“1st holiday together”
Reviewed 23 March 2013

We had a wonderful ten days here in early march 2013. It was our first holiday away together and both our first times all inclusive. Everywhere inside the complex was spotless clean and the staff are amazing. We were made especially welcome by Wageh who although extremely busy made time to explain what everything was. The food became a tad repetative but we ate well all the same. It is well worth leaving the complex and going on a boat trip to ras muhammed or Tiran island. Don't rush to buy one off your rep - get their prices and then go and try one of the tour companies down by the beach. We didn't and they appear much better value. The pools were spotless clean and the bars never ran out of drinks which was rather amazing as the russians were exceedingly thirsty- obviously there is a vodka drought in their homeland. We didn't take much notice of the entertainment but the noise considerately finished at 23:00hrs. We will definitely return. A big thankyou to all the staff especially Wageh and his team in the top restaurant.

Room Tip: The "Orca" block of rooms has a fantastic view of the grounds, beach and sea.

Just returned home from a lovely week. The Egyptians defiantly treat us better than the Russians but we personally didn't have a problem with them. Weather was in the 30s every day didn't need a jacket in the evening. We stayed at the nino pool area as this was defiantly the most peaceful pool Mohammed will certainly sort your sunbed out for the week so you don't have to worry about getting up early and reserving your very comfortable sunbed every day they run a very good towel card system which works really well. Their was entertainment on four of the nights around this pool we tried nuts bar one night but wasn't for us it seemed a shame to waste the lovely weather of the evening outside. We ate mostly in the palamora restaurant as again this was the most quietest some of the food could of done with being a bit hotter and breakfast wasn't that great but u certainly won't go hungry. The gardens are beautifully maintained the rooms are cleaned every day with clean towels and you get a bottle of water in your room every day. We did go up to the Union Jack bar a few times to get the free wifi and didn't get hassled by the locals. Overall for the price we paid we would defiantly recommend this hotel the staff are all lovely and will do anything for you we met some lovely people which made are holiday would defiantly return.

Despite very varied reviews from people who are clearly looking for different things, this hotel is absolutely fantastic if you are looking for;

- HOT WEATHER (just returned from a week 14th - 21st March) Was 37 degrees when we arrived and didn't drop much below 30 all week). Cold enough for jeans and cardi in evening (due to wind). Barely a cloud in the sky all week!

- RELAXATION (none of the bars at the hotel or within walking distance are lively. Don't be suprised about being barged out of the way by ignorant Russians - in the main they really are as rude as all these reviews suggest)! The bars and restaurants are relaxed and great for couples, families with young children or singles looking to relax and unwind for the week. There are 3 main pools to choose from, some quieter than others. If you like music and aqua gym - head to the beach side pool - it's busy but always a sun bed and lots of activity! Special thanks to Sam (one of the local guys who ran the aqua gym - awesome vibe)! The quieter pools are further from the beach and both have their own pool side bars and snack bars.

Be prepared for and don't be surprised by:

Hassle by the pool side (especially on your first day or two). You will be hassled by various people trying to sell you Arabian nights, boat trips, scuba diving, massages, spa sessions, submarine trips....BEST person to book Quad Biking and Arabian night with is Mario (NOT Marcus!) They fight between each other to sell the same thing and Mario always looses out on his commission to Marcus! Take your time and ask them to leave you to think about what you want to do! If you are assertive and polite they will all leave you to it. Don't promise anything to them until you make your mind up! It can get a bit awquard!

The boat trip we booked by the pool was GREAT - and only £20 from 8am - 4pm. You get picked up, taken to harbour and head out all day on a lovely boat, plenty of snorkelling opportunities, nice lunch, great for sun bathing and you can scuba too if you want to. Best value trip and quite luxurious!

Arabian night was a let down - not the culture we were hoping for. It was very naff and geared up for people who like disco lights and a big stage in the middle of no where with little entertainment. Food was good and a gorgeous clear night to see the stars! Friends did quad biking and said it was excellent fun and well worth it!

Drinking in Sharm Nama bay was expensive wherever you went. If you want a big boozy night out then the Hard Rock Cafe in Nama bay was good fun but average drink price was best part of £5 a drink. Expect to be asked to pay to get in by people on the street before you get close to the bar. You can negotiate to have free entry but you have to be stern and persistent. Local Egyptian cafe bars were nice and more interesting that some of the big clubs (Pacha, Hard Rock and Little Budda). Taxi from Grand Plaza to Nama bay is 50 Egyptian pounds each way - they ask for 100 so negotiate on 50!

Very few mozzies around, clean rooms, grounds very well cared for, pools very clean but average food (what would you expect for the price!). Plenty of choice but all very similar. Avoid shell fish - it's not fresh!!

All in all, a great holiday, very relaxing, great weather, very clean and safe! Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing week away for very little money!

We just returned from a 7 day holiday at the Grand Sharm Resort and had a great time.

We have been to Sharma 7 times and stayed at different hotels each time. Last year we stopped at the Hilton at Sharks Bay with we rated very highly. In this case we felt the resort lacked a couple of things like a nice sandy beach and variation of food. However it is a good value option.

