“Butlins of the 1950 s”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2009

I booked this as an all inclusive 5 star holiday with a quiet room and on arrival were shown to our room which quickly became apparant was not 5 star. and a karaoke blared out day and night from which there was no escape. On our first evening we went to the main restaurant for our meal. It was more akin to a cattle market. we eventually managed to get a dirty table and a bowl of soup, but no spoon. By the time we did the soup was cold. We were unable to go and get our meals together as we would not have had a table to return to and even at that there was no guarantee we would have cutlery. The queue for drinks was another fiasco, guess no tumblers.
The next day we tried the garden restaurant for breakfast, which was a littel more acceptable but guess again no cups this time. When we did get cups the water had run out. tables again were filthy and during my stay i never saw them being cleaned. Waiters had a habit of feeding the numerous small birds which frequently helped themselves to food off a diners plate while they went for a drink. We did complain to a manager whose attitude was "so what"
We were also told that we could eat on two occasions at the Italian Restaurant and the Eastern Restaurant. On first trying to book we were told it was fully booked for two weeks in advance but after complaining we were given two bookings. The food in general overall was acceptable but on other downside was that we had a late night and decided to have the late breakfast only to find that this consisted of only a pastry, no tea, no coffee.
"maid service" consisted of the bed being made and towels changed and made into picturesque swand and heart shapes other than that not even the sink was wiped until we pointed it out the the boy. Big mistake he proceeded to clean the sink and toilet with the same cloth.
Overall the pools and grounds were kept pretty tip top and pool attendants were ready with mattresses for loungers as soon as you approached. Bar staff were also very good, very polite and remembered customers and their preffered drinks.
To conclude tip on arrival at least that way you will ensure service. Avoid shops as it is the same scenario every time. Where you from. Scotland ah William Wallace I your friend.

If restaurant is important for you - don't go there. Dirty tables, lack of glass, noise in restaurant, lack of service. Fishes - impossible to eat. Very good cakes.
Rooms are spacious and nice, however bathrooms should be renovated urgently.
A lot of Russians. Animations - poor and low quality.
Nice garden and piscines. You need to walk 15 min to sea. At beach you will be asked every 5 minuts: massage? diving? do you want to buy.... we will never come back there.

just arrived back from our holiday. this is our 6th stay in sharm and i have to say this hotel served the best food.....
the hotel was clean and tidy. the grounds were large and very well looked after . the swimming pools were amazing, although the steps could be slippery as my son found out. as soon as this was reported the problem was rectified. my son sprained his ankle which cost us £55 at the hotel doctor this money was refunded as soon as i reported it to the hotel.
the rooms were kept very clean the cleaner did a excellent job
the dining room was very busy although the waiters did try and save us a table every night. i have got to say that almost every nationality in the hotel behaved like animals and yes some of the english were the same..........
the food was very good and i am the worlds worse person to keep happy with food.
i would definatley come back to this hotel. we had no upset stomach.
visitors to sharm need to remember it is very hot and the causers of upset stomachs are usually cold drinks and air conditioning not always the food.

