“Truly Fantastic Holiday!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

Myself and my partner, 23 and 25 respectively have recently arrived home from a 10 night stay at The Sharm Grand Plaza in Nabq Bay. In previous years we've travelled America and been on a few short city breaks, so this was our first lengthy beach holiday together. We got a great deal on this hotel, but chose it down to its reviews more than its price. We have both experienced many all inclusive holidays in the past, so travelled with an open mind - however the Sharm Grand Plaza exceeded all expectations. I can honestly say we didn't experience any negatives on this holiday, sure enough there are some aspects which weren't perfect, but by no means did they affect our holiday in any negative way.

The hotel and its grounds are beautiful. Really well maintained, clean and a nice mix of modern and traditional in its design. We loved our room as we were so surprised by its size. We were in the Tiran block room 1129 and would recommend this to anyone as the views over both the pool and sea were fantastic! The bathroom was also so much bigger than any hotel I've stayed in which I loved! Our cleaner was also fantastic - he gave us little gifts such as robes, recycled snorkels and beach shoes and we always had some kind of towel art - a novelty which never failed to bring a smile to our faces! Fab air con and the curtains were fab - kept the light and heat out!!!

From reading previous reviews, we weren't expecting much from the food at the hotel. We both love our food and where as my boyfriend is less fussy when it comes to variety and quality, I think both are important. This is one of the reasons why we booked a hotel with three al a carte restaurants - so we could have a break from the all-inc buffet if required. However I was pleasantly surprised! There was tons of variety, with a different theme each night. We could both always find something to eat at all 3 meals. By no means is the food Michelin star standard, but we did not expect or require this. The quality isn't the best but it is catering for the masses! Whilst the restaurant did require a bigger selection of fruit, there were impressive live cooking stations, which we visited frequently. Every night, a different meat was cooked outside on the barbeque - just delicious, we always went back for seconds. There is also a permanent pasta station where the chef asks you what ingredient you would like and cooks it fresh in just a couple of minutes, meaning you could always have a delicious bowl of pasta when the theme wasn't to your taste. The restaurant staff were also fantastic, we were pretty much served by the same waiter every day who remembered our drinks orders and made sure we were always topped up. From what I gathered the wine is boxed so wasn't the best - but it never stopped me drinking it!! As i said we went with an open mind - but experienced higher quality than what we had expected. Fussy eaters would probably find fault but we were relatively happy. We only visited one al a carte restaurant - the Italian, and had a lovely romantic dinner. The restaurant inside is beautiful and the waiter took great care to ensure we had a lovely dinner! When we return we hope to visit the seafood and oriental restaurants too as we heard good reviews from other guests.

The only other thing we weren't looking forward to was the hassle of the salesman around the pool area. We had read negative reviews about this at the sharm grand plaza and at many other hotels, and just assumed its part and parcel of holidaying in Egypt. I have to say we did experience this on the first couple of days, as the salesmen know you're new, and target you to book trips and spa packages etc. Not once did I feel uncomfortable during any of these chats, some took longer to get the message than others but generally if you say you have already booked or just give firm no thank you, they will leave you be. We generally built up some friendly banter with some of these salesmen, but they never hassled us once we'd given our answer.

That leads me on to talk about our days at the Sharm Grand Plaza as a whole. We couldn't have asked for more. Ahmed (sorry I don't know if I spelled that right) with the southern comfort sun hat ensured that we had our favourite sun loungers every day! This was fantastic as they were just off the path to our room, a couple of steps back from the pool and they were in the sun and had an umbrella if needed. We didn't even end up sunbathing on the beach because we had it so good. Although the beach is so close that we often took a stroll along it and down the jetty for a bit of snorkelling - which is just incredible! As a young couple we enjoyed the loud summery music at the main pool as it created an atmosphere throughout the day. Don't be fooled, its not all head banging dance tunes as some reviews say, they cater it to the time of the day, eg. in the afternoons (at the same time as yoga) they would play lovely chilled out music which helped us take an afternoon nap! The pools are all lovely and well maintained, so its pretty easy to find a spot that you like whether you're a family / couple / group of friends.

The heat takes a while to get used to, so in our first couple of days we'd often be up and down to the Luna Bar by one of the smaller pools. We watched, as our holiday continued, the bar develop in terms of its amenities. We found out that Zara had campaigned for a number of things requested by British guests which were being put into action continuously. These things made every day even better. Ice cream was more regular, there was a small buffet that was made permanent at the bar which included salads, chips, gorgeous fried fish and a few sandwiches. This was great for the couple of days that we didnt want to get dressed to go and sit in the restaurant but just wanted to chill outside in the sun with some friends that we had met at the hotel. The only thing I can say in regards to this is: MORE FRUIT PLEASE! Another thing that we loved about this bar was that the animation team held a quiz here every afternoon. We loved to have a crack at this with a cold afternoon pint so thanks 'Ginger' Dylan and Kelly!

