Reviewed 25 November 2013

ok before saying anything, one needs to adjust the expectations, this is Egypt so a 5 stars there is merely a 4 stars in the UK, and once your mind is well tuned, you are bound to enjoy this great resort.

We spent two wonderful weeks (maybe 10 days would have been enough for us though) in this hotel, and seriously thinking of rebooking again for next year. We booked flights with easyjet 4-5 month earlier so got cheap tickets and booked the hotel for a ridiculous price (the price for 2 weeks for 3 people flights included is half the price we paid for 1 week for two people in Caribbean or Maldives....so really hard to understand why people complain about minor issues, the money is a major issue after all and this hotel knocks a lot of the out of the park).

CHECK IN:
we had a private transfer (I advise to take that either with the hotel or not but try and beat the crowd from the airport to the hotel so that you don’t wait around for long) so were almost alone in front of the desk, check in took about 10 minutes (of which 8 were jokes and laughs with my baby boy). I did a mail to request a room with specific instructions, and the room I got mainly matched these although it wasn’t a refurbished one (felt a bit more like a 3.5 stars, more on that later).

ROOM:
we asked for a room by the active pool as I thought better to be close to the kids pool, but we eventually asked for a change as the active pool is really active, ie noisy, nothing wrong with that, but doesn’t suit a family that naps between 1pm and 4 every day!!!
The first room we were given was the 304, first floor right next to the reception and the leisure centre and kids club, but noise was too much for us. It was the older version, with a seriously dated bathroom, a big fat tv that didn’t work properly BUT it was a family room, i.e. a massive and comfy super king bed and two bunk beds (we booked a normal room with a small extra bed) so that kind of made up for it. but the noise chase us out of it, and the following I asked reception for a change. took me 2 minutes to get two additional keys, asked me to go check out the rooms and choose. I was given room 704, which was around the relaxation pool, ground floor, again very similar to the 300's i.e. a bit dated (we didn’t take it as was ground floor, so not ideal with a toddler), the second was on the second floor of the rooms around the relaxation pool, and it was just bang on.
the 1800's rooms are ALL refurbished, and I would advise all to go for these as it changes the charm of the holiday. The room was as spacious as the previous ones, with a brand new bathroom (no bathtub though), same bunk beds, same comfy huge bed and a flat screen working TV, we suddenly went from 3 to 4.5 stars instantly. and having to carry the buggy 2 stories was worth it really.
All rooms came with kettle and tea/coffee, hairdryer, small safe and loads of storage space (2 massive wardrobes and even storage under the bunk beds). The cleaning is good, not my wife/mum standards but it is very clean by every measure, and if you leave a small tip to the cleaner you are rewarded with a nice art with the towels, although our cleaner started doing that regardless as he was the nicest man.

FOOD:
6 restaurants to choose from, 5 clustered next to each other and you could walk through them all hence you are not stuck to eating the same style if your partner don’t want to. they have the Italian (closest to the relaxation pool, and the only one that is open for late breakfast, as all others finish breakfast at 10 and this one stays open till 11.30, now this changes things a lot), second is the tagine which is a mix between Moroccan and Egyptian, open for breakfast, burgers and fries for lunch and dinner till 10pm. next there is the ZumKeiser, apparently supposed to be German, but looked all English to me with pies and sausages...this one is the option for late dinner as it stays open till 11.30pm. I would think that all the food that is prepared in other restaurants at night and is not eaten finds its way there, not saying it is not fresh, but i suspect it is a (smart) way not to throw any food and keeping hungry clients satisfied. number 4 is the Mediterranean, which offers pizzas, all sorts of pastas and some nice dishes from Portugal Spain France.... one of our favourites. Number 5 is the Asiatique, mainly Indian food, but something that is a bit Chinese creeps up. The last one is the beach restaurant, only open for lunch, and has the same thing every day (burgers/hot dog, pastas, chicken nuggets and fries and some salads), but perfect if you are on the beach or on the kids pool and want to have a quick bite.
I feel that I need to flag that there is a small area called kids restaurant, with tiny little tables and chairs that offers kids friendly food (pasta, nuggets, sweetcorn...), very handy for the fussy little ones.
We never tried the white elephant.
For comprehensiveness, I think one should point out that despite all the types of restaurants, it does hit you sometime that it is all the same thing, just cooked differently, and may feel a bit heavy sometimes (for example quail a la Portuguese in the Mediterranean and quail a la Egyptian in tagine...) but do not let that put you off, there is so much choice that one is bound to eat well anyway.
Finally, every day, the hotel open the doughnut and the pancakes bar, a nice addition I think, especially if you compare it to the stingy all inclusive in other places.
Drinks are perfect for non-alcohol drinkers as the supply of juice (mainly from concentrate) and soft drinks (main brands) is nonstop, but we don’t drink alcohol so can’t judge, but to my untrained eye, the whiskey and the rum looked the same and the gin and the vodka were probably from the same bottle (only kidding!! But reviews on this are not that positive)

GROUNDS/POOLS:
this is where the hotel excels. There are 4 of them (heated pool, relaxation pool, active pool and kids pool which is also heated) and all are spotless clean. life guards around the whole day, and water treatment and cleaning every 2h or so, so from the cleaning perspective 10/10. The heated pool is a small pool that does what it says on the tin, heats you up as the other pools tend to become very cold in winter time, the relaxation should be called the tanning salon as no one swims in it almost as the area is so calm and quiet, but the pool is just perfect. The active is the heart of it all, really really massive, where they organise all kinds of games (volleyball, water polo, aerobics, diving training...) yet you never bump into anyone as it is very very large and with the pool bar next to it making it very nice. The kids pool is for us the highlight as we spent most of the time around it. it has 9 or 10 slides for the kids, it is barely 50cm deep, so you can easily relax by the pool read or drink and know that the little ones won’t move from the pool as it is too much fun. again it is heated so doesn’t hurt them.