When booking we were advised transfers were not included so we had to buy our own, for £70.00 return. Only to arrive at Sharm el sheikh to find we had two taxis waiting for us, which caused lots of confusion, we were not told that we had a free transfer to our hotel and that we were to arrange our own taxi back to airport.
After reaching the Rehana Sharm resort, we thought it was beautiful and the weather was amazing. We left our luggage and went for tea. Where we were greeted by queues in the restaurant, there was no plates, cups or knives and forks, we had to fight our way for plates and then for the tables etc, We were given No details on arrival as to where you could eat in the hotel grounds etc, or given information on restaurant reservations,.
When we arrived one section of the hotel was boarded off, as they were working inside, this was removed half way during our holiday and another pool was available.
The gym is free, and is not equipped to high standards, (one treadmill and few weights etc) you cannot use the sauna, indoor Jacuzzi etc its all at a price.
The outdoor Jacuzzi is hard to find and is rarely on.
After the second day I began feeling sick, the next day I was ill with stomach cramps, really bad diarrhoea, aching and sickness, my partner the next morning all so came down with the same, we were so ill we couldn’t leave the room all day and had nothing to eat or drink. The next day we managed to go over the road to the chemist he gave us medication which cost £25 for 2 x boxes of tablets to share, there was one for diarrhoea and one for the cramps and also we bought re-hydration sachets.
We were so weak we couldn’t go in the pool or enjoy our holiday and when we ate it literally went straight through our aching bodies. The following day after the medication, I started to pick up but my partner was still ill. Then our sons started to feel ill, knowing what we had been though we went to reception and asked for some advice, as we were still ill, they advised us to see the doctor.
The doctor checked my partner and sons out and gave them medication, and the boys also got injections, one of our boys temperature was 39. The boys were that ill that they didn’t leave the room for two days.
Please note it wasn’t just us that were ill. It was everyone that we spoke to everyone was really ill at some stage on there holiday, we all think it is due to the food and we would ask if this could be looked into before you sell anymore holidays.
The hotel itself is lovely, the staffs are great in every way and do there best to please, the pool is dirty and it is cleaned regular but obviously not enough. We were advised that a young child had diarrhoea in one pool, this was left and the pool was still used by everyone.
The major problem is the food, the hotel is booked to full capacity , and one main restaurant is getting refurbished, so everyone is using one main restaurant, because you cannot get booked in the Italian and oriental for days (pm only these are available)
There is a snack bar near the closed fish restaurant, but the queues for chips and pizza or burger are long again.
Some of the food is not cooked properly; the poor staff are constantly running about and helping saying sorry.
There is only one BBQ and the queues again are long, sometimes standing half a hour for chips, and then not having a table to sit at.
The food starts being prepared around the pool at 4.30pm as they move the sun beds and try to get you to leave the pool area so they can tidy up and get ready for tea, the food is set away to cook in large cooking pots outside and this is not served until 7pm.
We did speak to the manager on our last day and he agreed that the hotel was to full to cope with the food issue and said that in three or four weeks the new restaurant will be open to help with the situation, but this doesn’t help us because we were here now and our holiday has been ruined.
The doctor advised it was due to climate change, AC to low, food differences etc, (general everything), and because one of our sons has one kidney and the medication he was taking he advised us not to let him have any salts or minerals and to eat only the bread, chips, meat from the BBQ and bottled water only. No salad etc as its washed in there water (He couldn’t have the pop from the pump because it contained there water and this is high in minerals??)
Eventually we started to pick up, we were told our dream of going to Cairo to see the pyramids was ruined, because we were ill and our immunes were very low so we were advised not to go.
We had decided before we had gone to Egypt, that we wanted to explore Egypt and do lots of trips etc. My partner had saved and worked extra to make this holiday the best ever.
Our hearts were broken, because this holiday was supposed to be a dream holiday, for my partners mums 60th and our sons (maybe last holiday before he starts to go away on his own), we booked this holiday last October and for us as we learnt it was no where near as cheap as lots of the other families. Therefore we were expecting a lot better holiday.
Our brochure advised us
• Free dive in main pool, we never received any information about this or saw anyone doing this.
• Free indoor Jacuzzi or steam bath 1 x stay per client (when we asked we were told it was at a charge)
• Jacuzzi two outside, (we only found one and it was hardly on)
• The day time animation was a game of volley ball at 4pm
• No gymnastics, dance lessons, beach games, pool games, etc
• I did do water aerobics once on first day, but after this didn’t come back on.
• It states we had soft drinks on arrival. (we had two bottles water)
• Beach bar for snacks (no snacks available at bar and sometimes no bottled pop)
• No crepe bar
• States 3 ala carte restaurants (only two)
• No waterfall restaurant (to be seen)
• No children’s special menu
• No sea food restaurant
• No disco had to go to sister hotel over the road or down tunnel, starts 12pm, and have to pay for drinks we heard.
There was no entertainment for teenage our boys. The is a disco over a main road or under a tunnel, but it is unsafe I did not let my 13 year old go out at midnight, as I thought it was too dangerous, because if the cars do not putting there lights on and the hassle you get from the outside Egyptians.
We would also like to add that the seating facilities around the bars are limited and there are only a few, so if you did want to stay out on a night, again you had to fight for seats.
However the beach was amazing for snorkelling we did get to go twice in the two weeks we were there normally we would have gone every other day. We also booked a trip with our rep (fantastic four which included snorkel, camel ride and bedwin tent and shopping) this was a great day out, except one of us had to cancel at the last minute due to the stomach bug.
Two of us also had ear infections during our stay, we have just returned home and are still not well with stomach and ear problems. Everyone was handing in letters of complaint at the hotel, you just don’t expect to be so ill on holiday and also you have to get up at 6.15 am on the morning to get a umbrella and beds because if you came at seven you wouldn’t have one, and you needed both in the red hot weather, our diet consisted of chips, bread and bottled water or pop, we did try and book in the garden restaurant which we were told was a overflow restaurant by the manager but we couldn’t get in for three nights, so we saw one of the bar staff and he advised us to go and tell them that we had already booked in and it was a error, after this for the remaining four nights we ate at this restaurant, with waiter service, it was amazing, and something abit more than chips. I myself at this point was still only eating small portions because what ever I ate was still going straight though me and I am still getting cramps.
I would also like to add that after our few experiences down the small shops and even walking to the beach the Egyptian men, leering at you and making whistling noises etc, it made me and my family feel so uneasy to the point where we didn’t go into Narmma bay.
We strongly agree that after our experience at this hotel we will not be returning to Egypt, it is a beautiful place and the staff are so friendly but over worked.
On returning our taxi was 45 minutes late, so we had to rush through departures, because you have to be checked in no later than one hour for departure.
When we got back to Newcastle airport we are now awaiting one missing case, the holiday from start to finish has been one big nightmare.