The animation team were WONDERFUL! Always full of energy despite the heat and the long days! I participated in a bit of water aerobics which was fun, and helped me let go a bit - especially with the dancing at the end (no inhibitions allowed), but there was lots of other activities going on, especially for those that like to stay active on holiday. I'm normally not one to sit and watch evening entertainment, but the evening shows were actually pretty good. Moreover, its great to see how the animation team build relationships with guests of all nationalities, they really do care that you're having a good time. We went on a couple of nights out with the animation team which were both great fun! They were both beach parties funnily enough. The first is organised by the hotel - we bought tickets for £10 and didn't really know what to expect but we actually had a ball! The was a great fire show, a raffle which was a cute addition, and then just a massive party with a foam pit (which I didn't go into but the boys loved it!). The music and atmosphere were amazing, and it was definitely one of our best nights at the hotel. The second night out was an external night at a beach club down the road, this was also tons of fun, the club itself is gorgeous, and Kiss radio were dj-ing which meant the atmosphere again was electric.

Generally, we had fun each night at the hotel, our only wish was that the all inclusive aspect stopped at midnight and not 11. We felt that this was quite early for some people so the evening atmosphere would end quite abruptly. Of course there is the option to pay for drinks, but not many seemed to do this. We would often drink in NUTS bar as it was English only until 11. Mohammed the barman in NUTS was fantastic, he would surprise me with some great cocktails and we really enjoyed getting to know him. Generally, we would carry on drinking until midnight, with friends that we met at the hotel. On the whole this bar was a great place to get chatting to people. We preferred it to Lunar bar (which is the pool bar outside) due to the air con and the fact there were no mosquitoes!

Generally we had a fantastic stay at the Sharm Grand Plaza which was most of all made by the staff who couldn't do enough for you. We weren't afraid to tip as we know this is how staff in Egypt make most of their living. We tipped a couple of pound every few days to a small handful of staff that looked after us. Its not a lot and this is not because we felt obliged to but because we wanted to and appreciated their fantastic service. Some people may not agree with tipping to receive good service. At the Sharm Grand plaza good service seems to be ingrained in its ethos. However I can say we received AMAZING service and we believed that this deserved a small tip.

A young couple looking for a chilled, romantic holiday but loved the fact that there was so much interaction at the hotel. We met so many lovely people and will definitely be returning to this hotel!

Thank You Sharm Grand Plaza!

Room Tip: Tiran block has the best location!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a week at the beginning of June with a couple of our friends. This is our second stay at the hotel and we loved it just as much as the first time. Its not very often that either of us visit a hotel more than once, so it does show how much we enjoyed it and have both said we would go back again.

On arrival we were greeted with welcome drinks and the staff on reception were really helpful and friendly. They even sorted us out better rooms as we were returning guests and had a beautiful room in Tiran block overlooking the main pool and with a sea and gardens view. We had two 'single' beds which were actually the same size as our double bed at home and were really comfy! They were quite worried about us having to sleep in the single beds and said we could push them together, but there really is no worry if you get put in a twin room as the beds are really big!

One really good thing about the rooms is that they have free, working air-conditioning which instantly cools the rooms down. It is well needed in the summer months in Egypt and was a god send after a day in the sun.

The food was absolutely fine. An all inclusive hotel in Egypt has to cater for many many different nationalities, so there is always going to be things that certain people dislike and feel the need to moan about. However, this is what you should expect from this kind of hotel and there was always something we found to eat and enjoyed every meal we ate there. We didn't eat out at all during the week, apart from our last night as we went out for a nice Mediterranean meal in Soho Square. People are always going to complain about food, and this was one thing that put us off going in the first place, however there is nothing wrong with it at all if you aren't a fussy eater!

The hotel grounds were just as good as last time, absolutely spotless and the gardens were beautiful. There are gardeners around the hotel daily.

Our cleaner was great! (Sorry I have forgot his name!!) He came in every day and did such a good job. The towel art he did for us every single day was so good and he even left us fresh flowers in a cup on the table! He even went out of his way to put all my clothes on the bed and tidy away all my makeup that I had left out, which he didn't need to do at all! He was also really grateful and modest when we left him a tip at the end of our holiday.

The animation team were amazing. Special mention to Kelly, Dylan and of course 'Ginger Dylan' who we met on holiday last year before he came out to work here. They all do an amazing job and go out of their way to make the effort with all the guests. We went on some really good nights out with them too, to the Hard Rock Café and Desert Party at La Dolce Vita. They really help to make your holiday enjoyable and are a credit to the hotel! We miss them a lot already!