GUESTS
I would estimate that 60% of the guests are Russian and 20% British and the same number of Italians. They can be easily identified by the colour of the wrist bands. This helps communication both with staff and between guests.

FOOD
My review is mainly positive as the only thing that lets this resort down is the variety of food. The quality is very good but it seemed that random dishes were served without any thought as to the accompaniments.

For example, they served very nice Beef Wellington but there were no vegetables like carrots or anything to a accompany it. The seafood night had whole (smallish) crabs served but no way to eat them. I think most people thought they were soft shelled or prepared so the top shell would reveal some tasty crabmeat but all I found was mush!

There was always a decent selection of salad available but at lunch there was no cold meat/fish available even though there was at breakfast.

Breakfast was quite good but don't expect bacon. Omelettes were prepared as well as fried eggs and scrambled eggs and a selection of lovely breads as well as fairly comprehensive continental breakfast options - meat/ cheese etc.

There was fresh pasta prepared at lunch and dinner in both restaurants. There was generally chips available for dinner. However It would be difficult to feed children from the choices available.

DRINKS
Wine was available with dinner only but beer and soft drinks were available at lunch and dinner.

There is a lounge bar on the Lobby level with a balcony overlooking the pools but as its a cash bar, it's deserted which seems a total waste of a good relaxed space.

There is some "segregation" between guests as Italians have there own entertainers and there are Russian areas. The Brits had use of the Nuts Disco until 11pm for drinks and to meet other Brits. At the stroke of 11pm the lights dim, the disco lights ignite, the music cranks up and this area turns into a disco and a place for all nationalities to "throw some shapes" although it seemed to be mainly Russians who swarmed in after 11pm.

ACCOMMODATION
We had a family room in the Tiran block which overlooks the pool and coast. The room had two king sized double beds as well as two sofa beds and a decent sized balcony. Very clean a smart decor. At first the air on seemed inadequate but was fixed within 10 minutes of my call to guest services.

BEACH
Like most hotels along this coast, the first 100 yards of sea is too shallow to swim in and very rocky so not suitable for children. However, most hotels have long jettys which reach out over the shallow area to the edge of the coral reef. It is OK to snorkel off the end of these Jettys. However on a couple of days the current was unsafe for all but strong swimmers and closed completely on one day due to rough sea conditions. I witnessed Emad, the security/safety guy assist a couple of people who got caught out snorkelling when the current was strong and finding it difficult to get back to the jetty.

POOLS
The Pool areas are large and lovely with lots if space and shaded areas. They don't allow reserving of loungers which makes a big difference. There are plenty on the beach and around the three pools soon reason to reserve anyway.

There are three outdoor pool bars including the Laguna bar which stays open until late at night and is very popular.

Just returned from our first trip to Sharm and we will be back.
If you haven't been to Sharm before then you will be a little shocked as outside all the hotels it is a little like a wasteland, however once inside the Sharm Grand Plaza - you would be a fool to move.
The hotel is huge, much bigger than some of the others in the area acording to people we got talking to, and thats one thing you will find you do a lot of - talk to lots of Brits!
The fantastic thing is that you get 4 hours in the NUTS bar which is exclusive to Brits - you will understand why this is so good once you have experienced the Russians! Lots of people to talk to and make friends with - Big shout out to Tony and Ingrid!
Make sure you find Effat in the restaurant and slip him a quid or two - this guy will treat you like a Prince - and tell him when it is your last day for a goody bag for on the plane!
Muastafa it the head chef - he is one of the most freindly people you will ever meet -any issues with the food and ask for him to come out - you wont be dissappointed.
Someone mentioned the air-con - if you have any issues then ring reception - they basically flick a switch and it starts working.
Also, one of the guest was moaning that it was too light in the morning as the curtains didnt fully close, what this Brummy didnt realize that there was a black out blind behind the main curtain so make sure you dont miss it like he did( well thats Brummy's for ya!!)
I would have given this 5 stars however the HOTEL MANAGER must give guests FREE WIFI -
could all people who write on here mention the same as Iphone and Ipads are almost obsolete when you have to pay the massive charges you incur from your phone network.
Please make sure you tip - cleaner, gardner, towel boy , waiter etc - I took £50 in £ coins and spent the lot - but it made me feel soooooo gooood.
So in summary - great hotel but must add FREE WIFI to make me book again - I will be watching for an update.

Cheers me dears.......

Paul and Sandra

Room Tip: Tiran block was quite good

My family and I stayed at this resort first week in March and had a brilliant time. We cant wait to go back!!! From the time we arrived at the hotel we received excellent services. The staff at the front desk are always on hand to help any time of the day. The cleaner that cleaned our room everyday Sammy was so friendly, making nice animal shapes out of our towels. My little 2 year old son had a brill time. Restaurant staff always helpful and accommodating to our needs, my son is a fussy eater. But the restaurant staff always made him whatever he wanted every night. Even when we was leaving they made us a packed lunch for the flight. I would like to say a big thank you to chef Yassin Mohamed. The food was amazing! No runny bellies for us. The only negative point is the resort only had one heated pool that was too deep for the kids. Other than that a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday. Thank you Sharm Grand Plaza, you made our first trip to Egypt enjoyable.