Just returned from spending a week here, when we first arrived we were very impressed with the hotel, staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, the layout was beautiful and we were generally very impressed, the room was spacious enough and modern in its design. The one HUGE complaint regarding this hotel has to be not only the food but the general dining experience.

The dining room as chaos, we could never find a table it was that busy, and when we did the table was left filthy with dirty plates and spilt food etc....not exactly 5*?? We are not blind to the fact that we didnt pay all that much for the holiday and didnt really expect 5*, especially after reading the reviews on here, or some of. However, we didnt expect to have to queue for 20 mins for a glass to get a drink and then find that if we wanted water- perhaps important in Egypt?? The water buts were empty and the arange juice was warm, on the bright side we could queue for 20 mins for a coke or something behind the bar!! Although on the third day, the food problems were obvious, myself and my partner were hit withh food poisoning, we had severe stomach cramps and couldnt stop going to the toilet with the runs. Spoke to a few other couples who had had the same problem, we also ended up paying around £20 on antibiotics to clear the upset.
Would not go back ever. Be careful with what you eat if you are going, very careful!!!

Positives are definitely the pools and the layout and egypt in general is a wonderful country with plenty to offer.

I was a little worried about this hotel having read the reviews. Well you have no need to worry, on arrival to the hotel we went to a great air con reception and was taken to our rooms. The complex is huge and we learnt very quickly that a couple of pound tip went a long way. We tipped the pool man who made sure our beds were in the same spot each day.

We had a few friends already there which was a great help and they pointed us in the right direction. We also met a few friends local to where we live which was great so for 1 week there were 14 of us.

