It had been a life long dream to go French Polynesia -- ever since I saw "South Pacific" as a child. We were booked on a cruise around the islands, and came to the Moorea Pearl Resort first to relax after our long flight. The Moorea Pearl was absolutely fantastic!! We stayed in a premium beach front bungalow, which was truly wonderful. The Resort is exactly as pictured in the travel magazines, complete with fresh flower decorations and a spectacular beach and pool. The staff were so helpful and friendly, and the morning breakfast was delicious. I would highly recommend the Moorea Pearl, and would love to visit again!!

The location of this hotel is great, it’s a short 3-5 minute walk to shops/groceries and restaurants! We stayed in a premium overwater bungalow and the snorkeling off of the patio was unbelievable! So many fish and even a big sea turtle that we saw most days that seems to live between huts 402 and 404. The resort bar was pretty quiet most times except during happy hour! Happy hour is highly recommended with lots of drinks and beer half price even the locals seem to come, but it was only on wednesday and friday nights. The included breakfast was very good and there was lots of variety, overall i would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Moorea!

Room Tip: There is a giant sea turtle that seems to live near nuts 402-404, we had hut 403 and the snorkling w...

I was a little hesitant in going to Tahiti solo but glad I did. I stayed in an over the water bung for my whole trip (11 days). The atmosphere was fabulous it was great to be able to snorkel right from my deck. the staff were so friendly and accommodating. I will be returning and I would highly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: well worth the money to book an over the water bungalow

So you've seen those overwater bungalows in pictures in travel magazines? Well if you aren't up to paying $15,000 for a once in a lifetime honeymoon or something like that, just find a good deal (I used Hotels.com) for 2-3 nights in a premium overwater bungalow here (or the one land based bungalow at the far end of the beach also looked good) and be prepared to be spoiled for most anything else in your life. It will still set you back $1000-1500 but it will be well worth it if you want to make some nice memories with your true love. You can economize in other places. This will also make you want to save up to come back!
Nice extras like free use of SUP, kayaks, great snorkelling right from your bungalow. We were staying at a house for most of our 2 wk visit so brought our own food and liquor and stored in the fridge but if you aren't, just go by the fruit juice factory (usine de jus des fruits) and get a couple cartons of Tahiti Drink and you'll be set. Also remember to bring a plastic bag for the ice machine - easier than taking the little ice cooler bin from the room with you.
The dance/dinner spectacle was OK - not great but not terrible.
Super fun to make your own pareu in the courtyard next to the pool - the lady tie dyes it to your color specifications then you lay out designs (whatever you saw while snorkelling or reminds you of your trip) made out of lineoleum on top of it to block the sun as it dries and you get a photosensitive effect that lets you make a custom pareu as a Moorea souvenir for something like $15.
When I wear that wrap, I remember I spent a weekend in Moorea living like a movie star! ;)

Room Tip: There are better and worse rooms but just don't stress too much and just enjoy how much better t...

We had a fabulous stay, loved it. The atmosphere is relaxed and staff were welcoming. Our overwater bungalow was spacious and had most things we wanted. The bed was wonderfully comfortable with plenty of lovely soft pillows. I loved being able to snorkel straight from our deck. The water was so clear and lovely and warm. My non-snorkelling partner had a good view of the fish via a glass section in our floor. The food served in the bar was okay, but the restaurant food really nice and a reasonable price. We will return.

Room Tip: We had an overwater bungalow looking out to sea. Others were looking back to shore. I thought these...

We stayed for five days ,from the relaxed welcome to the final day of spa and massage this place was bliss, warm luxurious and the staff were brilliant. Close to local village for supplies if you want although the food at the resort is very good and not to pricy. We didn't want to leave our of the water bungalow.. If you go pay the extra it's so worth it...you will never forget your stay. Avoid Papeete if you can

We stayed in an overwater bungalow which was brilliant and actually over the water unlike at some other hotels on the island. The location was really good with local shops and restaurants a few minutes away. The resort has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The pool was lovely too. Definitely one of the nicest places I have stayed anywhere in the world.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa nestles on the island shore, just by the village of Maharepa in an ideal location, between the majestic Cook’s Bay and the Gulf of Moorea. It’s very convenient, at just 10 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the ferry terminal, and with boutiques, restaurants and a small shopping center close at hand. The style of the resort is a tasteful combination of the traditional and the contemporary with a powerful sense of Polynesia. There are 28 over-water bungalows built over the lagoon on piles, 8 more bungalows on the beach and 28 spread through the beautiful grounds with their own private pools and little gardens. The remaining 22 rooms and 8 duplexes of this 94-unit resort are in a small building. Whichever accommodation you choose, you will have air-conditioned comfort (the bungalows also have ceiling fans), an outside terrace, mini-bar, hairdryer, safe, flat-screen television and DVD player, I-pod dock and WiFi. From your hotel base we will be happy to arrange a full range of exciting excursions and activities and of course you can relax at the resort where you’ll enjoy one of the largest infinity pools of the island. Each bungalow has a sunny outside terrace with comfortable loungers. From the over-water ones, there is direct access to the lagoon. The premium over-water bungalows are especially well situated, close to the coral reef ledge so you can immediately swim off and discover a fascinating world of colored fish and exotic corals. Near the over-water bungalows, we have developed our own coral nursery- To’A Nui - a coral regeneration project and part of our commitment to protecting the fragile environment that surrounds us. This site encourages the proliferation of marine life whose beauty is so easily enjoyed with simple snorkeling equipment. You will find a luxurious and convivial resort on a human scale, offering a warm welcome to honeymooners, romantic couples, families, nature lovers and scuba-divers. We have two restaurants - The Mahanai - and the acclaimed gourmet restaurant - The Matiehani. The Autera’a is a perfect terrace bar for sipping your favorite beverage. Other facilities include a bar, two meeting rooms, a boutique and a full range of activities and excursions both on land and on the water. We also have a dive center, a Polynesian tattoo facility and a spa. The Manea Spa specializes in massages and treatments using traditional Polynesian methods and 100% natural products from the island’s flowers and plants, including the famous monoi oils from the coconut palm. Thespa has a hammam, Jacuzzi and the "Rumi Avai" where you can discover the pleasures of our unique aquatic massages. ... more   less
