“Absolutely wonderful!”
Reviewed 13 July 2012 via mobile

I stayed here for 6 nights with my two teenage daughters. We were fortunate to have the suite with the terrace overlooking St Sophia. It was marvelous! The staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were made to order and delicious! It was great to have air conditioning and we also appreciated the range of TV stations for the hot afternoons spent lazing around after active mornings and before our evenings out. The villa is located centrally, within easy walking distance of the main part of town. Everything is fantastic!

As others have said, the location is good, close to the shore and restaurants, and removed from the bigger hotels on the east side of town. However, I think it makes a big difference which room you get. My single was very small, with no view. The head end of the bed sagged so much that I slept the other way round. The bathroom had a fancy shower, but the water temperature fluctuated unpredictably.

On the other hand, it was cheap.

Enjoyed our stay immensely a very well located hotel with well appointed rooms.
Our room was a suite at the front and with a balcony.
We over looked the old St Sofija church and square and had views of the lake.
Breakfasts were very good. A fruit basket was delivered to our room daily.
Staff very helpful and polite.

Room Tip: Choose the front room on the second floor if you want a balcony with a view of the lake.

I loved our stay at Vila Sveti Sofija. Location is perfect, just by Sveti Sofija - in fact on our second day we had breakfast on the little terrace outside with a beautiful view of the church.
Here you are right in the middle of the old city, within very short walking distance of any sites in Ohrid. The port is less the 5 minutes walk.
Breakfast was prepared to order. I had an omelette with yellow and white Macedonian cheeses and tomato and it was one of the best I have ever eaten. The coffee is freshly made and good and it all comes with delicious toasted bread.
The room was lovely with a really high tech shower (lots of handles)
Reception was really helpful and kind - upon leaving we asked whether the bus timetable for Skopje we had was correct, and the gentleman went a step further and phoned them - that was really lucky because he found out that the bus we wanted to get was already fully booked (it was sunday night and a lot of locals were travelling back to Skopje) and he told us where to go in town (a kiosk after the second berrier after the port) to book the tickets back (very good system by the way with pre-allocated seats). We rushed there immediately and thanks to him we managed to get tickets for the 7pm bus.
(we had not thought of pre-booking because the bus we got from Tirana only had like 10 people on it)
The hotel also has a lovely and formal-looking restaurant on the first floor. Sadly we didnt get to eat there because we wanted to explore - but they have live music on Saturday night and dancing (a lot of places in Ohrid do)

The hotel is a very old building (without a lift and all guest rooms are on the second floor) opposite the Church of St Sofia in the middle of the old town two minutes walk from the lake, five minutes walk from the harbour and shopping area. From the time we arrived until we left there was no hot water as they were working on the solar heating system but hopefully this will soon be rectified. We were asked what we would like for breakfast each day from cereal to fruit, eggs, bacon, omlette, orange juice, coffee etc they would provide almost anything cooked to order. The food we had was very good and plentiful. The small road that goes beside the hotel leads to the harbour a lovely walk with lots of bars and restuarants. The road in the opposite direction uphill leads to the amphitheatre and castle, there is a circular walk from there to two more old churches and back along the shoreline where there are restuarants with shingle beaches, sun loungers and lovely views of the lake and mountains some of which had snow on.
