“Excellent value for money,”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2009

I found no faults with the hotel, all the staff went out of their way to be friendly, service very good, food excellent , good variety. Wonderful value for money. May I suggest a few things though, I suggest a hand rail being put in the main pool where the walk in is that has no steps, I say this as my partner didn't go in the pool at all as he was too nervous getting in the water without a rail to hold on to. Also he was unble to go to the shops across the road with me as the pavements were very steep. I noticed that one of the hotels further down had a flat walkway going from the hotel right across the road to the shops. This would be an excellent change. I was disappointed at the lack of shops belonging to the hotel, there were much better shopping facilities further down the road. Apart from those things, I found everything else perfect. Beautiful hotel and gardens, nice quiet location. No noise from discos.

Having been somewhat unnerved prior to leaving for Hauza Beach Resort by the mixed reviews this hotel seems to attract, I thought I'd tried to summarise this place in a concise and balanced way for anyone like me (late-20's, London city professional travelling with boyfriend) to try and reassure you if what you're looking for is a relaxing week with guaranteed sunshine.

This hotel is not 5-star. Anybody who turns up believing they are in for a week of luxurious splendour obviously hasn't been to Egypt or Asia before.

The site probably isn't suitable for those with any sort of mobility difficulties, because it is vast and extensively landscaped. Nabq Bay is still being developed so there are bits of construction going on in places, but not obtrusively. There isn't much to see apart from desert, but then you'd go to Upper Egypt / Luxor if you wanted sightseeing, not Sinai / Red Sea.

The rooms are basic, but they are clean. The service isn't very 'on the ball', but the staff are friendly and you get what you need eventually and always with a smile.

The food isn't gourmet, but it is plentiful with lots of variety (and thankfully not just chips and burgers but 'proper' food with some traditional Egyptian options). Drinks are served in tiny plastic cups, but you can always order four at a time...

We found the animation team incessently annoying, but as Hauza is such a large site we pretty much always found an escape from the banging tunes and persistent requests to join in their activities. A morning of sunbathing at the main pool followed by an afternoon on the 'quite beach' (sic) worked a treat.

All we wanted to do was swtich off and sunbathe in peace and we certainly managed to do just that at Hauza. Leave your 5-star expectations at home and hopefully you'll have just as relaxing a week as we did.

This is NOT a 5 star hotel. Ive stayed in better 3 star hotels!!!!

We found our poolside room to be clean, and the facilities for the kids (pool, slides and beach) to be great, HOWEVER everything else was awful. Food is tastless mush. Drinks serverd in plastic cups (like you get at school) and were most undrinkable. Staff werent that helpful - when I asked for some fruit at breakfast they looked at me as if I had stepped of another plant.

Loved Eygpt - wouldnt go back to this hotel if you paid me. I would advise you dont even bother to book

We stayed at the Hauza resort for 2 weeks from the 5th October. The weather was fantastic each day, absolutely red hot! When we landed we had to queue to fill in a visa type form, after about an hour we were on our way to the hotel. The hotel reception looks really nice and staff are friendly. We were put on a transport bus (exhaust fumes nearly choked us!) that took us to our room! (Wacky races!).
Once in our room we were disappointed with the standard. it was clean but needed updating, especially the bathroom (cracked, chipped tiles, grout over sinks and taps and a million ants!).
we then decided to have a look around the resort, it is very big and our room was right by the main pool which was good. There are a lot of steps, floors are uneven and there are steep hills so i wouldn't recommend this hotel if you struggle to walk.
the food isn't great, not a great choice but edible, and usually very similar menu each day, drinks are only served in little plastic cups, so if you do go here, take your own plastic pint glasses! there is only 1 type of beer and the vodka tastes like paint stripper! The waiters are friendly but not very quick to tidy up or ask you for a drink!
Water isnt provided (only in the small cups), you have to buy bottles, I would recommend you go to the shop over the road (totti market) for water, gallon of water costs less than £2 there, (although that is the only thing you should buy from there because they think you are rich and try and rip you off, so barter with them for other items such as snorkels!)
There seemed to be quite a few men in the hotel who got the dreaded stomach bug! If you do get this then go to the chemist (again there is one across the road!) expect to pay around £30 for the tablets they give!
the animation team are great, Leo, Christina, Oscar and Igor, (stretching, aqua gym and water polo springs to mind!) they are great and really friendly. The shows arnt too great, but Oscar is a great dancer.
you do have to get up early if you want a lounger by the main pool, by about 8.30am they are pretty much taken up! the jungle pools are fun aswell, not many rules apply so you can go down them which ever way you like!
snorkelling is fantastic off the jetty. If you arnt a strong swimmer, I would recommend that you snorkel in the shallow part. Off the jetty the currents can be really strong which tend to take you away a little, its very deep aswell, you cant see the floor! we regularly took bread from the restaurant to feed the fish, they loved it, amazing coloured and sized fish appear from no where!
we mainly stayed around the main pool each day, we met some lovely friendly people. although while you are trying to relax there are quite a few people coming round asking if you want to go on trips or have a massage etc, this can get quite annoying they are friendly, just a bit pushy!
We went out of the hotel a few times, we went to an English pub called the 3 crowns! they have great beer, a large screen and excellent steak and chips, McDonalds (that has the largest meals you have ever seen!) and a chinese restaurant called Peking (very nice), this is all about 3 quarter of an hour walk from the hotel or a 10 min taxi away (always barter with the taxi's!).
The money can get a little confusing, shops inside the hotel are priced in euro's, outside the hotel is egyptian currency and the airport duty free in US dollars???? You also can't exchange travellers cheques within the hotel.
Any way, if you have already booked this hotel, I dont want to put a downer on it, because it isnt all bad and a holiday is what you make of it, but the hotel definately isnt a 5 star, maybe at a push 3 star!

