“Good location.. otherwise terrible”
Reviewed 2 October 2012

We thought we'd get one of the higher priced (better?) rooms. The bathroom was a building site with existing features either not functioning or falling off. For example, there was no functioning shower. The mattress was warped and very uncomfortabe and the bed sheets stank. We complained but were told we could not be moved. We suffered the night, had rotten fruit for breakfast and checked out in the morning. It pretty much ruined the weekend for us. We chose the hotel because of the location and the small parking area but it was a terrible expensive mistake. I would recommend sleeping on the street before this hotel.

Room Tip: We did not find a good room

we were at the third floor and and had an excellent room and view. (no:303) I strongly advice you to book this room. The hotel has a small but secure parking place. Because of its perfect location whether you can walk through the lake or go inner part and visit shops etc. Breakfast was really poor. The Hotel has no elevator. I dont know other rooms but our room had a king size bed, a leather sitting area and a lake front balcony. Allthough it is written as the hotel has air condition our room had a ventilator

The Alexandrija is on the water near the old town, easily accessible by car and good for walking to the sights. Some of the most interesting churches are minutes way and so are various restaurants.

The rooms are modern, large and some have a lake view. Good three-star standards. Breakfast is good and, like it often is in Macedonia, with fresh ingredients. The staff are quite friendly.

The main drawback of the hotel is that it can be noisy outside and that the curtains do not darken the room entirely, so it's not for light sleepers. Also, there is no writing desk in the room and no elevator.

However, despite these minor complaints, this hotel is still significantly better than the larger hotels further down the lake. I'd say it's a good choice for a few days' sightseeing.

Although the rooms may not be 4 star, the location and the staff make up for it. The hotel is right on the lake and views from your balcony are great. Being right in the heart of the old town you can walk to all major sights. There are also plenty of nearby choices regarding eating and drinking. I'm not sure one could do much better while staying in Ohrid.

Just imagine, stayed in a 4 stars Hotel, in a spacious double bedded room with a balcony, with full view of the lovely Lake and snowy mountain beyond. The hotel is right on the lakefront, and only 2 minutes walking distance to the city centre and the shopping streets. yet it is in a quiet area, at night all you hear is the soft waves of the lake. And the rate include brakfast and free WiFi access. how much you think it will cost?
The cost is 40 euro per night. The hotel is Hotel Alekandija, right in the centre of Lake Ohrid, Macedonia.
Lake Ohrid is the most beautiful lake in Eastern Europe, one of the oldest and deepest, and the blue color glittered in the sunlight is just magical. It is full of history and it is an UNESCO site.
A hotel like that in Switzerland, Italy or Slovenia, and offer the similiar services, will cost you 200 Euro and up. And in Aleksandrija, a new hotel with 20 rooms, offer supreb service, the place is well kept, the restaurant handsome and serve good food. And the small cafe on the lakeside offer lovely views. The hotel is safe, i did not lost anything, the bathroom are wll equipped and work well, in in the chilly autumn light, the central heating is comfortable.
The manager, Costa, speak good english and very helpful with information.
I had a wonderful time I do not want to leave.
Lake Ohrid is the best kept secert in Europe, but not for long. Very soon it will be a leading tourist distination like Lake Bled and Dubrovnik. Go there soon before everything changes forever.

This hotel is not a 4 star hotel. My husband and I stayed at this place while visiting Macedonia. We were planing to stay at Vila Sofia but they did not have any rooms. Never believe the Aleksandrija’s employees. They tell you that this place is one of the best in Ohrid, but be careful. The shower and the bathroom were moldy. nIt smelled disgusting. I went through couple of rooms and they were both the same. The shower flow control head broke while I was taking a shower because it was old and rusted. The heating in the room was not working. We got so cold while waiting for the room to get warm. It took forever. The balcony’s top had tons of bird settlers that they never cleaned. The place is loud and next to the street so you hear everything from the street noise and the lobby. They offered us breakfast but we didn’t feel like eating. The food seemed old and dry. They gave us some sugary cookies that were disgusting. The internet connection was weak and there was no way to get online at all. When I called the reception desk they told me that the whole town experiences the same problem. I did not believed him at all. My husband and I did not have so much time so we decided to stay in this place. We assumed that most of the hotels in Ohrid look the same. There is no business competition in this country so their 4 star hotels are equivalent to the 2 star western countries hotels. A 5 star hotel does not exist so do not expect to much.