The rest of the hotel offers many grass to play in, a nice playground for the kids, beach volleyball, tennis, football, mini golf, a bike/electric toy car rental, plus a diving centre. it isn’t just a pretty hotel it has loads to do too.

Worth mentioning that one of the annoying things in the hotels are the salesmen for the spa, they will harass you unless you have a red flag from the reception or if you are clear enough with them that you are not interested, they are very friendly though, but they do come at bad times when you are just falling asleep under the sun or the real killer is about to be revealed in your book...

BEACH:
We went to sharm no expecting much sea, and as a matter of fact having gone sailing around sharm, a lot of the hotel have something they call the beach front but they are merely steps carved in rocks overlooking the sea, this hotel though offers more than a beautiful beach. The beach is divided in three, the first 500/600m are a nice (and surprisingly very warm) shallow sea, it goes between 50cm to a max of 1m, and the fauna/flora is 100 times better than you average sea front. Then there is a small drop (average of 1.2-1.5m deep) of pure turquoise area which then leads to the real deep sea which is abundant of fish and coral that will amaze you. There is a pontoon that goes over the shallow area into the deep one, with steps all the way and some nice tanning spots with big beds, but nothing beats “walking” in the sea. Definitely suited us with our little toddler as the water is calm and clear that it felt like a pool.

ENTERTAINMENT:
We went and not even thought of it as we expected some lame shows and a total waste of time, little did we know that without this we would have been really bored, especially with regards to the little one. The team spend the day by the active pool with all kind of activities (one of them is overlooking the kids club, which is a large room with enough toys and a large TV with movies, good place to leave the kids for a couple of hours) but at 8pm the Kids Disco started. Although it was the same songs being repeated but the kids just loved it, acting like crazy and shouting and dancing is the perfect way to make them spend some leftover energy for a good night sleep. After that the “show” started, it was your typical hotel show, with dancers and pranksters, fire show and some oriental dancing, again if you expect the royal opera house performances then you’re bound to get disappointed, if you are there with a nice cocktail then it suits perfectly.

We tend to travel to different places every year (the world is a large place) but given the value for money, we are more than happy to come back here.

Any questions please do not hesitate to contact me, I would recommend this place in a heartbeat, bravo RAM very good job overall.

Room Tip: 1800 are all refurbished, dont take an old room, it feels like a totally different hotel

Stayed here in may for two weeks we had a wonderful time so much so that we returned in November for another week. The staff are very friendly and courteous they are there to help in any thing that you may need, the rooms are kept spotless with lovely towel art on the beds to make you smile.there are a lot of different restaurants to choose from or you can just wander from one to the other choosing something from each . Pools are spotlessly clean with plenty of sunbeds to choose from. there is a long jetty that you can snorkel of the sea is nice and warm with lots of different kinds of fish to see. would highly recommend a relaxing holiday here with most helpful kind staff always on hand to be of service. Beautiful blue skys and sunshine every day what more could you ask. Happy to say we will be back in may.

Our first experience staying in an all inclusive resort and in Sharm. All staff helpfull, friendly very attentive. Salah from the Tagine restaurant and Elamir at the active pool bar gave exception service. Everywhere was clean, rooms serviced to a high standard. To sum it up Great value holiday, did the job. Recharged our batteries. Will consider returning next year.

Stayed here firstly with our daughter and had a wonderful time, staff were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Lovely rooms, clean and comfortable, close to pool and amenities. Enjoyed stay so much I came back with my husband for a two week stay this time. Will be staying here on our next trip to Sharm. The on site diving staff were very good also.

My partner and our 3 old son first stayed at the RAM back in May for one week and loved it, our only issue then was that our room was so far away from the active pool, we still raved about it when we got home so much that we vowed to return later in the year with my partners mother step dad and his daughter, I emailed the hotel and informed them I would be returning and asked if it would be possible to have a ground floor room facing the active pool, I had a quick response explaining that they would see what they could do subject to availability. We booked up for the 11th nov for 10 days and straight away once we arrived I was informed by reception that our rooms were exactly where we had asked, this was just perfect for us and our little boy, on our first day most the staff remembered us and were just as helpful and as they were in May, the food was great always a good choice and variety, our favourite has to be the Italian! The pool area for kids is great, our little boy loved it, and if you want a change of scenery the beach is only a 2 minute walk away! We were not that impressed with the entertainment during our first visit, however we were happy to see that it had improved massively and it was clear to see how hard the animation team were working, especially the kids mini disco, our son loved it during our last visit and took a liking to a particular song ( baby hands up ) after a few nights we hadn't heard it and he was disappointed, my partner simply requested to one of the animation team ( Michel ) if we could hear it that night and he gladly obliged, Michel who was a very funny guy and brilliant with the kids, kept his promise and played it every night just for our little lad, which we really appreciated. We Also really enjoyed the 3 professional dancers who were brilliant

We had some photos done whilst we were there, the photographer who was called Mido did a fantastic job and captured some great shots of us, I would recommend visiting him, you can find them just on the beach next to the mini golf course.

My partner and I can't say enough about how much we love this hotel it really ticks all the boxes, our room was well looked after and Ahmed kept us amused with some great towel art on our bed :)

If you want a holiday that's great value for money, good for family's, with 6 great restaurants to choose from, excellent service and brilliant staff then look no further than the royal albatros moderna

We shall be returning next year that's for sure