On arrival our taxi was not permitted to enter the complex so we had to drag our luggage from the main gate to reception. We were met by a member of staff who insisited we leave our luggage outside (for anyone to help themselves to) whilst we checked in. There was another coach arriving at the same time so we were treated as a group and instructions for different facilities in the complex were shouted to us by the reception staff. We were then hearded on mass onto, what can only be described as a 'cattle truck' our luggage put on the back and driven to our blocks. Whilst in transit my case fell of the back of the truck which smashed some of our toileteries causing them to leak into our clothes etc.

We were pleasantly surprised by our suite (for which we had paid a substantial amount of money) but disapointed by the fridge only containing a bottle of water which was the full extent of our 'ration' for the 10 days of our stay.

We then went into the dinning room hoping to have dinner but it was already 8.30pm and there were only what can be discribed as 'slop' left in the different containers. We thought this was because most of the food had already gone because it was late and hoped for a better meal the following day. After this disapointment we decided to go into the bar and have a drink. A nice glass of wine would help us relax into our holiday we thought. We were presented with a plastic beaker containing what can only be described as the finest vinegar in the hotel! it was undrinkable, this included the red, white and rose (we sampled them all in the hope it would improve, it didn't). We decided a good night sleep was needed to recover from the long journey. Our suite over looked the pool and 24hr bar. Needless to say we were kept awake until 5.30am by people shouting, singing and screaming. The following morning after 3hrs sleep we went into the 'restaurant' for breakfast. What can I say, we were met with what can only be described as more slop! We tried to find something we could possibly eat, in the end we settled for a bowl of cereal which was a surprise as what came out the bottom of the container was not what was visible in the top! I ended up with chocolate coated cereal and watered down orange squash in a plastic cup, yummy! We then went to lounge by the pool and was met by a sea of sun beds with towels on them which we could only assume meant they were reserved at 8.30am no beds available. We went to the beach and found some beds down the opposite end to the beach bar. After a while we walked up to the bar to get some drinks and were given half a plastic beaker of water and one of larger. By the time we had walked back to our beds we needed another this continued all day. At lunch time the only food available on the beach is a pizza which is cooked fresh, hence a 15 minute wait in que as there is only 1 person cooking for the whole of the beach. Whilst relaxing enjoying the sun and sea we were constantly hasseled by different people trying to sell diving trips, excursions, camel/horse rides, wanting to take photos and charge for them, booking massages and lots more. After such a busy day we went back to our suite for a lovely hot shower, well turned it on, no water. Phoned reception to be told the whole of the area was off at present due to the pumping station being out of action, shortly after the water came on. When we spoke to other guests they had all had water! After a lovely shower (eventually) we went into the restaurant to be met by (after queing for 10 minutes) another round of hard vegetables and potatoes, dried raw chips, meat that would re-sole any good shoes but could not be chewed, chicken that is rationed to 2 small wings each, the list just goes on, oh and more lovely plastic cups of warm water or watery sqaush, or you could really have a treat and sample the wine. The plastic cups of larger were the only thing drinkable, however this is not my favourite tipple with my evening meal. Even though we were all inclusive we had to pay for real luxuries such as fruit juice, ice cream or drinkable wine.

The following day we decided that we would stoop to all time lows and reserve our sun beds around the pool. At about 8AM we went down to put our towels on our chosen beds and could not believe that already over half of them had towels on them! Whilst spending the day by the pool the hassle did not stop. We were constanly bothered by the entertainment team trying to get us to join in different activities, reps trying to sell us excursions or massages, people selling over priced newspapers which were 85p in England they were charging £7 for. The list just goes on. We then decided the next day we would go into the local area Naama Bay. After asking in reception we were charged 150 LE for a round trip. We thought this to be a lot of money but didn't think the hotel would be 'ripping' it's own guests off (how wrong can you be). The next day we used the taxi outside the hotel gates and haggled eventually paying 100LE. The following day we decided due to the lack of entertainment in the hotel we would try to local bus into town. This cost 12LE for 2persons round trip! The bus driver was very helpful and spoke good English. Because of the poor standard of food and drink we felt we could not longer eat in the hotel so decided after 3 days of being hungry, to eat out. This was just not good enough because we had not budgeted for this and had already paid for our meals at the hotel.

