“Excellent hotel made great by its staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014

Finding the Villa St. Sofija with a GPS is a nightmare. Once you finally find the place, you need to hope that their one parking space is free (it was for us). From there on in, the place is great. It was a private home until a couple of decades ago when it was remade into a hotel. There are no lifts (get used to it) and it's not right on the lake...but it's very close. When we arrived, Zoran greeted us and grabbed our suitcases, which he then lugged up to our "apartment" (separate sitting room) on the second floor (3rd floor in America). Both he and Goce on the earlier shift are GREAT. They make this very nice hotel GREAT. They didn't seem bothered by our questions and went out of their way to make sure that we got what we felt we needed (we didn't ask for anything TOO extravagant). Even the bed linens just smelled fresh...never noticed that in any hotel before.....

Service and location are the main attraction of this well-situated gem. There is one parking spot just behind the hotel. Ask the staff to save it for you when you reserve your room. The folks at the front desk are really quite special. All I can say is, "service with a smile". The rooms are spacious and relatively comfortable, if only just a bit dated. Situated in the old part of the town right next to it's namesake, Sveti Sofija, the hotel is quiet, charming, and old fashioned.

From here, you can explore the old city by foot with a stroll by the lakefront, or a hike up to the fortress. Restaurants and cafes are just steps away.

Breakfast, which was included in the room price, was substantial. Good coffee, omelettes chock full of veggies, and of course, service with a smile.

We had a great time in Ohrid thanks to this hotel. The hotel is brilliantly situated, about 5 minutes walk from the center. The team was friendly and helpful and the rooms and hotel were spotless. Very relaxing and convenient - definitely recommended!

Room Tip: Deluxe suite 201 room with balcony.

I spent a grand total of 30 seconds researching this booking and must say it was FANTASTIC! My partner and I drove down from Skopje to Ohrid for a few nights and stayed here and had a wonderful time. The wait staff was incredible and very friendly. We had a fantastic room with a beautiful view and wonderful sleigh couches to rest on. For breakfast we were both surprised to be greeted by a staff member who asked us what we wanted for breakfast. Shortly after our breakfast was presented just as we ordered. We were both surprised by this service since we would have been content with a breakfast buffet. The setting is very close to the too the top restaurants in Ohrid and it was a pleasure to stay there.

I was feeling very privileged to have the opportunity to stay in this beautiful hotel. Ohrid old town itself in spring is magical! I love Ohrid very much when it's so quiet.
Nikola offered me an upgrade to a bigger room. The room was magnificent, the interiors, the carpets, the chandeliers lighting and the furniture are so classically beautiful. The bathroom amenities are first class. The breakfast was top-notch!
I would definitely stay at this hotel anytime when I come to visit Ohrid again!

We loved staying at this charming hotel. The large family room was beautifully appointed and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking is a little tricky which has to be along the narrow lanes but the reception staff helped with finding a spot.