Zara Foster, the Guest Relations girls was also really, really helpful. She always came round to see how people were doing and even rang our room just to check we were enjoying ourselves and to see if we had any problems. She came round and did a quick feedback form with us and anything that was brought up she sorted out immediately. If you have any problems, she is always on hand to help you out and is a lovely girl. Thank you!

All of the staff were really friendly and helpful, I couldn't say a bad thing about them at all.

The weather was perfect for the whole 10 days. Average temperature was around 38 degrees and we didn't see a single cloud. That's a good thing about Egypt is that you are guaranteed beautiful weather!

For the price you pay to stay here it's absolutely great value for money and there aren't any bad points for us about the hotel at all.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here again and miss it so much! We made some lovely friends with the Animation Team and also other couples that we met out there and miss every one loads!

Hopefully we will return for another holiday soon! Laura + Daz.

Room Tip: Tiran block is the perfect location if you want to be situated nearer the pools and restaurants.

GOOD POINTS--this was our second time in this complex and again I have to say we had a great time-,the staff-,the rooms and the amenities were outstanding .Every day a different show in the evening,..plenty of bars and food always available...LOADS OF WATER SPORTS for men and women and a kids pool ...Taxis are cheap but use the hotel for them:) all rooms have double beds :-)

BAD POINTS-The food was plentiful but a few complaints were heard ,such as the same food day in and day out....Also too many Russians being rude and not following good advice..(diving in a 5foot deep pool) I was hoping to see blood or brain tissue but would of meant closing the pool to clean the mess up.:).. any problems speak to Zara-a brilliant member of staff and puts the customer first and "gets the job done"

Room Tip: insects like water and plants .....so go for a room above ground floor :-)

First of all I would like to say that I have stayed in a lot of different all inclusive hotels in many different countries including Egypt, so I am comparing this hotel from my own experience. I will try and break things down so it's easier to follow. But before I start I just want to say that it was an amazing 2 week holiday with unforgettable memories that will stay with me for life. 1. ARRIVAL Was a very welcome one. We had our luggage delivered to our room. Sorting out the documents and the room key didn't take longer then 5min. 2. ROOM. My girlfriend and I couldn't believe the size of our room when we seen it. It was more like a family room. The bathroom was really big. There was so much space for clothes and shoes that I didn't even have to fight my girlfriend for space, because she did bring hundred million bikinis for our two week holiday. There were also a lot of hangers that came very handy for all the shirts I brought and never wore because it was so hot, but that's just a classic mistake that we all done. There were two double beds. One for you to sleep in and the other one for your sins ;). Massive balcony (with beautiful view), tele that actually worked and had a lot of channels in all languages you can possibly think of including English. And finally and very important kit of equipment that human beings or also known as homo sapiens (probably the worst kind of species on planet earth) have invented is Air-conditioning! It worked, it never broke, it did the job very well and it was FREE which was very very unusual. Another very important thing that we had for free was our safe, where We have kept our valuables. 3. HOTEL. Very nice, beautiful and very clean hotel. Perfect location. With loads of swimming pools, all inclusive bars, animation theatre, football field, gym, saunas, jacuzzis, spas, volleyball, Table tennis..ETC !! You are not gonna be bored in this hotel, trust me. There is something to do for everyone! 4. ANIMATION TEAM + PARTIES. Some amazing people work in this hotel. Special thank you to Kelly and "South African/English" Dylan. You two made our holiday. Always made an effort with us and kept us entertained and that's what Animators job is. Enjoyed playing water polo, darts and doing quiz everyday. Animation program was brilliant, very funny and entertaining. We have done several parties with animation team, such as : Beach party, Desert party (by far our favourite), Hard Rock Cafe night out. 5. FOOD. Food was really good, a lot of choice. The best all inclusive food I have had. You got to bare in mind that there are a lot of different nationalities that are staying at this hotel and they are trying to please everyone. Of course there are going to be things that you are not gonna like but someone else will, like I already said, we all like different things and that's why the range of food is very wide. 6. STAFF Staff are very friendly and helpful. They all speak English. Always make you feel like guest should feel. 7. BEACH AND CORALS If this is your first time to the Red Sea then one thing you should know there are corals on the beach and they are very sharp but also very beautiful. Beach is very clean and well organised. Snorkelling was amazing of the jetty. A lot of beautiful creatures to see, all kinds of Fish.. Trust me an amazing experience. We even got to see wild dolphins :).. 8. Weather Weather was beautiful , around 38-40 degrees, for the whole two weeks stay I havnt seen a one single cloud. We are missing the weather already as we are back in the Uk. Feel very emotional writing this as this was one of the best holidays I have ever had. We had such a good time. Thanks to all the people that we have met and made it so special, that includes Animation team, all the staff and other couples that we have met during our stay. I am not sort of person to come back to the same hotel but I would definitely come back to Sharm Grand Plaza Resort. Hope you have found this very helpful and enjoy your holiday!

