“They charged extra for everything”
Reviewed 10 November 2013 via mobile

The hotel is fine. Great views and nice accommodations however the hotel charges you for everything. They charged for air conditioning, for using beach towels, etc. We received a free ride coupon to get there but they would not honor it.
The location is beautiful but by the time you pay all the extra fees for everything, you could have stayed at one of the nicer hotels for the same cost.

“It is disappointing in that we could not make your stay here at the HOTEL KAVEKA an unforgettable vacation, as we try to accommodate and enhance our valued guests to experience the real and authentic Polynesian hospitality for a reasonable price.

Concerning your comment that we ‘charge extra for everything’, is actually ironic, because we are persistently trying to keep our accommodation rates as affordable as possible for our valued guests, and by charging a minimum fee for optional services such as 500 CFP or 6$oo to launder your beach towel enables us to in-return offer the very best and lowest rates for our accommodations.

Another example is the air-conditioning - We are one of the few 2 star hotel on Moorea offering air-conditioning, and our lead in price category the ‘lanai bungalow’ offers this as an option (with or without A/C) and by doing so, we can once again offer the competitive rates that we do.

In other words, the user pays, or you don’t consume you don’t pay.

To summarize: we try everyday to improve our family operated hotel, by offering nice clean accommodations at reasonable rates so that our valued guests can continue to return and visit with us.

Sincerely Yours.
Front office Manager.

I have been to this restaurant many times on my visits to Moorea and usually find their special chow mein to be wonderful. In fact the first night we ate there it was delicious. We went two more times and the food could not match up. The food is inconsistent as was told it depends on which cook is working. The waiter got one of our orders wrong and pretended he didn't. One night they didn't charge for us to take our left over food home and the next night they charged 50 francs for each container we used to take home our leftovers. They are hugely overpriced compared to come of the "better" restaurants on the island. Buyer beware.

We stayed at Hotel Kaveka for the last 4 days of honeymoon and honestly I regret not staying at one of the other hotels. Here are my issues:

- I wish i had read the way management responds to negative reviews before booking. It speaks volumes of the way they manage their business. I've never seen such crude responses to greviences!
-The snorkelig is depressing as the coral that surrounds the property is dead and there are very few fish to be found.
- I paid the extra for the beach front and could have saved a lot of $$ by booking the lagoon front which had a comparable view and more privacy because you don't get the rest of the property coming and sitting directly in front of your bungalow.
-The nickle and diming is ridiculous. You had to pay for everything from use of the safe to phone calls if you wanted to book with a vendor that wasn't on the list that they would agree to call to. (To book a spa day I actually had to pay for a bike rental to get over to the hotel with the Spa to make that booking after I was told that they would call but I would have to pay for the phone call)
- The man who was working the front desk was not helpful at all when it came to booking excursions. He actually had to make multiple phone calls when we booked our ATV excursion because he forgot to ask what time they were going to pick us up.
- The restaurant is overpriced and really not that great. We ate there once for dinner and once for breakfast and that was enough.
-We didn't have hot water for our last 2 days there. We were never compensated for this and were barely apologized to for it.
-When we did have hot water, the shower was disgusting. Ants everywhere --- did not feel clean (my hope is that it was clean, but it was impossible for me to get over the ants)

The positives are the AC in the bungalow and the views from the dock are really impressive. If you do decide to stay here do NOT waste your $$ on the beach bungalow and go for the lagoon bungalow. I will say, if you are on a buget it's a good deal.

“We are saddened in that we could not make your stay here at the HOTEL KAVEKA a memorable vacation, as we relentlessly try our very hardest to accommodate and enhance our guests to experience the real and authentic Polynesian hospitality for a reasonable price.

I am trying to understand where you are coming from and how you can state such nonsense ‘that the snorkeling is depressing, as the coral that surrounds the property is dead ???? And furthermore there are very few fish ???? This contradicts many of the previous TRIPADVISOR reviews where the hotel KAVEKA is highly praised by many guests, and that there is an abundance beautiful lagoon fish, starfish, turtles, ray fish, octopus, and even reef sharks come by early in the morning that you can admire during your leisure time in our over water restaurant and terrace.

