’s much better! We thought the food was great and there was plenty of choice in the Market Restaurant each night. We ate in the Italian one night which was amazing! Ok it wasn’t a la carte as stated on the website but the set menu was fab. We wanted to eat in the fish restaurant but didn’t manage it – next time we will as the it overlooks the sea.

Yes the service was pretty slow for drinks at mealtimes but I honestly think it’s because it’s a new hotel and they’re finding their feet. What’s the rush for drinks anyway – you’re on holiday! Unless the hotel is given constructive criticism about these things they won’t know so perhaps it’s kinder to tell the hotel rather than moan about it on Trip Advisor ........

My husband and I are stunned at the bad reviews as we can honestly say it was a wonderful holiday and we will be going back!

A bit of info for first timers in Sharm:

The hotel is located about 15 kilometers from Naama Bay, the only real township in Sharm El Sheik with plenty of restaurants, bars and markets, and 4 kilometers from the center of Nabq which is really just a 100 meter strip with TGIF, McDonalds, Burger King & Star Bucks. Nabq has no town but small supermarkets can be found along the main road of Nabq.
So for anything of interest outside the resort you will have to taxi to Naama Bay.
-Also DON'T TOUCH THE CORALS...they will die and then the fish disappears and snorkeling in the Red Sea without colourful fish is really not that interesting.

This is our 3rd visit to Sharm (previously Hilton Dream & Marriot Mountain in Naama Bay) and here are the pro and cons as we have experienced them over the last fourteen days:

Pros:

This is a new hotel and the resort and build is definitely 5 star worthy by Egyptian standard, but only 4 star by European standard. At closer inspection most build details are not cared for in a way you expect at a 5 star hotel in Europe.

The arrangement of buildings and pool areas are beautifully laid out in the resort.

Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful especially the yellow shirts.

The design of the rooms is more European like and has a great style and touch of luxury.

The resort has free internet.

Cons:

Spoiler: Because this hotel just opened in April only 10% of the resort facilities are ready here in September. So no Wellness center, spa, Fitness Club, Diving Center or shopping arcade. No shuttle bus and no banking facilities. Also the staff does not carry change in general so you will have problems using large (50, 100 & 200s) bills at the resort. Also no pool parties were held during our stay even though this is listed as entertainment on the web.

The boardwalk into the sea was not completed (and no work in progress) so snorkeling was not possible from the hotel. This a big disappointment for a Red Sea resort.

Food quality is a little above average and far from 5 star, and is limited to two restaurants for dining. One is a market restaurant like most hotels, the other is an Italian a la carte restaurant but with no a la carte. Instead the a la carte has been replaced by a daily running menu. Two days a week the Italian restaurant is closed and the Sea Food restaurant is then available, but overall the dining on the resort is extremely limited. The Snack Bar food is below average except for their homemade pizzas.

Although the staff for the most part is very friendly the resort quickly becomes short staffed in peak times and especially the pool service needs a lot more attendance or at least some consistency. Also the majority of staff is very poor at English making it very hard to communicate problems or issues, although the yellow shirts (area managers) do a little better and are extremely service minded.

There seem to be great confusion among the staff as to what is offered for various services. E.g. late breakfast is supposedly available in the Snack Bar, but the staff was not aware only the front desk managers.

Drinks: 5 different beers are listed on the resort drink menu, but only Stella and Heineken is available. Same with the cocktails where 9 are listed on the resort drink menu but at least 3 could not be made due to lack of ingredients over a period of 14 days.
Also the hotel was short of Diet Coke for 3 days even though this is available in every local supermarket.

The evening entertainment (singing & dancing on stage) is below average and extremely loud and because the outside areas of the two restaurants are situated around the stage the entertainment can be quite disturbing when you're dining.

Overall it's a very beautiful resort but we would rate the hotel only 3 out of 5 stars in the current state, but I'm sure the hotel could earn 4 stars by the end of the year if a lot of the above is sorted, but in our opinion there's a long way to go to earn the listing as a 5 star hotel & resort, even by Egyptian standard...

We reserved this hotel during September 9-14.

Pros:
It is really amazing overall.
The reception area is very welcoming. The staff is friendly.
The rooms are big and comfortable. The most notable equipments were big beds and a nice LCD TV, as well as the balcony. Their shower is also beautiful.
We were on half board, so we had breakfast and dinner. Food was varied and we enjoyed it.
It's wonderful to walk in this resort when it's not too hot, while enjoying the green areas and the colored flowers. The pools are nicely designed and situated.
If you tip someone, they become your best friend.

Cons:
I agree with a previous review about the slowness in serving coffee, tea, water, or soft drinks, but it was too exaggerated. Well maybe they took about 5 minutes to serve you - not 30 minutes. You are charged for water and soft drinks during dinner, and they're expensive compared to outside. For example, a bottle of water costs 20 EGP whereas it costs 3 EGP in a Neama Bay market.
The hotel has markets around it, but you have to walk long distances from the room to the hotel exit. Maybe some air conditioned paths would have helped.
The pools are not deep; 140cm is the deepest location I have encountered. The paths around the pool are very slippery.
The beach isn't ready yet. It is full of rocks underwater, so you can’t walk on it without shoes. You can’t even swim because it’s very superficial.
It is far away from Neama Bay, but you can take a taxi at 50 EGP. Caution: they drive crazily fast. I personally did not like Neama Bay; it is so crowded and all you can smell is waterpipes.