We decided we had had enough of being ripped off. There were many unhappy guests in the hotel everyone we spoke to said they could not eat the food and the drink was unacceptable. Many had made complaints and the management decided to call a meeting of the guests. We could not and would not attend as we had planned to go out. We arranged to see the lovel Mohammed (public relations manager). We explained to him that we were very unhappy with the hotel it was not a 5* or even a 3*. He was clearly not interested, he sat there looking at his watch and not answering our questions, hence we gave up.

Prior to our booking we read some of the reviews on this site, we decided to ignore the bad reviews and go with the good ones thinking it couldn't be that bad. Believe me it is and worse. On our 4th day we both started with upset stomaches. Most of the people in the hotel had some sort of bug. The Dr was in and out all the time, giving people injections, antibiotics and putting them on drips to hydrate them. Whilst out in the local areas we spoke to people who had worked there no one had a good word to say. From the beach it resembles a consentration camp. We nicknamed it 'tenco' and that is the way we will remember the worst holiday we have ever had, we go abroad at least 3 times a year! Please don't hesitate to contact us before you even consider this resort!

I can see how some people may get a little ott when writing the rviews as some people we spoke to we goin mad about the place. However, we had a fantastic time and got exactly what we went for relaxation and sun. From the moment we walked through the door, the staff and bell boys did everything for us including driving us to our room and carryin bags up the stairs for us. On arrival we got a free upgrade to a deluxe sea view room which was fantastic, very clean and the cleaner who came every day was brilliant, leave him a pound tip and ul get alsorts of suprises. The staff love english pound coins, select a few staff and tip them english pound coins and they will do anything for you as they get paid very poorly and make the money up from tips. The pools were always very clean and tidy and altho u have to get up early to get decent sunbeds you ca always leave towels then go back to bed, however i recommend snorkelling first thing as the sea is so warm and refreshing and the fish swimming around u are amazing especially napolean. The food was very samey and could give you a bad stomach at times. a 2 minute taxi ride could take you to Nabq bay where there are loads of resteraunts and shops but i do suggest going to the three crowns bar for a steak and cheap drinks. The steak was the best i ever had. also there is a proper supermarket there which is very cheap and worth the taxi ride as the 1 over the road from the complex is very expensive in comparison. For taxi's haggle, naama bay should cost you no more then 60 L E either way and Nabq Bay no more than 25 L E. Naama Bay for us was an awful experience, every 1 trying to get u in their shops and if u do go in can get very aggressive if you dont want to buy anything, same with people on the streets they promise you a good deal then try to put prices up especially at the smokey bars, i definataly wouldn't go back to naama bay i'd end up in jail. What an experience the taxi rides are too some can make your life flash before your eyes especially when they do a u turn then reverse half a mile down a dual carriage way with cars coming towards you, altho you very rarley see a battered car or truck. Round the corner from the three crowns is a shop that sells paintings on papyrus paper, the chap in there is very friendly and will do anything to help you without trying to rip you off which is very very unusual over there. We bought 1 each at a very very good price for what it is. Overall i would go back knowing what i know now about the various bars and shops outside the complex, i cant fault the staff they do all they can for you, just be prepared to go out to eat sometimes which is not expensive in the slightest for what you get.
The animation team have got some good reviews on here but imo they are just annoying and a couple of them could be quite rude and as for the reps have a laugh and a joke with then and they are ok and generally dont hassle you too much but dont buy the excursions from them on our last day we found st georges bar in Nabq Bay which was doing them a lot cheaper

After reading numerous reviews on tripadvisor before flying out to eygpt i was worried about what to expect in hauza. My worries were quickly banished. Hauza is a wonderful holiday experience for couples, friends or families. There is entertainment suitable for all to enjoy. The animation team are second to none, always trying to make your stay more enjoyable (kristina and aqua gym, igor and water polo, our very own welsh boy leo, vanja, kimo, tito, oscar, adriano, the list goes on) all fantasitic people and really good at what they do. whilst we were there alot of people complained about the food. I dont understand why. There are three meal times in the main restaurant all serve different food constantly. We were there for two weeks and never had the same main meal twice, yes the staples were the same the rice dishes and the potatoes but a wide variety of meat was offered daily. The lamb is to die for. In between these allocated meal times there is also hot food served by the pool and a pizza place down by the beach all included in the price of your stay . I worked out if u deduct the flight cost from the price of our holiday it actually only cost £125 a week for a room that was cleaned daily with fresh towels provided daily, as much food and drink as required entertainment almost every evening (even the entertainment crew need a night off), two fabulous pools and a private beach and of course the guaranteed weather. In the uk you couldnt stay in a travel lodge for a week for that price and that doesnt even include breakfast. Me and Carla had a fab time here i would definatly go here again either with friends or my partner. Love to all the staff x
