“Relaxed & Enjoyable”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

This the first time my wife & I have holidayed in a resort location and as such we didn't really know what to expect. But after a day or so feeling guilty about not doing anything other than lounging around the pool etc. we had difficulty coming to grips with the idea of leaving and getting back into the day to day grind of our working lives.

The hotel was fantastic with a great buffet breakfast included. Although we only had the basic "Garden View" room it was more than adequate; with the exception that the refrigerator was verging on useless. But there is ice available from conveniently located machines.

The hotel is located about 10-15 minutes from the ferry terminal (pre-arrange transport) and 5-10 from the airport ( warning: when departing Moorea using Air Tahiti get to the airport an hour prior to departure; our plane arrived in Papeete before it was due to depart). The hotel has a fantastic pool, as well as provides kayaks and snorkelling equipment free of charge. The bar and restaurant have friendly staff that provide excellent food and beverage. The hotel is surrounded by a number of restaurants, shops and a supermarket all within easy walking distance. The hotel also has a pearl shop where the owner is also the resident jeweller; he produces an excellent quality product. According to my wife we will certainly return.

We had an overwater bungalow here, which was very large. The reef extended to directly below our room, so could go snorkelling from our deck. We also took out one of the resort kayaks, which was amazing. The staff were very good, the room was very large and well-maintained, although the deck was quite small. The menu in the restaurant was rather limited, so we ate out for 3 of our nights.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing directly onto the ocean, rather than sideways along the beach. Recommend rm 41...

We stayed in an overwater bungalow which has gorgeous views and spectacular sunsets though the room itself was a little tired. I find the whole honeymoon thing rather sickly but this is a relatively tolerable version of it.

There are many more fish here than at the Pearl Bora Bora because there is reef. Because it is not a "ghetto" hotel there seemed to be more going on. Local fishermen and tahitian canooists passed by which was rather exotic. The food was ok but not exciting. I might stay here again. I certainly would not stay at the Pearl Bora Bora again. So they must be doing something right.

We had 5 nights at his resort and it was absolutely what I expected. Premium overwater bungalow, snorkeling under the room, service great. Ideal place to propose.
Time over, would still go back there,

moorea was our last stop on a 3 island tour, we left the travel agent pick our hotel for moorea and while the grounds and restaurant were nice, this beaches left alot to be desired. the otw bungalows block the view of the ocean and the sand/beach access is minimal at best. the rooms were nice, we had a garden bungalow but the patio furniture was old and uncomfortable. the location of the facility was nice as it was walking distance to town.

We spent 5 amazing nights at the Moorea Pearl Resort before going to the Bora Bora Pearl. Our garden pool bungalow (#205) was amazing! There were fresh hibiscus around our room; it was clean, spacious and quiet. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked very well. There was a fridge in the room, but it didn't keep things very cold (worked fine for hinano beer). The yard and plunge pool were both larger than expected, and very private. We loved being able to lounge in the pool, have some drinks on the deck, or lay in the sun all in the privacy of our own bungalow!

There was not much of a beach on Moorea, but there was great snorkeling, or you can use paddle boards and kayaks for free. The infinity pool was glorious. It was the perfect temperature, had great views of the reef, and had a large tree in the center that provided a good amount of shade. The view of the mountain behind the hotel is mesmerizing. The water isn't quite as nice as Bora Bora, but the island of Moorea is gorgeous.

Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and really went above and beyond. Every morning we walked to breakfast and were greeted by the landscapers around the property (which they maintained perfectly). The girls at breakfast and dinner were always friendly, got to know us quickly, and their service was on point. Housekeeping was great; we came back to a clean room every day.

The food left something to be desired. We had the meal plan that included breakfast buffet and dinner. The buffet was plentiful and delicious. There was a decent selection for lunch by the pool. We discovered the poisson cru (fresh tuna and veggies in coconut milk) and ate it every single day for lunch. Dinner was not bad, but was nothing special. Even on the meal plan we had a good selection of apps, entrees, and desserts that were included, and could order anything else on the menu for an additional cost (usually around $5), the food just wasn't great. However, we heard this is the case no matter where you stay.

One of the best aspects of Moorea Pearl is the location. It is a five minute walk to town where there are restaurants, a grocery store, a bank, and shops. Definitely go to town and get some bottled water and beer, and maybe snacks (although there are ways to help with cost, everything on the island is relatively expensive- everyone warns against this, so don't be surprised when you get there. If you're not prepared for it, maybe go somewhere else). We walked to the Moorea Beach Cafe for dinner one night and it was outstanding! You eat right on the water, and if you go early enough you can have a prix fixe sunset special that’s delicious and only about $40 a person- the best deal you'll find on the island. Everyone on Moorea seems to be quite friendly and the island is very safe. There are bugs all over the island that swarm at sunset for about 10 minutes then completely disappear; bring some bug spray with deet and you'll be fine.

Albert's tours is right across the street from the hotel. Their atv tour and shark/ray tour with lunch were amazing!! We tried to book a deep sea fishing trip through the hotel but each time they either didn't have enough people or a private tour was booked in place of ours... definitely frustrating. Go to the excursions desk as soon as you get there to ensure availability for everything you want to do. There were not many couples our age (late 20’s) staying here, we met many on excursions that were staying at the Hilton. If you're looking for a beautiful, relaxing place with friendly people, the Pearl is perfect. We absolutely loved our stay at the Moorea Pearl Resort!! If we come back we will definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: The garden pool bungalow is the way to go on Moorea. The over water bungalows looked nice, but it di...

The staff treated us terribly. We had problems and the manager did not get back to us.
I would not recommend this resort and suggest the Hilton on Moorea.
The grounds were not kept up and I would not go in the pool as it was filthy. The restaurant and bar service was some of the worst I have ever seen.

The Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa nestles on the island shore, just by the village of Maharepa in an ideal location, between the majestic Cook’s Bay and the Gulf of Moorea. It’s very convenient, at just 10 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the ferry terminal, and with boutiques, restaurants and a small shopping center close at hand. The style of the resort is a tasteful combination of the traditional and the contemporary with a powerful sense of Polynesia. There are 28 over-water bungalows built over the lagoon on piles, 8 more bungalows on the beach and 28 spread through the beautiful grounds with their own private pools and little gardens. The remaining 22 rooms and 8 duplexes of this 94-unit resort are in a small building. Whichever accommodation you choose, you will have air-conditioned comfort (the bungalows also have ceiling fans), an outside terrace, mini-bar, hairdryer, safe, flat-screen television and DVD player, I-pod dock and WiFi. From your hotel base we will be happy to arrange a full range of exciting excursions and activities and of course you can relax at the resort where you’ll enjoy one of the largest infinity pools of the island. Each bungalow has a sunny outside terrace with comfortable loungers. From the over-water ones, there is direct access to the lagoon. The premium over-water bungalows are especially well situated, close to the coral reef ledge so you can immediately swim off and discover a fascinating world of colored fish and exotic corals. Near the over-water bungalows, we have developed our own coral nursery- To’A Nui - a coral regeneration project and part of our commitment to protecting the fragile environment that surrounds us. This site encourages the proliferation of marine life whose beauty is so easily enjoyed with simple snorkeling equipment. You will find a luxurious and convivial resort on a human scale, offering a warm welcome to honeymooners, romantic couples, families, nature lovers and scuba-divers.