Concerning your comment that we are ‘nickle and diming’ and insinuating we are ‘charging extra for everything’, is actually illogical, because we are persistently trying to keep our accommodation rates as affordable as possible for our valued guests, and by charging a minimum fee for optional services such as 500 CFP or 6$oo to launder your beach towel enables us to in-return offer the very best and lowest rates for accommodations.

Whether you are staying here at the HOTEL KAVEKA or any of the three, four and five star hotels, you will be charged for making telephone calls, you will be charged for bicycles rentals, rental scooters and car hires, you will be charged when sending a fax, you will be charged for the rental kayaks, you will be charged for your personal laundry, you will be charged to use our business center, and our conference room.

Another example is the air-conditioning - We are one of the few 2 star hotels on Moorea offering air-conditioning, and our lead in price category the ‘lanai bungalow’ offers this as an option (with or without A/C) and by doing so, we can once again offer the competitive rates that we do.

By charging the consumer who actually uses the many extra services, allows us to offer the very best rates on accommodations.

In other words, the user pays, or you don’t consume you don’t pay.

To summarize: The hotel KAVEKA is a two star property and we try our hardest everyday to improve our family operated hotel, by offering nice clean accommodations at reasonable rates so that our valued guests can continue to return and visit with us.

I enjoyed this stay- we were in a wee bungalow just steps away from the lagoon. The snorkelling is very average compared to other islands in French Polynesia and there are leave-things from the trees floating in the water everywhere which doesn't make for the most pleasant swimming, but lovely and refreshing however. The location is okay... In order to get anywhere you have to walk for ages. There is a supermarket which was about 20-30 mins away which wasn't too bad.
For what you pay I think you don't get enough- they charged more for internet and more for bikes and more for hiring snorkels... For the price you paid and for what you got, I think this should have been included. Big geckos would always come into the room and the roosters were a pain all hours of night/morning.
Clean and comfortable rooms made for a pleasant stay and the host was lovely dropping us to the airport too :)

We had a family bungalow overlooking the sea and it was magical. The snorkeling was amazing and the sunset even better, but if you are looking for a big sandy beach then this is not the place. The room was lovely, clean and tidy and of good size with a double for us and singles for the kids and it was fun eating overlooking the water with all the fish swimming about. We thought that the dinner food was ok, but not stunning and the breakfast buffet very complete, but not so good if in a hurry - or perhaps we just hit a bad time!
For Moorea / Tahiti, the price was very reasonable and for my money Moorea is a much better option than Tahiti itself which is overpriced
The bus from the ferry stops right outside the hotel.

Room Tip: The beach front rooms are a bit more, but worth it if you enjoy watching the sun setting from the ve...

We just got back from a 7-night stay at the Hotel Kaveka on Cook's Bay on Moorea in Tahiti. We chose one of the beach front bungalows and reserved it for a very reasonable price. We knew it would be beautiful from having visited the area 20 years ago on our honeymoon, but the location, the view and the snorkeling right on property blew us away! The bungalow was lovely and the sunset views from our patio were as close to paradise as we are likely to get this side of heaven. The food at the onsite restaurant was good (great deal with the meal plan!), especially the curried shrimp--very like Thai yellow curry, and the steak was surprisingly good.

Manager Tim and owner Greg were delightfully helpful and a joy to spend time with. And Tim makes a mean omelet!

The only downsides were lukewarm water in the shower and the occasional cockroach, but who would complain given all the upsides and the great price?

Room Tip: Definitely ask for bungalow 302 (301 is a close second), which is right on the small sandy beach and...

Room was nice and was what we needed.

Best swimming and snorkelling spot we found, with an awesome pier to jump off or watch the sunset.

Don't expect a cheap holiday in Moorea as every thing costs a lot. We stayed 8 nights and it was a little to long but other than that it was great!