Returning last night after a two week stay at the grand plaza hotel, there are a range of good points unfortunately overshadowed by many bad aspects to our stay at the resort.
Firstly and I believe most importantly is the issue with food as a whole.
As an all inclusive holiday I have never felt more inclined to eat out than any other vacation. The hotel claims to have two buffet restaurants but during the height of the season only one was open, This resulted in the one restaurant constantly being over crowded causing difficulty finding a cleared and set table to eat at, meaning aimlessly wondering around the hall until one became available. Furthermore due to the excessive amount of people eating at any given time; quite frankly the queues for any freshly cooked food were ridiculous and after two weeks this became increasingly tedious. Secondly the standard of the food was disappointing to say the least. For a five star hotel we expected higher quality and better variation of food than was provided; for instance out of the little meat available the chicken was full of gristle the beef we found fatty, and the only other option available was a ludicrously salty pasta dish. The hotel pride's itself on providing poolside snacks from 12:00 until 17:00 yet the food was constantly open to the elements which allowed for birds to get first pickings on the limited choice available.
So in short if you are not a fan of half eaten chips day after day maybe the poolside "snacks" are not for you.
The second issue we found with the resort was the entertainment. To be blunt apart from the fire show courtesy of "fireman Sam" which was excellent, the rest was just cringe worthy unentertaining drivel. The majority of the "Animation team" were English and we felt that more time and effort could go into the evening performances perhaps that way they would not lose half the audience in the first 10 minutes. On a lighter note during the day the Animation team tried very hard to involve everybody in various activities ranging from morning volleyball to an evening quiz.
The next matter that drew our attention was the general upkeep and maintenance of the rooms and public toilets. The cleanliness of the room was to a very high standard, Yet we found the condition of the facilities lacking, by this we mean cracked tiles broken shower heads a very old television and just the feeling of an old establishment. For a Hotel awarded as a 5* we felt it was in dire need of refurbishment. The public toilets in honesty are disgusting, during our stay I noticed at breakfast one was overflowing with you can only imagine what, yet in the evening when I returned it remained the same with no signs of a clean up, yet on the wall it had been signed many times for it's hourly check up's, which is hard to believe to put it mildly.
After everything said and done, we still found that the majority of the staff but not all were fantastic and could not do enough to help. Overall loved the holiday and the area but make no mistake that this hotel is not all it is cracked up to be and even though we will be returning to sharm el sheikh in the future, unfortunately we will not be re-visiting this hotel.

Room Tip: Poolside rooms need refurbishment.

Just returned from a week at the sharm grand plaza and we absolutely loved it! It was our first time in Egypt and would definitely recommend and return to this hotel! Our room was very spacious with two double beds! Our room was in the Tiran block and had a lovely view of the lazy river and the beach in the distance, our cleaner Mohammed was brilliant, he was so friendly and always did a really good job! On the odd day we didn't have our room cleaned if he saw us walking past he would come over to check if we needed anything and give us water and toilet rolls which was lovely of him! We found the food at the hotel ok..at the start of the week we found the food really good but towards the end of the week we were a bit sick of it as it always seemed to be the same stuff ..some sort of stew and rice or the same pizza and pasta but it is hard trying to cater to everyone, we found the food nice but just boring towards the end especially breakfast as this was the same everyday. The only thing we found to be a problem was in the main buffet restaurant at lunch and dinner time we always went an hour before it finished, at the evening time we would go at 9pm and we felt like the restaurant staff were really rushing us out they were changing all the cloths over at 9:30 ready for breakfast the next day but it clearly states that dinner finishes at 10! Sometimes we found it hard to find a clean table as they had already changed the cloths over to breakfast so wouldn't let us sit there, one evening they said to us we couldn't sit outside because they were cleaning it so went inside and got moved further inside by a 2nd person and directed to a dirty table with no cutlery and we thought they would bring us some and clean the table but never did! Also one evening we was drinking wine in the restaurant as it's the only place you can get it and we went to get more red wine and was told no were closing and it was only 9:40pm so I said no it clearly says it finishes at 10 so he gave us white wine and said no more red yet 2 minutes after someone else got a glass of red! It sounds really petty but we just felt rushed at the restaurant and the restaurant staff to be very rude towards us and we never understood why as we was always very polite! It's definitely something that needs to be looked at as it ruined meal times for us! Other then that everything else was spot on! All the other members of staff were so lovely and kind..always there to help. I got sent a cake on my birthday that was such a nice touch! Definitely go snorkelling on the beach it is amazing! We also booked a taxi through the hotel to soho square which is a must and the taxi driver was so lovely and professional and picked us up exactly on time. Sharm grand plaza is A lovely place if your looking to chill out and such good value for money! Will definitely be back.