Yes the Restaurant where you go for your buffet style meal is a nightmare, yes the Russians are the rudest people you will ever meet, I had a few arguements with them. You think they had not eaten for months the way they piled their plates up. This is the only thing that put me off, so we decided to tip the waiter in the Italian Restaurant and we ate there 9 times which was lovely and very tranquil, and away from those rude Russians.

The breakfast was ok, pancakes, omelettes, this is the only holiday I have been on where I have not put no weight on, yes you guessed the tummy 3 to 4 times and still have it on my return. Husband has lost 1/2 stone due to the same thing. We did not drink the water, we bought bottled and always washed our hands and used hand gel so not sure why.

Naama Bay I did not like, it was too hustle and bustle, the kids hated it as well, so that was an experience. Snorkelling is a must, the fish are amazing. Quad biking was good, the kids loved it.

Would I recommend this hotel, yes, I am going back in November it has not put me off, due to the excellent, friendly service from the Eyptians.

Ok, so all inclusive, nobody who goes on an all inclusive holiday is a foodie, it is a fact!! I have been on a few, in various countries, and the food is all the same. You are not tasting local quisine, just cheap food, kind of hot-ish. The food here is no different, so don't expect it in any Egon Ronay guide! That said, the fresh made pasta was good, and the omlettes and pancakes in the mornings were worth a go!
The waiting staff are awesome, on the first day we took our time to find a waiter who wasn't too cheesy and trying to compliment compliment compliment all the while. We had a chap called Hussien, lovely bloke, we gave him a £10 tip at the start of the holiday, one in the middle and another at the end, and it was worth doing. No queing at the bar (not that the Russians believe in quieing of course) he took our drink orders, and always found a table for us.
We also has just the loveliest cleaner, his english was not so good, but better than my arabic! His name was Anton/Afton but we called Dave! Best chap ever. My mum was unwell for half of the holiday (will get to that soon) and he brought her flowers to cheer her up. We tipped him £10 at the beggining in the middle and £20 at the end, as his service was exceptional, he brought us fresh bottled water everyday, and made the coolest animals out of our towels when he cleaned. I have never met anyone who took such pride in his work, and considering he gets paid a mere £50 a month for 7 days a week, I thought it was something else.
The water is a bit of a dodgy area. For the first few days we were drinking the water provided in the coolers, however, soon discovered that this was not a good idea as we were all stuck down with the cairo quickstep for want of a better expression. Mum was very sick with it, and had to have the doctor twice (doctor was called Ahmed, and was just lovely) she has to be put on a drip and could eat nothing but toast as it was all she could keep down. The bottled water is cheap enough (around 55p a bottle) and I would highly reccomend buying NOT using the coolers, as it is pretty much de-salinated sea water.
The drinks were ok, you are sorted if you like whiskey, as it all has a distict whiskey after-taste! There is also coke, fanta sprite and the like, so kids are sorted.
The pools are great, the beach is just astounding, and the snorkling is an absolute must.
The russians are dreadfull, the are the new Germans!! The place was full of them. I swear I am not one to generalise, but my god! I have never encountered such ill mannered, rude and disrespectfull people in my life. They push in, they shove they have zero manners, and I honestly think I was a little more dis-enchanted with the hotel because of them. It really is the benidorm of the eastern block, they drink and eat as much as they can because it's "free"
The shopping in Nama bay was good, though be carefull when taking the shuttle service, there is a drop off area, and a horrible little man called Aladin waits there and immediately makes you think he is the tour guide and takes you into his shop! when you cotton onto this and leave he gets very angry and says that you have insulted him! Touchy git!! The rest of the shopping was good though, just be very firm with your "NO's" and haggle haggle haggle!! The Egyptians don't really have any concept either of personal space when they are trying to get you into their shops, so it can feel a bit claustrophobic.
There is so much to say really to sit a type it all, anyone is welcome to contact me and I will give an honest answer to any question about it all. In all a nice cheap break, but don't expect 5*
