We went to Eygpt in April 2012, to a 5* hotel as rated by Thomas Cook. I have stayed in better 3* accomodation before!. The rooms were ok with a balcony overlooking the pool complex and sea. The food however left a bit to be desired, it seemed to be catering for the abundance of Russians / Ukrainians who were also staying. I think that if i had booked it as a 3* hotel my expectations would not have been as high. But it was the food that spoiled the holiday with us resorting to eat out even though we were all inclusive. As it is I would not recommend it!

I have just got back from spending a week at the Amwaj.

After reading the reports here I thought perhaps I had dropped a boo boo and was not looking forward to staying there. However I feel perhaps some reports are a bit harsh.

If you think five stars is going to be equivelent to the Savoy and Ritz think again. If you want to get beered up and eat like a king think again.

The entrance to the hotel foyer is large, clean and airy and the staff are all warm and friendly. My room was clean and the air condition was excellent, however the bathroom was a tad shoddy. The pressure from the shower was poor and the bath tub had a large chunk of enamel missing, not really five stars ! It seems abit hit and miss if you get a good room, some guests were not very happy at all but I think it was ok. I tipped the cleaner early doors and he was good as gold, bringing bottled water to my room every day.

The hotel food was a mixed bag, a very wide selection and you at to fnd what you liked. Bearing In mind there were alot of Russian and Eastern European tourists and you cannot please all the people all the time. There is also a Italian option but you at to queue up early doors to get a ticket in the morning to book a evening meal. It was ok but not excellent, although the staff were very polite and pleasing. The food by the pool was no great shakes we all went down to the fish restuarent on the beach which was a bit of a secret. The food here midday was very good, not busy and good grub.

The three pools were also good, and getting drinks did not prove a problem. The measures could have been bigger but they did give you two glasses so its no big deal. Although the local beer you could drink all day with out getting legless !!

The hotel entertainment was abit naff but overall the Amwaj staff were very helpfull, polite and friendly. The food and drink was ok, no great shakes. The beach was clean and tidy although the sand was abit stoney it was bloody hot. The red sea snorkelling at the end of the jetty was first class no complaints really. So I feel if you go with a smile on you face and get a good room the Amwaj is not to bad, but five stars it is not maybe 3. .

I dediced to share this review with all the potencial guest in this hotel. My opinion is not good at all, although I've been knowing all the time, that I'm travelling in different kind of country, that has not the same standards as in Europe. Still I was shocked the first day as me and my boyfriend noticed, that the sheets on the bed haven't beed changed. There was some dirt and also hair on the sheet. Pillows were stained and had bad smell. Bath in the bathroom was covered with dirt, it seemed that it has never been cleaned before. The towels have been stained also, even the fresh ones. Looks like the don't wash the loundry well.

Food was absolutely terrible. Breakfast every day the same. At the lunch I took potatoe once and it was not boiled enaugh. Pasta and rice every day. Grilled fish is qiute ok, but since I am vegetarian I had enought of fish after three days. Dinners are especially miserable. Last four days we were queueing for an hour to get Italian restaurant booked for the evenening. This one has been qiute good. At the Fisherman it is nothing special, very similar that main hotel restaurant, and since the restaurant is out on the beach the is no cooling. At 35 degrees Celsium there is quite hard to enjoy you meal. I do not recommend you to eat any fresh food - vegetables and fruit. The people in the gruop who tried to ate them, had very bad stomach ache and dairrhea. I recommend you also to wash your teeth with the watter from the all inclusive offer - you can buy water in the near market and then refilling the bottle al over again at the machines wich are avaliable 24/7.

The beach is awful. The only way to get in the see is throug the jetty. In the see much of the time there is very strong current and very difficult to swim. If you would go tro the water directly from the beach be aware, that in the afternoon the shallow water, in which is unable to swim for about 400 meters the water heats up up to 70 degrees Celzium.
The main pool is totally nasty. The children are constantly peeing in there. It is very crowdy also. Much better are the pools in the Aqua park outside of the hotel, but the first two days in the bigger pool in the aqua park the water was so nasty, that you could smeel the urin in it and if you compare the colors of the water you could see that there is a huge amount of urin in the bigger pool. Disgusting. they changed water the next day and it wa much better.
There is also one pool beetwen the apartmenst. Also this one it is not clean, but much better that the rest ones.

I suggest you to not pich this hotel, but if you alredy did, be very careful what you eat, check out you sheets and towels and take some alkoholic prep pads (alkohol tissues) with you. Oh, and the spoons, forks and knifes, also plates are very dirty eather. Be careful not to catch diarrhea.

Nice staying in Sharm!

The location is very good and the room was good, however there is no proper indoor area for drinks. The food is average for all inclusive but the staff were all freindly especially at the Italian resturant. The pool at the slide area was excellent and very quite for a chill out. Overall, however we met a lot of people and enjoyed ourselves on the lovely beach.

Just returned after a 10 night stay and this is the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in. The food is awful and myself and many others had food poisoning. The hotel itself was DIRTY. The management need to be taught customer service skills. My advice is don't even think of booking this hotel. The all inclusive service ended at 12 noon on the day we left even thought we did not leave the hotel until 6.30 pm. It seems that only half of the grounds of the hotel were maintained and the rest of the site was very neglected.

We are just back from 11 nights at the Amwaj. The rooms in the new block where we stayed are lovely, not sure about the older blocks. The lagoon style pool is clean and very spacious, which was great because Egypt in july is really not for the faint hearted !!. It was roasting there. The staff are fantastic and can not do enough for you especially if you are british. The jetty into the sea is just at the end of the complex,we didnt find a huge amount of fish in the water there, not as many as when we stayed in a hotel in Marsa Alam a couple of years ago.The food however was awful, very very repetative , the worst we have ever had in an all inclusive. We had to resort to eating out, which isnt what you budget for on an all inc holiday.Yes we all had bad stomachs but think that is usual when going to egypt, got tablets from local pharmacy and were very quickly better. To sum up i would not stay there again or recommend it to friends but only because of the food.
